Exactly. Abuse is not ok. Your post reminded me of an earlier episode where during a Tejvi confrontation , Tej had raised his hand on Jhanvi and Shivaay's reaction back then was in support of Jhanvi. Rage doesnt discount violence. There is ruthlessness and then there is sheer villainy. Sadly today Shivaay crossed an important line.

Whats worse is that because this is the definition of passionate romance on indian tv , we will soon see Anika falling in love and being the perfect tortured Biwi and Bahu.

As I said, even if Anika later on fights back, I don't see how Shivaay's character can be redeemed. He threw her around like a sack today. That is something that visually was so revolting to many of us.
I started to watch the show a little late in the day and so have missed the episode you refer to, but yes, Shivay has repeatedly been shown as speaking up for women's rights... but I guess that is all for show. He is someone who will not hesitate to physically bully a woman. I guess that is just the way he is but he needs to be taught what it is to be a gentleman rather than being a boor.

I know right?!
To a certain extent, Shivaay's a hypocrite.
For him, family rules the highest above all - and even though he says he considers Annika as family, I'm having serious doubts 😉
If it happened to Prinku, I don't think that poor, poor man would be alive to see the light of day!

Spot on. Couldn't have said it better myself. It;s disgusting what they are trying to show here. I think I am done with Ishqbaaz now because there is no way I can excuse this sort of abusive behaviour all in the name of "passion". The worst part is I don't think SSO understands what he has actually done.. I want him to imagine if this sort of thing happened to Prinku.. what would he do then??

Domestic violence is a fact and comes from this very mentality that it is somehow okay to raise your hand on your wife. It is not okay.

And I really think that this show has taken the name and the definition of 'khaandaani, khoon, naam' a little too far. His lineage, his global higher studies, and his life experiences all amount to absolutely nothing after today. Because believe me, if he was actually anything that he was or his family keep claiming he is - they should be ashamed today. Even in maddening all-consuming rage there is chivalry (and I don't mean that strictly because he is dealing with a woman here... but more generally towards another person).

Khaandani log aise nahi hote.

Just had the weirdest visual - imagine a royal family person behaving this way in today'/ that mes behind closed doors? One media leak and the entire family would be facing some extremely serious legal charges plus societal rejection.

I don't think it was meant to be romantic at all...
It was a scene of a humiliated man, who lost his marbles and lashed out at her. He's gone off the rails and behaved very badly. He will pay for it.

All his Khoon Khandaan Naam fixations was leading to this. I don't think it was meant to teach about love at all. Just that men are cruel sometimes, and women have to deal with people like this in their daily lives.

True story:

I knew a girl, homely but stinking rich, really sweet and nice person. Her parents arranged for her to get married to another business family's heir. The wedding of the year, finest bash to be seen in the community. Wow.

The next day, the groom sent her home because he thought she was too ugly under all the makeup, and couldn't imagine life with her. It ruined her. Men are awful also, not just romantic and gorgeous.

U've said it all 👏

Anger limited to throwing things around is okay.
Throwing any person around is NOT.
Being angry is okay.
Being angry and treating a person as an object is NOT.

Hope ppl realise this soon and can distinguish between a passionate hero and a repulsive one.🥱

You know what's funny?

I thought that Shivaay was one of Gul Khan's most decent heroes. I honestly feel like he pulled some Arnav Singh Raizada level shit today.

Yup, gotta take that one back now ;)

Exactly!
When they fall in love, everything just seems to be swept under the carpet and its so frustrating. It's such backdated thinking for men to still think that they have the right to abuse their wives because they are married.
After I told her about the episode, my sister was telling me about some bill that nearly got passed in Turkey and off the top of my head, they were trying to get something like this passed - If the rapist marries his victim, he automatically gets relieved of all rape charges.
And I honestly felt like throwing up. Thank god it didn't get passed!
But even the fact that something like this could even be considered makes me sick to my stomach.
More than anything, I wish television shows wouldn't promote this type of behaviour because it attempts to make it seem acceptable, and horrifically enough, romantic.

Awesome post. I agree to everything that you wrote here.

I have not watched any of the previous shows created by Gul so i am unaware as to how the dynamics between the leads were in those shows but today Shivaay disgusted me. Actually in all honesty , this disgust and intense dislike began straight after that Prinku-broken-engagement fiasco when Shivaay pushed Anika to the pillar and threw his phone viciously. I had stopped watching the show by then and hadnt been aware as to what the track was but that random scene made me stay.

I remember Anika flinching and being scared of Shivaay and then by the next few episodes , this was completely forgotten.

Even then this unnecessary violence and manhandling had weirded me out. So today when it has crossed all limits , i am truly speechless. What are we watching and more importantly what are we teaching young , impressionable teenagers?? Manhandling is romantic ? Pushing-shoving-pulling someone is passionate? Physically and verbally abusing someone is Tashan?

What makes this all even more terrible is that this is being made by a woman , written by a woman and sadly appreciated and fangirl-ed by women. Violence is not romantic. Abuse is not passion and threatening someone over their loved ones is not tashanbaazi and ishqbaazi.

Also before anyone pounces on me saying i am a prejudiced fan , i am straightaway admitting that yes Om is my favourite among the three Obbros. However , Shivaay was a close second but not after the pillar scene. So please no bashing.

You should definitely not be bashed, you have a completely legitimate point!

I love Shivaay too, but today, I was repulsed by his character.

About the women producing this show, I completely agree. But then again, Gul Khan has some really intense fascination with broken, abused female leads and it truly reflects on her as a person.
What annoys me the most though, is that she tries to camouflage all this misogyny with 'female voice' tracks like Mallika running away from her wedding.

I completely agree - violence and abuse are definitely not romantic. Yet, in Gul Khan shows, it seems that violence is often used to heighten intensity, passion and sexual tension in a scene and its downright disgusting.
