I'm giving you a small example here, I follow K-pop and recently a song was released in which a female idol was kissed forcefully to which she later consents and kisses back, there was so much much backlash for this scene that they had to cut it down... We girls should stop accepting even a single bad word against us let alone physical or emotional violence. I say this isn't feminism, its rather trying and telling to be humans and all it needs is a bit humanity to understand others.

I'm a Karate black belt holder and so not at all meek/tender, I keep thinking "Are girls really so weak that they can't punch back!!" whenever I watch these type of shows or maybe its the society which made girls in that way. In reality most girls do't even realise an abuse unless it crosses all the limits. I hope this changes and TV being a mass communication medium definitely holds this responsibility.

That's awesome that people's reaction made a difference!! If only that would happen in Desi culture!
Totally agree with you. Apparently demanding a woman be treated like a human is being a "feminazi" LOL.
Dang girl! That's amazing! A black belt is no joke! I've taken some self defense training myself and I always think the exact same thing when girls are portrayed as helpless.
I hope change comes too, and soon!

That scene where Shivay physically bullied Anika will be one of the lowest moments in the writing of this show. Him threatening her could have been shown in any number of ways. The fact that they showed him throwing her around, hauling her up by her hair, etc. is typical of a certain mentality that allows men to so easily resort to physical strength as a way of imposing their dominance on women they think of as their property-be it their wives, sisters or daughters.

And I am not a fan of 50,shades but still want to say one thing. There is a difference between physical.bullying and bondage. In the latter, I think both partners consent to it and have safe words and so on to stop themselves if either goes to a limit that the other finds uncomfortable. What we saw on screen was nothing of the sort and must not be read as such. The fact that the CVs made Shivay act that way is something for which I cannot forgive them.
And going through the posts, I am even more disappointed in Gul. To think that as a woman she has such an opinion of feminism and feminists is truly saddening.

I WISH she would read it, but even if she did she probably wouldn't change her ways. You know, because regressive storylines bring in more TRPs and fill her pocket.😡
Yeah, it was absolutely horrible and the ridiculous music in the background was NOT helping! If you're gonna show this on TV, at least emphasize how WRONG it is. Instead, the show decided to maintain that Shivaay is some sort of hero still (because caring for your family is so NOBLE even if you abuse and kidnap other commoners), glaze over his crimes, and have the family matriarch talk about tradition and holy matrimony or whatever.
THAT is an excellent point! Consent is so important and don't think people actually know how bondage is supposed to work.
I've lost all respect for Gul, though I had very little for her to begin with.

No matter how rich or handsome or famous (or all 3 combined) I would hate a man who treats any women like SSO did. I don't want anyone to be treated like Annika.

I am a feminist and am proud to be one

We need more people in the world like you! You go girl! Wear that feminism with pride!

coming to this PH and SP this is their routine way of showing men and women getting abused and there comes a explanation from Gul saying that Bad is the new good (yuck,YUCK,YUCK).I have seen their previous show and it had the same contents with people writing essays but again nothing changed and it has gone more bad.
All I would say is wait for the time that the same girl will turn into a mahaan and forgive him and have eye locks and romance him.Wearing jeans and off shoulder is not open minded ,thought process and taking bold steps is being open minded.

Thanks!
Lol I've gotten some shade on other threads but I honestly have no time to care for people's hypocrisy. If it brings them to this thread then maybe they'll learn a thing or two.
I feel physically sick when I see someone calling this abuse "sexy" or "so hot!". I remember seeing people saying the pool grab scene was hot too and that was very disturbing.
Yup, it's going to happen and from what I've heard it's already happening. The butchering of Annika's character has begun :(
@bolded: SPOT ON. I couldn't have said it better myself!

