3.6 PART H: LIFE AND DEATH [SHIVAAY]
Tanha adhoora sa, Khaamosh lamha sa,
Thehra hua hai dil yahan,
Mehsoos kar le tu, Hai jazbaat ki khushbu,
Khud se karun kya main bayaan,
Dard hai jo halka sa, Khaab khaab chalka sa,
Tu muskuaye har jagah
O Jaana
Khoya khoya rehta hai
Dil tadap ke kehta hai
Tu hai mere jeene ki wajah
O Jaana
- O Jaana, Ishqbaaaz

He could see her breaking in front of him. And just like that, the image of her breaking down and falling towards him on the day of the wedding played in his mind and he felt as if his heart would give up in that moment.
How did her tears bring him to his knees? Why didn't she know that seeing her break in front of him was more painful then a thousand deaths?
He was on his knees, trying to hold her shoulders... weakly.
How do you even begin to apologize for something like this?
Her tears pierced him in ways that he couldn't possibly put in words. They haunted him... even when he had been destroying the image of himself in her eyes during the wedding... it was inexplicable... this magnetic pull that he felt towards her... the anguish that burnt everything inside him when he felt the tears in her eyes...
Shakily... he pleaded her to understand what he couldn't explain in words.
She would know, wouldn't she?
Of course she would... she was Annika... she understood him in ways that confounded him... but she did...didn't she?
"Ann-"
She looked up at his voice and the broken hollow look in her beautiful cocoa brown orbs hit him so hard that he had to take a step back.
"It's the Naam, Paisa...Khandaan...isn't it?
Her words rang in his ears.
"It's the Naam, Paisa...Khandaan...isn't it?
He was hypnotized.
The bitterness of the truth in her words made his insides churn... but he was imprisoned by the broken look in her eyes.
"It's the Naam, Paisa...Khandaan...isn't it?
"Daksh has it - all of it - the Naam Paisa..Khandaan... so how could he lie?"
Her bitter chuckle filled the room but she couldn't mask her pain.
He had hurt her.
The ache in his chest was throbbing.
The image of the knife almost touching her skin flashed in his mind... and he felt his breath turn shallower just at the thought and he weakly rubbed the spot over his chest lightly.
"It's always going to be like this, isn't it?"
He heard the whisper even through her muffled tears.
NO
This wasn't true... this... this wasn't true..
She had to know
"Ann- Annika..."
He cupped her face gently... forcing her to meet his eyes.
She had to know this
"I am sorry... An- Annika... I - yeh phir kabhi nahi hoga"
"This will never happen again... This... me not believing you... this... this will never happen again."
He was shaking his head as he willed her to read everything that he couldn't put in words.
The unsaid promise rang deep within him.
She had to know
He saw her eyes flicker close in resignation and he knew that in spite it all... despite herself even... she had again put him above all of it.
The chords in his chest pulled to her shaky breaths and he selfishly took in the familiar feel of her in his arms as she leaned her head into his chest.
She had understood him... the unsaid... the unforgivable... she had understood... she had forgiven...again.
Like an addict who had been deprived of his drug for a hauntingly long time, he took in the soft honey vanilla smell of her hair and for the first time in the week he felt the knots inside him loosen.
He had a long way to go... but as long as she was here... he would walk the ends of the world
"I am sorry... I am so - "
He pulled back slightly to look at her face. His hands were slowly rubbing small circles on her face... gently rubbing her tears away.
"Shivaay - "
She started softly and again... the sound of his name on her lips pulled deeply at something deep within him... unfamiliar... this still confounded him.
He shook his head... she didn't need to say it.
He knew.
He had a long way to go... but he would walk it all. On a path of burning charcoal if he had to... for her. A thousand times over... for her.
A small movement from behind her caught his attention and before he could fully comprehend it...he saw it.
Daksh had gotten to his feet and had been pointing a gun at her back.
Daksh had gotten to his feet and had been pointing a gun at her back
"ANNIKA-"
He could feel the desperation in his own voice...but he couldn't have cared if he had lost his voice then.
The world faded away as he saw him pull the trigger.
As if in slow motion...in an almost ironical satire sort of anticlimactic way...no fireworks...no sound... just the small movement and he saw his shoulder move with the effort.
And he wouldn't have been able to tell you even if he wanted to...what made him push himself forward in that millisecond...probably only that it was instinctive.
NO
He felt the small hit and push of the bullet as it embraced him but his focus was still on her face... her beautiful face.
The whiff of honey and vanilla fanned him as he struggled to keep his balance.
NO
"Open.. open your eyes...Ann... Annika-"
He could barely whisper.
He was still cowering over her... shakily... as if waiting for another...when he heard a loud scuffle and finally...his brother's voice as he hurried inside with the commissioner and his team.
Rudra was here
She wasn't in danger anymore
He focused on her again... her cocoa browns were still closed and a panic started filling him.
Had he been too late? He couldn't have been, had he?
He felt his energy snapping... his vision blurring as he struggled to keep breathing.
"Annika-"
It might have been seconds...but it felt like lifetimes...when she finally opened those magnetic cocoa honey brown eyes of her and stared up at him.
She was okay
She was okay... she would be okay.
And that was all that mattered.
The relief washed over him in waves as he finally let himself succumb to the physical pain inside him.
And it was her beautiful...magnetic cocoa honey orbs that he last saw as the blackness engulfed him.

Note: Hi guys, so this is the final part of this chapter...and as you all know this chapter had been a dedication to Innika and her beautiful OS: Sandcastles. I hope this chapter has lived up to your expectations... and I promise the next one (3 parts also) will be both unexpected as well as quick. Do let me know your thoughts and comments... and as always... both critiques as well as positives are very welcome! Also questions... if any?
Love,
Lily
