I really like your post, and was thinking of writing one myself, but you've more or less said it all. Save for the stuff I feel slightly differently about.
The writers of this show are intelligent and sensible enough to not portray this abuse as a joke ( I do follow them on social media).
I am glad that this issue was brought up because male abuse is not uncommon, and it's usually laughed off but this is terrifying. The kind of power Romi thinks she possesses, the unquestioning and the divine, adding the idea of the occult, of over sexualising, of religious fanatism, all these are serious issues, and today, seeing Rudy, my heart broke. He was terrified and this will definitely scar him for life.
At this point, he needed tenderness, and just to not give explanations, and I think since Soumya knew already, she was there for him to care about it.
Anyway, the point I was making was, you're right it was definitely not funny, and I don't think it was supposed to be as well.
Forcing someone to commit to you emotionally, physically, and in other ways is abuse, and is not cool. ever. I am just glad that male abuse is being taken seriously in the show. I am so impressed with Leenesh with the way he gave Rudra that vulnerability. He was so realistic, I really felt for Rudy.
