Chapter 5 - "Kiss And Don't Tell!"

*"Dil Pe Deewanagi chagayi iss kadar...band ankon se bhi mujko aye nazar.."

"What do you care Soumya...? Jao...Apni Ro-Yaan ke pass!" said Rudra, looking down at Soumya. The jealousy in his eyes evident. Soumya saw that expression and stole herself against reacting to it. Why was Rudra doing this? Because he thought she belonged to him in some way? Was it just male ego, or did he really feel something? She was lost.

"What are you doing Rudra?" whispered Soumya looking up at him, as she clutched the front of his leather jacket to keep herself in balance, as someone again walked past them and they had to move back.

Rudra looked down at her. She looked so cute looking at him like this, her eyes wide. How he wished she would just stay like this in his arms. It felt so right like she belonged in them. Did she really not know what he was doing? He thought he could not be more obvious?

"What do you think I'm doing Sumo? He asked huskily, holding her eyes. Soumya started to feel her face growing warm.

"I don't know!" she whispered back and his jaw hardened. Did she really not know, or did she just not believe his feelings? "I am playing like a player does! You know...we don't really care what we do most of the time, and self-destruction is our middle name!" said Rudra with an ironic laugh.

"Rudra...please stop behaving like a child!" said Soumya, and almost as soon as she said it, she regretted it. She knew the last time she accused him of acting like a kid what it had started.

"Child? Is that how you think I act? Maybe...iss childish harkat muje iss liye karna padtha hai...kyon ki meri totally grown up feelings ka tumai koi kadar nahi hai! So what's the point of acting like a grown up? Acting "mature" when your adult feelings are not respect or even taken seriously?" he asked looking at her intently. "WHY is it so hard for you to believe me?"

Soumya sighed. "Rudra...I do believe you! I mean...I believe you think you have feelings. But I don't know why you do? If it's because of Pune, then that's not a good enough reason!" said Soumya desperately.

"Why do you think it's about that?" asked Rudra in an equally desperate tone.

"What else would it be, or else why would you act this way?"

"Act! Yeah, that's all I can do! I'm a great actor. My feelings aren't real! I am doing what I do best. I turn on and off right? Playboys like me don't have real feelings. SO why do you concern yourself with me? Go back to that perfect little Ghulam of yours that is in your control! Mere saath time kyon waste kartin ho tum? Who am I to you anyway?" he asked holding her gaze.

"Rudra...tum..." Soumya sighed as she closed her eyes and looked away from him for a moment, unable to sustain his gaze.

"Yes, avoid the question, look away, that will solve everything!" said Rudra in a low angry tone as he looked down at Soumya. Just then he looked up to see the person he had started to hate the very sight of.

"Rudra...tum yaha?" said Riyaan who had walked over to the bar looking for Soumya. Soumya jumped at his voice and attempted to step away from Rudra. But he tightened his hold on her. She looked up at him in alarm and Chubby who had also been watching the whole scene from the side, took note of how Rudra had not let Soumya go.

"Hey Ro-Yaan...I mean Riyaan" said Rudra with a derisive smile. "We really need to stop meeting like this! Looks like you keep encroaching on my territory!" he said and his meaning was not lost on either Soumya or Chubby.

"Your territory? Why are you a regular here?" asked Riyaan in a slightly confused tone.

"You could say that. But I am talking in general. You know... how you're always at my collage, my house, now even at my favorite club? Why is it that you seem to always be in my space? Aaj tak ladakiyan Rudra pe fida hothi thi...Kya tum bhi mujpe fida hogaya hai Riyaan? Let me warn you now...I don't swing that way!" said Rudra with a laugh.

"I always knew you were a funny guy Rudra" said Riyaan, as he looked at Soumya who was still standing close to Rudra, and his arm was around her waist. He looked from Rudra to Soumya as if asking why they were standing as they were.

"Oh...your wondering why I am holding Soumya? See...Sumo was falling and I caught her, and then...well let's just say...I didn't feel like letting her go!" he said looking down at Soumya. Soumya held his gaze for a minute and looked away, once again trying to step away from Rudra, but his arm kept her firmly close to him.

He looked at Riyaan "You know the saying "friends don't let friends fall? And since Soumya is my friend, it's my duty to not let her fall!" said Rudra putting emphasis on the word Friend.

"Yes but I am her boyfriend. So now I am here, you can let her go. I can look after her!" said Riyaan, looking back at Rudra.

"Boyfriend ha? See boyfriends come and go...but Friends...friends are forever, so in that context, I trump you Riyaan!" said Rudra.

"Well no, see...I go above her friends now, because I am more than a boyfriend, I am her fiance!" said Riyaan triumphantly.

At this Rudra's eyes flashed and looking at Riyaan directly he said, "And I am her Husband!"

"What?" said Riyaan with a start. Chubby's eyes flew wide open as he heard this line. Even he had not expected to hear anything like that!

"Rudra!" said Soumya in an angry tone as she looked up at him, her lips pursing.

