IKRS: Tuesday 11th August 2015 My Take.. The strong weak?
In my view, this episode verges upon the family unit. A strong consistent unit complete with parents, sibling ,and an alive and well pair of grandparents. Viplav, continues to hold his family's undivided attention.
Family Worship is given prime importance, as it shows the family is governed by tenets set within a faith which is entwined with age old custom and practices handed down by the forefathers. Now the elders pass those faith values to the next generation. Hence a ceremony is held to seek from the deities, well -being and longevity for Viplav the perfect man grandson! Alongside prayers and mantras are chanted to ward off all evil spirits especially in view of the fact that he is meant to travel abroad. Viplav takes the obeisance rites in a stride as the centre of the family's attention of course. It is tradition that is to be followed, for the sake of reverence for the deities, and for the set in stone family values. However by his body language he shows clearly that the significance of his faith he realizes not! as Dhani had rightly pointed out to him in their first meeting , when he is rebuked by her! regarding his flippant attitude towards the offertory.
The other issue that captured my interest, in today's episode is the manner in which the weak and vulnerable in society are picked upon and mistreated by the stronger lot. At first I also looked out for gender issues in the episode , where males picked on the females in various incidents ..
Viplav's grandad constantly belittles his grandmother.. whom Viplav adores. On the other hand , his stunning mother is clearly more in command than his father. So I arrive at the conclusion, it's not only a gender issue .. it's more about the tough compressing the unprotected.. The weak appear exposed by some personalized failing or short coming.
For example , we have Viplav's father, disabled, and clearly rejected both by his father, senior Tirpathi and by his wife too ,Viplav's mother.. Viplav notices how his maimed father is picked on for his imperfection.. I wonder when Viplav, watches his father's arrival for worship how he is treated by his grandfather and his own mother.. that somewhere inside there is anger within him .. which makes him behave like an undesirable! as Viplav , too picks and bullies Dhani , because she falls under the category of widowhood..weak and vulnerable..
The final example where the weak are picked on by the strong, is Viplav's sister. She is degraded by her own mother for being obese and unsightly when compared to her stunning mother and handsome brother Viplav.
Senior Tirpathi, leaves no stone unturned in humiliating his wife publicly .. for giving him a son with a physical disability..
Thus in today's episode to me the focus was on the hypocrisy of the rich and powerful and dehumanization of the feeble and faint..
Viplav is called a hypocrite and a devil! by a vulnerable member of society .. enraged! Symbolized by the vermillion he covers her with! he lives up to the epithet she bestows him with! Rakshas! demon!
To me this fury in Viplav cannot be just because Dhani confronts him and refuses him.. it has to be some other under lying reason? that will orchestrate a revolution ! rebellion!
