Chapter Two : The Return of Shivaay Singh Oberoi

5 Years Later...

It's been Five years since that night in the garden. Everything is changed and its going to change again today because he is coming back. Shivaay who left for abroad to study is coming back today. Things aren't as he left them. He didn't want to leave his brothers behind but he thought - it will only be for five years and then they will never be apart. This thought had motivated him to keep doing what he was doing.

His brothers, omkara and rudra have changed too. After shivaay, a year later Omkara also left for his art course in London and he stayed with shivaay. It wasn't long before Omkara returned; his soft heart hardened more when he saw his father. Now his only mission was to rebel against everything Mr Tej Singh Oberoi said. Everything else was still the same.

There was so much hustle bustle in oberoi mansion that one couldn't talk properly without shouting. Pinky was as usual going overboard with the preparations because her son was coming home.

"O my mata! What you doing? My son is coming homes today, after five years, everything should be perfect." Pinky scolds the maid. " relax pinky, everything is according to your wishes" jhanvi assures pinky and they together do the preperations.

Dadi was seeing this and thought "God, please keep your blessings on my family always. Now, shivaay is coming back and I know he will do everything to keep this family intact."

Things have gotten worse now. Tej and jhanvi don't talk at all, jhanvi keeps drinking and pinky and jhanvi keep fighting occasionally. Omkara is always so withdrawn in tej's presence. Dadi's only hope is shivaay, that once he comes back everything will be fine. In childhood also, he was always the one to resolve any fights or problems.

Omkara , Priyanka and Rudra were heading towards the airport to receive Shivaay.

"yes Mr Batra, I am on my way to Mumbai. Of course the deal is good and I'm sure you are ready for the presentation." And shivaay cuts the call.

Shivaay was a changed man now, he wasn't as sweet as his family remembered him. Somewhere inside that young shivaay still existed but his dreams were gone. He turned into a stonehearted man because in business emotions were unnecessary.

When the plane lands, shivaay collects his luggage moves towards the exit where his brothers and sister were waiting for him. They hug and have an Obro Moment and head home where everyone was waiting for them .

Shivaay was quiet throughout the journey. Since the landing he was feeling weird, like something was missing, as if he was missing someone and the feeling only grew as the neared the Oberoi Mansion.

As soon as shivaay entered the Oberoi mansion he was enveloped in hugs and kisses from his mother and dadi. He took blessings from all the elders.

Tej singh oberoi was not happy. He wanted his son to study business so that he could take over the business and not shivaay but omkara was interested in ridiculous things such as art.

" Shivaay, its nice to see you son. Now that you are back , why don't you teach you brother om a few things about business so that he can think over my advice to him." As soon as tej finished omkara started to leave but shivaay puts a hand on his shoulder and stops him.

" Bade papa, omkara has a right to choose his career and its fine if he chooses art and not your business. I am here to look after it."

Omkara comes forward " but you won't understand this. You only think about yourself and the rest of the world can go to hell. Isn't it? I never wanted to be in business so shivaay had to sacrifice his dream so that I can live mine. Shivaay..." before omkara could finish tej spoke up " what dreams shivaay? What is he talking about?"

"nothing bade papa, my dreams don't matter now. I chose this because I understood long ago that no one cares about your feelings and good intentions, to do something you need money and power and also people now a days understand the language of business more than anything else." shivaay stops him " Bade papa, please, now that I am back you can talk about business with me but let him do what he wants." Saying this shivaay turns and looks at omkara and after a few seconds, hugs him. " don't do this om you know no one is going to force you. Yeah?"

After the serious moments, rudra breaks the tension with his lame jokes and everything is fine once again. They were talking , laughing and having fun whereas shivaay was still feeling uneasy. He excuses himself and leaves.

Shivaay keeps walking and reaches the garden. it's still the same' he thought. He walked further and stopped when he was almost there, where he last saw her. Yes, he still remembered her, how could he forget. Shivaay closed his eyes and saw her face, she was beautiful, her face glowing in the moonlight and hair flying gently with the breeze. He opened his eyes and she disappeared.

" bhaiya? Lunch is ready, come." His sister's voice startled him and the magic of the place which was surrounding him, vanished.

Later that night shivaay couldn't sleep, he was restless. He threw away the sheets covering him and went out to the garden. The moon was beautiful and a gentle wind was blowing, and he wondered if she ever thought about him and looked at the moon.

When I was young I thought my life was perfect but now I realise how wrong I was. I had everything, friends, family and something special but that one fateful night and everything was gone, no moon could bring light in my dark world. First, my parents died then he left and I found out that the people I loved more than my life - my parents- were not my family, they didn't give me birth. It was a shock to my system and I had no one to save me from this dark and cruel world. Time passed away and life moved on, a family adopted me and I thought maybe now it was going to be okay but it wasn't. those people didn't like me, not at all. I was just dirt in their eyes, a girl who would look after their place when they went on family holiday or serve their guests when they invited people to their home. They did provide me with education and I was thankful for that, atleast. The husband-wife were fine, the worse was the man's sister, she hated my guts and believe me, the feelings were mutual.

Many nights I stayed awake crying and wondered how it would be if prinku's dadi had took me in but it was my fault, I refused to have her spend money on me but that wasn't even the issue. The thing was that I couldn't stay with them, I didn't belong In their world and I couldn't live their everyday feeling knowing that he was gone and wasn't coming back soon. I wasn't the one to wallow in self-pity for long but my life was pitiful. The only ray of light I had was my brother sahil, the only child of the family, he loved me and I loved and that was enough , for now.

