Looking out of the auto, Anika finally sighted the huge building looming over her.
Itna acha din jaa raha tha aur phir daadi ne mujhe yeh file le kar bhej diya Billu ji ke office. Pata nhi abh yahan kya hoga. Mujhe phir se inse ladhai nhi karni hai. Ek toh yeh phone bhi abhi marna tha. Kuch deer aur nhi rukk sakta tha? -A
Anika stepped off the auto rickshaw and walked slowly towards the main entrance of the Oberoi Industries Head Office.
Heading up to the security guard she asked to be allowed to meet Mr. Oberoi. He asked for some identification which Anika obviously didn't have.
"Dekhiye aap ek baar Billu ji, mera matlab, Shivaay Singh Oberoi ko phone karke puch lijiye. Voh mujhe jaante hai. Main unke ghar se aayi hu," Anika tried explaining but the guard wouldn't relent.
"Aise har aeri gaeri ladki ke kehne par main unhe andar jaane dene laga ya sir ko disturb karne laga toh meri naukri nhi chali jaegi?" He retorted.
"Aur agar tumhe pata laga ki voh mujhe asal mein jaante hai aur tumne mujhe andar nhi jaane diya toh bhi tum naukri se nikale hi jaoge. Mera phone off ho gaya hai nhi toh main unhe khudh call kar deti," Anika tried to explain.
"Dekhiye aap jaiye yaha se nhi toh mujhe security bulani padhegi," The guard said, now losing his patience.
Anika huffed but didn't bugde. Peeping in from the front door, she tried getting a glimpse of the man in question. But alas, what would the owner of the company be doing on the ground floor. She decided to try one last time before thinking of resorting to something else.
"Dekhiye, aap bass unhe call karke dekh lijiye. Mujhe pata hai Gayatri scandal ki vajah se unki security badha di gayi hai, but main unhe sach mein jaanti hu!"
"Tum jaati ho yaha se yaa..." the guard began but was interrupted before he could complete his threat.
"What do you think you're doing?" Shivaay himself spoke in a warning laced voice.
"Sir voh yeh ma'am keh rahi thi ki yeh aapko jaanti hai. Toh main bass inhe bhaga hi raha tha idhar se. Arre chalo niklo." The poor guard, he mistook Shivaay fury for having crossed paths with a girl like Anika, still thinking that a man like him would never know her.
"Shut up! Speak with respect. Tum jaante bhi ho yeh kaun hai? Just get out of here! Aur dubara mujhe apni shakal mat dikhana." His voice rose an octane and the poor lad shivered in fear before scurrying off to somewhere. Shivaay took a calming breath before turning back towards Anika.
"Uss bechare ko daraane ki kya zarurat thi? Voh toh apna kaam hi kar raha tha na?" Anika fired at him and once again he was stupefied by how he could never guess what this woman was thinking.
"He just insulted you and you're telling me I was too rude to him? He's lucky I didn't do anything worse!" Shivaay exclaimed indignantly.
"Aapko kyun itna farak padh raha hai? Aapne toh mujhse zyada buri tarah se behave kiya hua hai." Anika responded without really pondering over her comment. Indeed, Shivaay had done worse that anything that guard could've done but she hadn't mean to make it sound that way. She had somehow forgiven him a long time ago. Perhaps, he had hurt her so only because she had given him the power to.
However, to Shivaay, it was a slap in the face. Or maybe a bucket of water thrown in his face would be more appropriate. He had treated her badly and the guilt hit him full force. Anika had done for him and his family what nobody else even bothered to think about. She had gone above and beyond to give him back in good all the bad she had gotten from him. Repentance was the only thing he could think of, and with that in mind, he set up a plan for it.
In the meantime, however, he had only one question on his mind.
"Tum yaha kya kar rahi ho?" Shivaay asked impatiently, suddenly remembering the million other things he was supposed to be doing instead.
"Voh main.." Anika took a file out of her bag and handed it over to Shivaay, "main yeh dene aayi thi. Daadi ne mujhe bheja tha."
"Daadi ne tumhe kyun bheja? Voh driver bhi toh bhej sakti thi na. Tum aayi kaise?" Shivaay asked.
"Auto se," Anika replied in a matter-of-fact manner.
"Tum pagal ho kya? Driver nhi le kar aa sakti thi? Chalo main tumhe ghar chod deta hoon," Shivaay declared, immediately forgetting all his pending work, Anika's safety being foremost on his mind. Anika began to protest but one look from Shivaay, who knew what was to come, dried the words on her lips. She silently followed Shivaay to his car, which was brought to the front gate at a wave of his hand. Shivaay dismissed the driver and sat in the driver's seat himself.
"Aapne mujhe abhi takh guest list nhi di," Anika broke the silence. She remembered how she was supposed to ask Shivaay for Adirut's homecoming party's guest list the previous night but had failed to do so after sensing Shivaay's sudden mood swing.
"That was your job," Shivaay accused her, slightly disgruntled at her lethargy, not being used to it. Not only that, Shivaay blamed her newfound friendship with Adirut for this. Afterall, wasn't she enroute to his room when they had crossed paths the night before.
"Main toh Adirut se milne ke baad apke paas aane hi vaali thi, par aap itne gusse mein gaye ki mujhe laga aapse aaj milna hi behtar rahega," Anika murmured.
"Guest list ready hain and mere room mein hai, main ghar jaate hi tumhe voh de dunga." Shivaay replied and a hush fell over the conversation.
Upon reaching the mansion they both exited the car and walked towards Shivaay's room. He picked up a piece of paper from his bedside table which had a printed list of names and phone numbers and turned back to hand it over to Anika. Shivaay wanted to apologise for his misbehaviour in the past and deemed that a private enough setting but Adirut sauntered into the room right at that moment.
"Shiv, did you already give the guest list to Anika?" He questioned and once his eyes fell on Anika he quickly walked over to her side.
"Oh good, you met me here itself. Come with me, I need to add a few names to this list." He pulled Anika by her elbow without another glance at the seething man left behind.

(A/N):-I apologise for not updating for over a month, what with Dewali and exams and then my sister's marriage taking over all my time. I do hope atleast some of you are still interested in this story as I wish to complete it as soon as possible. Thankyou for the lovely comments you guys left encouraging me to keep updating soonish and also for everyone who liked the previous part.
