The first time posting in this forum...but I don't think yesterday's episode was harmful to the community , yes it was pretty disgusting and explicit...but what we have to realize is that these kinds of things do happen in the society, widows get burned, honor killings., burning people alive, these things happen. We don't see this because we live in a country where open and narrow mindedness go hand in hand and we represent the open minded community. We may feel that this is over stating of affairs but the truth is more gruesome. With the amount of honor killings we have in this country, we might be living in a community of barbarians. Bitter truth is still the truth. I was not very much into the show but by chance i came across this episode yesterday and had to admire the courage of the whole team to show these scenes.
The point is someone has to show us a mirror, it is better if that someone is from our own society than any outsider. If people get wrong message from the episode it's definitely not the fault of PH. For one the show gives the exact opposite message of the wrong one and secondly the PH is not responsible for people who cannot perceive such an explicit message which they even wrote down as disclaimer. Now about the religious aspect of this, that is another kind of reality. Viplav and Dhani are ardent Hindus, Benares is a holy place for Hindus, there are actually pandits who do the same and there are the good Pandits who do not trifle with the material absurdities of the world. The show just has the wrong kind, the so called "pandits" but that is because the concept of the show is something of that kind. Its a show based on the atrocities committed to a widowed woman in the name of samaj and religion and how she transcends these evils when love knocks at her door once more. Even in the real world you see more of the fake pandits than real ones.
Lastly, this is my opinion. I do accept that there are different sides of truth and the one I see is not the one you, the TM sees. In my opinion the PH showed real courage in tackling the issue head on when there were a lot of possibilities of the show getting sued. In a world where TV shows deal with themes of regressive mentality like dayans, naagins and other such supernatural elements, this show has to be appreciated for showing brutal realism and advocate progressiveness because as much as we say that we are moving forward, we lack even the progressive mind set of our ancestors. I think therefore we can safely agree to disagree on this topic