I am not really surprised seeing the romanticizing of yesterday's epi and previous one. People say they are not supporting the act but then . . . Whereis the place for but if you really disagree with the way he act? Then pages of justification that how he was in character and what do we expect! My favorite line is the scene was very hawwt, return of ML👏 so you see while many are like ohh it was inhuman at the end of day all are siding with character. This is where we as a viewers are going wrong. We have these double standards when serial air we have a view and then we change it. After a while all are forgiven cause 1) the couple is meant to be no point of discussion 2) soon we will get hawwt scene minus these physical assault so what the hell!

These justification that character is Grey that's why it's fine is such a BS. Let's cut down fancy words, shall we? Grey is someone who's willing to cross the line then come back. Black or villain has no line. White is saint. When I say line i think we all know what kind of barrier that is. Threatening to kill a kid, saying he can undress a girlr and stuff is way above the line. Now let's go back to Early ekta days. Remember the quintessential villain guy with smirk and hate and raping another character? Didn't we despise them? Wanted them to die or get punishment? why not now? Cause these shows or books are selling the same villain to us with senty(or not) back story, love/obsession for a girl and good looks. We are failing to see behind the glitter the same person is there. We don't see the heinous acts and justify it. That was character! What do you expect?!

All we can do is discuss these things but problem is the PH itself loves these things. Why won't they? She has backing from phans who shuts down every word of criticism by yelling 'Character!' 'Feminist!'🥱

You can see it . . . 70+ likes for a post glorifying how so in character the epi was, while these posts discussing the follies mostly taken over by stans

YES TO ALL OF THIS 👏👏👏

They have deliberately tried to show that he is doing this for his family, time and again juxtaposing their collective joy with his turbulent thoughts, and having him dance with them to emphasise the softness that is in him when it comes to them. And then the very prominently shown change when he takes off his headgear. Dadi's Billu to SSO. To keep them smiling, he is willing to do anything. As in, it excuses the atrocities he's inflicting on the girl. Because after all, it keeps the happiness intact on Dadi's face. Not to forget maintaining the khaandaan ki izzat in front of society and business rivals.

All those stylised actions in the scene when he corners her, don't in any way hide the sheer brutality of his actions. And then to have her sink in relief against him, seeking solace from the one who's toying with her, torturing her, was just shocking. Have the CVs been reading, when "Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind. Nor hath Love's mind of any judgement taste; Wings, and no eyes, figure unheedy haste." when they had Annika tell him at one point that he lost the plot upon reading Tia's little goodbye note?! To indicate she understands where he's coming from?! To already build up his redemption.

There's no denying there's evil in the world, it's this appalling attempt at justifying it that I have an issue with. It has as much to do with being humane as it does with feminism no?

I wholeheartedly agree!!!

It makes me sick! To think that women think it's okay, acceptable, even hot for a man to push them around is despicable. It reminds me of Trump's "grab'em by the pu**y comment" and how republican women defended him saying that women like being grabbed. It's horrible and scary.

See, we are not stupid. We know this is a fictional show, we know that Shivvay and annika will end up together, no matter if he redeems himself or not. The reason we are showing our disgust is because life imitates art and vice versa. If you show your lead actor doing such actions that means you are telling the world it's okay to do so to the girl that you love. That they will like it. Spoiler alert : We Don't!

And all of the women who are defending his actions right now, I don't know what they'll say if they actually meet a victim of abuse some day. "Hey, it was your fault? Why did you interfere? You should be in your lakshman rekha like a good little lady? It's your fault that he did what he did? You made him do it?"

It's pathetic, really.

Hats off to the both of you!! Really hit the nail on the head!
I actually hadn't even caught up to the shaadi episode and I'm glad I didn't. As soon as I read what was going to happen I was DONE. It was only when I came across the scenes on Instagram that I realized how horribly everything was presented and that's when I knew I had to say something!
@richa1792 the victim blaming by women is probably the most disgusting part of all. Basically saying "she asked for it". Absolutely shameful.

