Soumya opened her eyes and turned slowly onto her side. She was greeted by the chiselled expanse of Rudra's back.
She hadn't realised that even a back could be honed to perfection, but Rudra's was. Though as she had discovered, there wasn't a single part of Rudra's body which wasn't perfect, his muscles powerful as he had moved over her the previous night.
Soumya only had Reyhan to compare him to, but in all ways her first had been much, much worse. Reyhan had been selfish in life and in bed, and Soumya's only memories of the few times she had slept with him were painful and fast.
With Rudra it had been anything but. The build up had been slow and erotic and Rudra had done things to her she had never even heard of, teasing her until she had almost begged for him to just do it already. When he finally had, Soumya had sucked in an breath, anticipating pain... but there had been none.
She had locked eyes with him then, kissed him as he moved with her in a way that built up and up until it finally flared into a tidal wave of pleasure that ran through her entire body, every muscle clenching and quivering with the sensation. She had felt Rudra's body do the same, their hearts racing together as he quickly flipped over so that she was lying on top of him as opposed to him collapsing over her.
"Soumya..."
He had kept whispering her name before they had both given in to their exhaustion and finally fallen asleep.
""""""
She was awake.
She was awake, and he was being a coward.
When he had realised she was waking up, he had quickly turned onto his side to face away from her, trying to give himself a few extra moments to think. But he couldn't. He couldn't think about last night and what he had done or why she had let him do it.
Rudra had never slept with someone like Soumya. Or rather, he had never slept with someone he felt for the way he felt about Soumya. She was his best friend. Rudra didn't sleep with his friends. He didn't have any female friends with whom he could sleep. He always started friendships with women if not with the intention, then with the very high possibility that it would become a physical thing eventually.
It wasn't that he hadn't been open to the opportunity for friendship, but they just hadn't turned out to be people he wanted to be friends with.
Not like Soumya.
He felt sick. What had he done? He had guilt tripped her into having sex with him and now... now what? Would it be awkward? Would she treat him differently? Would she stop being his Soumya? Would his Soumya hate him?
Rudra Singh Oberoi did not think about consequences because when he did, his trains of thought were just as depressing as those his brothers always went down. Taking a deep breath, he sat up.
"""""
Soumya, who had just been about to reach out to trace the lines of Rudra's back with her finger quickly snatched it back and sat up too, pulling the duvet up to cover her chest as she did so.
"Morning," she said, clearing her throat.
Rudra didn't reply. When she turned to face him, she realised he was staring at her, his eyes piercing. She met his gaze for a few seconds, but when he continued staring with that same unreadably intense look in his eyes, she darted her eyes away, picking at the duvet instead.
When she glanced back at him a few seconds later, she found him still staring.
"Rudra for the love of God, I can't read your mind, what do you want? Do you want me to leave?"
He shook his head and reached out a hand to take one of hers. Soumya's lips parted slightly in surprise, her breath catching as he began to stroke his fingers slowly over the back of her hand. The stretch had caused the duvet to fall dangerously low around his hips, exposing the V of his lower abdomen. Soumya pulled her eyes away and forced herself to once again look into Rudra's.
"I want to stay friends."
A stab to her gut. She jerked her hand back, out of his grasp. She took a deep breath and looked away, swallowed. "Fine."
"But I also want to do that again."
Her head snapped up. "What?"
Rudra was resting his head in his palms, his fingers pushing back his hair. Soumya reflexively reached out a hand to comfort him, but the heat of his bare shoulder felt like it was burning her. The touch seemed to be enough for him, however, and he looked up. "I know I might have guilt tripped you into it, and I understand if you say no and say you just want to stay friends and if that's the case, then I will apologise for last night. But I don't want to. I don't regret it, I'm not sorry... and I want to do it again." He paused and then added, "Now, if possible." The last bit in a tone so quintessentially Rudra that Soumya actually laughed. Even in a moment with so many potential future repercussions it made her head spin, he made her laugh.
She reached out and took his hand, her heart skipping a beat at the relieved and then delighted smile he gave her.
As he shifted closer to her, she felt her pulse start to pick up with excitement. Thoughts of what they had to do later that day briefly flitted through her mind: seeing Anika and Omkara again; dealing with the fallout as Rudra was forced to face that situation again; the potential fallout from this when they both left the suspended reality of the hotel room and re-entered the real world.
But then she decided that for now, for just now, she would live like Rudra. Screw the consequences, she'd deal with them if and when they came. For now-
"Urgh Rudra your morning breath is rancid, go brush your damn teeth."
He laughed, and blew a waft of said breath directly at her face as he jumped out of bed and darted to the bathroom, leaving Soumya wondering why on earth they had waited this long.

Rudra continues to be the most emotionally mature OBro and the one most willing to make the choices that will make him happy. 😆 I say that having written a large part of the previous chapter from Omkara's PoV before switching to it being exclusively Anika. Your comments on the last chapter were also incredible and now I have SO MANY I need to reply to. I promise my replies are coming because I am dying to reply to some, but alas- Neurosurgery is a demanding mistress. I am reading and appreciate them all, however, and I'll try to respond to any that ask questions which aren't going to tempt me into giving away spoilers. 😆
