Of Resolvations and New Beginnings
Shivaay was out of his chair in a second, and I, frozen for a few moments at what I had just witnessed, soon followed him. He stalked over to Tia and her...lover, I presume, in long strides, and I jogged to keep up. They still hadn't seen us, and it was only when Shivaay and I stood right in front of them that they looked up. As soon as Tia realized what Shivaay and I may have witnessed, her eyes grew wide as saucers, and she gulped visibly. I crossed my arms and only stared, deciding to let my man do the confronting because this was, technically, his matter.
"Care to explain what's going on? Shivaay started, cocking an immaculate eyebrow. Tia shot a glance at Robin- if that was his name- before turning back to us. Her face was completely white in fear, and I almost felt bad for the cheapdi. I would never want to be in a position where I was caught red-handed by someone like Shivaay.
"Shivaay baby, woh main, I just- Robin...
I tried not to snicker seeing her so shaken up. She clasped Robin's hand tightly, as if for assurance, and that told me that whatever the two had between them was probably quite serious.
Seeing as Tia was far from answering, Shivaay now turned to Robin. The man looked unnerved, and maybe even slightly happy? There was a certain emotion on his face, like he was relieved, which was saying a lot because his face was usually so impassive.
"Would you care to tell me what's going on, Robin? Shivaay asked, crossing his arms and tapping one foot impatiently. These two were just standing dumbstruck and it was starting to get on my nerves. I was hoping that if everything gets solved quickly, Shivaay and I could carry on with our date! But yes, I know. That was too much to ask for. I wasn't complaining, though. In fact, I was doing some weird dance moves in my head right now because I had finally, finally, managed to expose the cheapdi. Three cheers for Annika!
"Shivaay, the thing is, It was Robin who started, ignoring Tia's wide eyes indicating for him to not reveal anything probably, "I'm not Tia's brother.
"Yeah well, we figured that much out, Shivaay scoffed. I was surprised when he said we' because I'd thought he had forgotten I was there. But clearly not, because he took one step back to stand right beside me, and gave me a short glance before turning back towards Robin.
"I think we should have this conversation while sitting, Robin suggested. Tia seemed like she was on the verge of crying now, and he put one arm around her shoulders consolingly. Shivaay rolled his eyes, no doubt irritated by all this melodrama.
"I suppose you have a lot of explaining to do, so let's sit, Shivaay said, a sarcastic tone to his voice. A table of four was arranged for us, the manager giving us confused glances no doubt curious about what was happening. When we were seated- me beside Shivaay and Tia and Robin opposite us- and Tia had already used up a lot many tissues to wipe away her tears, they started with their story. I have to be honest; I was enjoying this whole thing quite a bit. Shivaay however, was furious, with veins throbbing in his forehead.
Long story short, Tia narrated to us, in an apologetic tone, that this whole thing had been a well-thought-out plan by her mother, Mrs. Kapoor. Apparently a few years back they had gone bankrupt, all of their business ideas failing. On top of that, her father had taken huge amounts of loan, which he couldn't return and had thus fled away- where, neither Tia or her mother knew. That's when the older woman had come up with this plan, of making Tia marrying Shivaay and usurping their wealth afterwards. And Shivaay, being the naam, khoon and khandaan obsessed man that he was, hadn't bothered checking on their bank balance or anything as such, because he had thought their surname was proof enough of their honesty.
"I had already married Dushyant by eloping, Tia said in between sobs, revealing Robin's actual name. "But mom emotionally blackmailed me, said this is the least I could do for my mother. I had no option, Shivaay!
As sad as her story was, I, for one, wasn't going to label her as a victim. If a person is truly honest, nothing could ever force them to cheat on someone, in my opinion.
"You had no option? Shivaay scoffed, raising an eyebrow. He had been silent throughout, possibly wondering how he could have been so blind to the whole thing. "You could have told me, Tia. I trusted you! I didn't even believe Annika when she told me about you having some other man in your life, because I didn't think you were capable of doing something like this. Gosh, I've been so stupid! Shivaay put his head in his hands, and I would have consoled him but I didn't know what to say to someone whose life-long ideologies of blood and upbringing had just been shattered.