But Rudra continued as if she had said nothing. "I think in EVERY book, a husband trumps everyone right? Even parents! Toh yeh fiancee kya cheez hoti hai?" said Rudra looking squarely at Riyaan.

"But you're not Soumya's husband!" said Riyaan looking confused and a little angry.

"How can you be so sure...Ro-Yaan?" asked Rudra derisively.

"That's enough Rudra!" said Soumya angrily as she pushed herself out of his arms, but as she did, Rudra caught her wrist.

"We are not done here!" he said.

Soumya turned around. "You're right we're not!" she said looking at him angrily. She turned to Riyaan and said.

"Riyaan..I want to apologize for Rudra. He's not in his senses! Please can you get the car and meet me outside? I want to leave!" she said. Riyaan looked like he was going to say something when she said "Please!"

Riyaan looked at Soumya and then Rudra and nodded his head, and walked towards the entrance of the club. As he disappeared into the crowd, Soumya turned around and looked at Rudra, her eyes flashing.

"You! Come with me!" she said as she drew on Rudra's hand and dragged him away to a secluded corner of the club, away from the crowds. After reaching a corridor where no one else seemed to be around, Soumya almost pushed Rudra against the wall as she turned on him.

"What the hell is wrong with you? What was that spectacle out there? You said you're my husband in front of Riyaan and Chubby?" said Soumya angrily.

Rudra looked back at her with a twist of his lips. "What's the matter? Truth hurts? Or is it because I said it in front of Ro-Yaan that it bugs you so much? Ithani mirchi kyon lag gayi tumai? So what if he knows? It's the truth!" he said with a nonchalance he was far from feeling.

"It's NOT the truth! Rudra...tum samaj kyon nahi rahe ho? We are not married!" she said bunching her first and pushing it against the front of Rudra's jacket clad chest.

At that, Rudra caught her hand and using the momentum turned her around and now she was the one with her back to the wall and he was standing looming in front of her.

"Aur Soumya...TUM Samaj kyon nahi rahi ho...that we ARE!" he said looking down at her. "However much I try to forget that day I can't! But even if that day didn't happen, even if we didn't go through all those rituals...what I am feeling now I would still feel. Maybe not this fast, but it was going to happen. Don't you get it? I can't stop thinking about you. Tum har jaga dikayi dethi ho muje! Even with my eyes closed. I feel like I'm losing it. Have you ANY idea what this is like for me?" he asked.

"And have you any idea what this is like for ME? To have you saying all these things to me and then Riyaan..." Soumya was saying when Rudra cut her off.

"Riyaan...Riyaan...! WHY do you bring him up in everything? This is between us, you and me Soumya. I can't stand seeing him with you anymore. WHY are you with him when you know..." Rudra was saying when this time Soumya cut him off.

"When I can be with YOU? The great Rudra Singh Oberoi who is God's gift to women? How can I even see anyone else, when you have turned and looked at me twice right?" asked Soumya at which Rudra took a depth breath.

"I was going to say...When you know don't love him! But it's good to know how you think I think!" he said shaking his head at her.

"How do you know I don't love him?" asked Soumya defiantly.

"DO you?" asked Rudra challengingly. "Because from no angle does it look like he affects you in any way. Pyaar to door ki baath hai!"

"Suddenly you're an expert on this subject?"

"Baby...Rudy chemistry main expert hai! And I can tell when two people have chemistry and you and Ro-yaan don't! In fact...I think I affect you more!" he said softly.

"Really?" asked Soumya looking at him, but the intent way he was looking at her made her heart race.

"Yes really!" said Rudra moving even closer to Soumya. He put one hand on the wall next to her head and lifted his other hand and ran the back of his knuckles along her cheek. Soumya took a deep breath and closed her eyes at the sensation.

Rudra looked down at her and a small smile touched his lips. Sumo was not as unaffected by him as she pretended to be. He looked at her slightly parted pink lips, and just then she opened her eyes and saw Rudra looking at her his eyes warm with desire. She blushed, and Rudra moved even closer to her.

"How can you be so sure you affect me?" asked Soumya defiantly, trying to hold on to her last bit of sanity.

"How do you think?" asked Rudra softly, looking at her lips and then back at her eyes. His knuckles running down her cheek once more. Soumya's breath was coming faster now, and she was trying really hard to control her heartbeats and her reaction to Rudra's proximity, but she knew she was not doing a very good job of it.

Rudra smiled softly. "Well there is only one way to find out!" he said as the finger which had caressed her cheek now moved forward and captured her chin, and the hand he had placed against the wall now tangled in her hair lightly as Rudra closed the distance between them and his lips captured Soumya's.

For a second Soumya went completely still and Rudra slowly moved his lips away from her's only to capture them again and this time his lips were moving against hers softly and surely, and involuntarily Soumya's placed her hands on Rudra's chest as her fingers clutched the font of his jacket. At this reaction, Rudra slightly nipped Soumya's bottom lip and with a small hiss, her lips involuntarily parted for him and Rudra deepened the kiss. His fingers clenched into her hair and as they got completely lost in their passionate embrace.