In another show, a husband molested his wife by tying her n undressing her while leaving cut marks on her body as he cut her clothes wid knife n bathed her forcibly but some viewers most probably girls supported him. Someone made a poll on whether they liked him tortured her wid some options in d poll. While d majority voted no some voted for d option yes cuz she provoked him(she always tries to kill him to revenge her family's murder by him). None of d people voting yes had d courage to say d same in comment. I only read written Update of 2days so I of dat show n glad I did not watched it. Cuz of 2days epi I decided not to watch dat show again cuz d hero is irredeemable no matter wat he does later to repent n cuz Ekta ruined d image of an historical leader who I don't think molested n tortured his wife like dis. At d end of d epi, d heroine's bhabhi tells her may be her husband started to like her(since he did not killed her husband who was heroine's brother). Sumthn is wrong wid Star Plus for glorifying such nonsense as romantic or steps of love. Here SSO is excuses due to ONS thing wen he cud have forcibly married her for making Richa run away even widout ONS thing. On Insta d people who r talking against crap shown by Gul r called as bashers n haters. If anyone speaks against wrong here then they r feminists n frminazis as if both d words r biggest gaalis.

Aw, honey, you just made my day! You are exactly the person I was waiting for, thank you so much for gracing this topic with your presence!

First of all, this "bashing" you speak of, is just you trying to victimize the abuser in this situation, something I am all too familiar with. Us "bashing" Shivaay, would actually have to involve us throwing insults at him. Criticism, is not the same as insults. And why shouldn't bash him, huh? What he did in that episode, was cruel and inhumane, us bashing him would be like a gift to him, because he deserves a lot worse.

Second of all, your use of the word "civil." The people within this discussion are being very civilized, I don't know what civilized is in your head, but it's not all rainbows and sunshine! Please explain to me what is it that you find so uncivil, about people defending women because of the way that they are being treated. We are defending ourselves without attacking this male lead of yours, what do you find so goddamn uncivil about that?

Thirdly, are you basically trying to justify that just because this is television and none of it is real, this sort of behavior is okay? It's not! Reel life applies to real life more than you realize, it has this influence, this impact... do you realize that there are young men and women watching this show, and thinking that this okay just because the audience is encouraging this sort of stuff to be portrayed on TV?

Finally, this forum encourages everyone here to share their opinions, no matter who may or may not disagree with it. Your topic was about how Shivaay and Anika's relationship is headed in this wonderful new direction, fine. Our topic here is about how wrong we think it was of Shivaay to treat Anika like that. Like it, don't like it, no here cares! You have no right to tell someone that they can't share their opinion, that is literally what the Internet is for. We have a right on this site to have a discussion about whatever topic we want, and you have no right to stop us from doing so. Thank you, and good night.

By the way, the fact that you managed to contradict yourself about 50 times throughout your entire post, amazes me to no end. I bow down to you! It takes a very special person to able to do this, so congratulations man! 👏

OH MAN this was a fascinating read! Thank you foreverlazy for responding so well (and for being civil lol).
That was honestly the most dizzying thing I've ever tried to comprehend. Stating facts and presenting the obvious is not "generalizing" and criticism is not "bashing". It amazes me how the defenders of this horrible scene continue to use "bashers" as some sort of smear label for every critic. Simple and honest criticism is not a personal attack (which is what, I'm assuming, "bashing" is).
In my original post, I did warn you that you were going to be presented with REALITY. If you can't handle it, fine, but don't act like everybody should be complicit with something so disgusting. And please, decide whether you're actually okay with something or not before being upset with the critics.
Finally, I wrote my post because of all of the support I saw for the scene. People left and right were calling it "hot" and wishing that they were in Annika's place. If people knew right from wrong, why would they support the "wrong" so enthusiastically?

UGH that is absolutely HORRIBLE!!! I don't know why people are so adamant about blaming the victim! If the genders had been switched in that situation I bet people would have hated it if the girl was the one undressing the man!