"I'm really sorry, Shivaay Tia said. She then turned to me, much to my surprise. "And Annika, I'm sorry about how I've behaved with you, too. You were always right, and deep down, I'm glad that you helped Shivaay find out the truth. At least now I won't have to keep up with this scam anymore. Saying so, she looked at Robin- oops, Dushyant- and smiled slightly. Her husband was the happiest, I could tell, to be finally done with this whole faade.
Shivaay, at this point, looked up.
"Don't think I'm going to let you guys off easily, He said, a determined look in his eyes. "You dared to mess with Shivaay Singh Oberoi's family, and you and your mother will face the consequences, Tia, He said. Tia looked scared at that.
"Shivaay please, I-
"Let's go, Annika, Shivaay didn't let her finish, and instead stood up, taking my hand and making me get up, too. I threw one last glance at Tia and Dushyant, who were staring at us warily, before following hastily behind Shivaay. The manager was about to say something to Shivaay, probably about the bill, but seeing the rage-filled look on his face, refrained and instead stood at a side as we passed by.
Shivaay's car was parked a little away from the restaurant, and as we reached, he got inside the driver's seat and slammed the door shut. I scowled, but made my way to the passenger's seat. He didn't start the car, but just sat there in silence, looking the other way.
"Shivaay, are you okay? I asked him after a while, my voice coming out as a whisper. He didn't respond, and I kept a hand on his shoulder.
"Shivaay? I called out again, and this time, he caught me by surprise by turning towards me and engulfing me in a hug. I was shocked, to say the least, with his arms around my shoulders and his strong, manly scent making me weak.
"I'm so sorry, He breathed into my hair. "For not trusting you when you told me the truth.
I smiled at that. Honestly, I didn't blame him. It was natural for him to trust someone who he had known for so many years, instead of someone he had only met a couple of months ago, regardless of what we had between us.
"It's alright, Shivaay, I told him, running a hand down his suit-clad back. "It's not your fault.
He remained silent, and when he finally pulled back, there was a slight smile on his face that made relief surge through me, because I knew he was okay.
"Thankyou so much, Annika, He said, looking deep into my eyes. I smirked.
"Well well, isn't this a surprise? Mr. Baggad Billa saying sorry and thank you, all in one night.
He laughed at that, and rolled his eyes, before starting the car.
"Well I guess you deserve it, for once, He said with a wink, as he drove out of the parking. I smacked his arm.
"What are you going to do about the Kapoors? I asked him, curious. The smirk on his face told me that he would surely do something that would make them regret.
"Not sure yet, but something that would make them curse the day they decided to mess with Shivaay Singh Oberoi.
I shook my head at his cockiness, and smiled fondly. We receded into silence, and I stared out of the window. It was unbelievable, really, that for once, things in my life had turned out exactly like I had wanted it to. I was immensely thankful.
"Annika? Shivaay's voice broke me out of my thoughts, and I turned towards him.
"Yeah?
"I'm sorry our date turned out like that, He apologized. I didn't tell him, of course, that I was happy it had turned out like that, because it only made future dates more possible.
"It's alright, Shivaay. I'm just glad you found out about that cheapdi. I said. He laughed at my use of word.
"But still, I don't want you to think that dates with Shivaay Singh Oberoi are anything less than extraordinary, He said with a tadi laced voice. "So how about I take you out again this weekend, after everything is solved, to make up for tonight?
My heart was literally doing somersaults and as much as I hated this filmy reaction from me, I couldn't help but blush.
"If you want to go on a date with me again, Billuji, you can just ask directly, I joked, and to my pleasant surprise, his cheeks turned pink, too. It was adorable.
"Yeah, well. So will you go?
I nodded, and he gave a wide grin, continuing with his driving. When we reached my home, we sat there for a while, not moving.
"I think I should leave now, I finally said, and he nodded. He seemed like he was in deep contemplation, like in dilemma about doing or not doing something. I was going to get out of the car, having given up on receiving any good night wish, when he called me back. I turned around, and was rewarded with his lips against my cheek, lingering there for a while before he pulled back. I know I looked comical then, my eyes wide and mouth hanging open, and he lightly chuckled.
"Good night, He whispered in his husky voice, and I left without answering, still in major shock.