Even after five years, I was still in contact with prinku. She was my only friend. Prinku had many times invited me to her place but I never went, I always had an excuse and she had caught on , I think. I didn't want to go and remember that night, it just wouldn't feel right if he wasn't there. Now I am studying event management and as soon I finish, I'll be out of here. Sitting by the window I stared the moon and shivered, it felt different, like something had changed , like someone was watching me. I laughed at the absurdity of the thought, how could someone be looking at me from the moon.

Next morning

Shivaay didn't get much sleep last night and he would surely won't get any tonight if he didn't satisfy his curiosity. Shivaay thought of the only one who could give him serious answers, dadi.

Dadi was in the hall reading the newspaper and smiled when she saw her grandson, shivaay.

Shivaay bent down to touch her feet and take her blessing. "billu, are you not going to your office?" dadi asked. "I am , I just wanted to talk to you about something before leaving"

"dadi what happened to... her?" shivaay asked hesitantly. Dadi furrowed her eyebrows "who are you talking about billu?" dadi asked as if she didn't really know who he was talking about.

" i... dadi.." before he could finish someone else filled in for him "anika.. who else?" It was rudra who spoke with a mischievous smile on his face. "right bhaiya?" and they laughed

"shut up rudra, I am leaving for office dadi see you in the evening" and shivaay stood up from besides dadi and started to leave.

"wait shivaay" omkara called out to him. Shivaay turned and saw om coming towards him while he saw dadi and rudra laughing in the background, he rolled his eyes at them and focused on om. When om reached shivaay, he just smiled and whispered something in his ear and then backed away. Shivaay stood frozen, confused then turned around to leave, om had told him her address. He heard them laughing and stopped. Without turning to look at them m, he said " I am going to the office and not to see her. I don't want to see her" and he started walking again. Their laughter was mocking him and he heard om yell "sure you don't". shivaay shook his head and left.

Even though he said he wasn't going to see her, he still took a detour to her place, thanks to om, he knew where she lived. He stopped the car and looked towards the balcony of her home. His heartbeat increased when he saw a woman drying her long hair. He couldn't see her face as much as he tried.

His phone rang and he picked it up not moving his eyes from her. "yes, I am on my way" he cut the call and left. Disappointed that he couldn't see her face but hopeful that this meant he will have to come here again.

He again dialled a number "I want to know everything about this girl..." and he told his trustful employee, Singh about the woman he needed to know about.

Anika was on the balcony, drying her hair when she felt like someone was watching her. She turned to look and saw a car just turning around the corner and disappearing. She shrugged and went inside after putting the towel to dry.

She had so much work to do. In the morning she got an unexpected call from Mrs. Kalyani Oberoi aka dadi.

Dadi had requested her to come home because she wanted her to organise their New Year party. That's right, a New Year party as New Year was tomorrow. She had tried to refuse but dadi was adamant that she wanted her to do it. Ultimately anika had to agree this time, after all, how can she refuse the sweet old lady?

Anika got ready and left for the oberoi mansion. As she neared the place her heart started beating fast. She was so nervous but putting it aside she tried to calm down "relax anika, it's only dadi. You know her, nothing is going to happen. It is just a party, you do your work and then get out of there."

Anika was feeling a swarm of butterflies fluttering in her stomach. Anika took a step inside and was once again stunned to see the big house. She couldn't spot dadi and stood awkwardly when priyanka saw her. "anika? Thankyou for coming. Dadi is going to be so happy" priyanka hugged her and the held her had to lead her towards dadi.

When dadi saw her , she got misty-eyed. Dadi quickly hugged anika " anika I am so happy you came. Oh my god, you have grown up to be such a beautiful woman, I am so proud of you." Anika couldn't really say anything, she felt so loved that she couldn't find any words other than a I missed you'.

Dadi told anika what she had to do. The theme of the party was masquerade and she had to at least manage for 50 people, all of high social status.

Anika got busy in making the preparations and guiding the servants to do the decorations properly. Anika was putting up the fairy lights when someone tapped her shoulder. She turned to see omkara and smiled. "hi om , how are you" "I am good anika, how have you been?"

"I have been... ok, I guess" she replied " hey , if you ever have some problem you can always tell me and priyanka, we are there for you"

Anika was touched by his concern " I know, thank you".

"so, you are the event planner dadi hired?" he asked "yes, it's me" anika subconsciously looked towards shivaay's room, this was happening since she came here and om smiled when he saw this.

" who are you looking for?" om asked amused, he always knew that his brother and anika had something between them which had no name but it was special. "he is back you know?" om said suddenly which broke anika's trance. "huh?" she asked confused. "shivaay is home" hearing this anika's hear beat sky rocketed. She started looking around " he's not here right now" omkara was smiling which irked anika, om had always been her good friend after prinku but he had an habbit of always being right, a bad habbit, which irritated her. "I wasn't looking for him" she said and pretended to work. "of course" omkara laughed " I am serious, I don't wanna see him and I am definitely not looking for him" she said trying to make om believe that. Omkara scoffed "sure, I believe you anika" and omkara turned and left her to her thoughts. She closed her eyes and sighed "oh my god! Help me".