A sudden sound of people's voices as they seemed to be moving closer to where they were brought Rudra and Soumya out of their private moment and Rudra moved his head away from Soumya as they looked at each other for a moment. Soumya's face was aflame as she tried to grapple with what just happened.

"Sumo..." Said Rudra softly as he attempted to move closer to her again. At that moment Soumya realized the enormity of what she had done. She had kissed Rudra, while Riyaan was outside in the carpark waiting for her. She couldn't stay with him here anymore. She didn't trust herself at all.

"No!" she said in a broken whisper "I can't do this Rudra!" she said with a small sob, her eyes filling with tears as she pushed at Rudra to make him move. Being caught off guard Rudra involuntarily moved aside as she stepped away from him and with a quick glance his way, she almost ran from the place.

Rudra watched her leave and bunched his fists, as he lightly slammed the wall in front of him. What had he done? Could he not control his feelings for one moment around Soumya? What must she be thinking now? Did he just reinforce his player image to her?

"Dammit!" He cursed himself. "Damn it to hell!" he said again as he ran his fingers through his hair. He walked back into the club and back to Booth 4. Chubby was back with the rest of the guys, and he looked at Rudra speculatively.

"Where were you?" asked Om, looking at Rudra. "Before you say it, I am not trying to be your Dad...just asking!" said Om lifting his hands up in defense.

Rudra sighed. "I'm sorry about before O. I was in a mood!"

"That seems to be quite common these days!" he said with a shake of his head.

"Actually O, if you don't mind...can we go now?" he said looking at his Brother. "I am not feeling like staying anymore and I even have to study for finals!"

His friends started to protest at this. "Come on Rudy man..." Said Shaan.

"Sorry guys...I'm feeling a bit tired today! I'll come out another day!" he said. Om looked at Rudra and realized that something was up, so he got up and took charge of the situation.

"Sorry guys...we gotta go. The fact is, it's our older brother Shivaay's wedding soon and there is always some function going on. We are all a bit tired!" he said, smoothing the situation quickly, and Rudra gave him a grateful look. Om turned to leave saying good night to the guys.

"Later guys!" said Rudra as he turned to leave with Om.

"Take it easy Rudy!" said Chubby, and Rudra nodded at him. He knew Chubby had figured out something was going on between him and Soumya. But clearly, this was not the time or the place to discuss it.

Om and Rudra drove back home and Rudra was very quiet almost throughout the drive. O had called an Uber to come pick them up as they had both had drinks. He didn't want to bother their household drivers who were mostly off duty at this time.

Rudra and Om walked towards Om's room and to do so, you had to walk past Rudra's old room. Rudra noticed that the light was on in Soumya's room, and he drew in a breath. That means she had come home? She hadn't gone anywhere else with Riyaan. The thought filled him with elation. The need to see her and talk to her was almost a physical pain. He sighed as he looked at the closed door of his room longlining.

"Looks like you miss your old room a lot Rudy! You're looking at it like your long lost love! Senti hogaya hai tu!" Om said with a laugh.

"Ha?" said Rudra as he snapped out of his thoughts.

"Kuch nahi. Looks like Soumya is home too!" said Om as they walked past the room "Wasn't she at Rockwater too?" asked Om.

"Yeah she was, maybe she was getting bored with Ro-yaan" muttered Rudra as they entered Om's room.

"You know you really need to stop dissing him!" said Om with a shake of his head.

"Whatever!"

"You know what you need?" asked Om as Rudra looked up at him. "You need to call Love Angle! I am sure SHE will help you out of whatever funk you have fallen into! Such a sensible girl and she always gives such good advice!" said Om as he turned on the radio and missed Rudra's pained expression.

"Dil pe deewanagi chagayi iss kadra...banda anokon se bhi mujko aye nazar...kaise kahe...humai kitani mohobaat hain...kiteni mohobaat hai!"

The strains of a famous love song stared to playing on the radio. Rudra fell onto the bed and looked up at the ceiling.

"You know it's true!"

"What?" asked Om as he too fell on the bed.

"What this song says...you can see her even when you close your eyes! Band anokon se bhi nazar atha hai O!"

"Koan?" asked Om turning his head to stare at Rudra, who now had his eyes closed.

"Love Angle!" said Rudra softly.

"Tum sach main pagal hogaya hai Rudra!"

"Ha...main pagal hogaya hu O...mera Dil gaya!"

"What? Kiss se?"

"You never kiss and tell O! The rule is...Kiss and don't tell!" said Rudra with a laugh.

"You're losing it!"

"Yes I have...muje pyaar hogaya hai O! I love my Love Angle!" he said with a sigh his eyes still closed as he drifted off to sleep.

Om opened his eyes and started at his sleeping brother's face. Is he telling the truth, or was he just talking nonsense? He knew how Rudra liked to kid around. That whole thing of loving Love Angle was probably just an expression. But why could he not quite dismiss the thought that there was more to what Rudra had said? His behavior and mood swings lately indicated something was amiss.

"Whatever it is...I wish you would tell me Rudra!" whispered Om as he also closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
