Di, thanks for sharing the promo.. and i agree.. may be they would have a lot nicer effects and set.. but costumes and jewelry also plays an important role..

i also didn't like her costume..it's way too modern.. she looks like she is going to attend her sister's wedding..
and i don't get this concept of loose hair.. at that time it was considered to be bad if princess/queen left their hair loose..
in Ramcharit manas, Tulsi ji specifically mentioned about it when Kaikiyi goes to Kop bhavan..
they need to design costumes and make-up based on the emotions and feelings those characters have..
during Lakshman-Sita scenes that feeling of mother-son feeling relation will be no where..
they can't make her dress up like that is she is going to meet her parents or in-laws..
also, if they give same kind of costumes to other princesses.. i don't think it will look good when they will meet their son-in-laws (like urmila in front of Ram ji or Bharat ji..)
that is why I miss Ramanand Sagars shows a lot...

Exactly! Back in the ancient days of our puranas, the rules of proper dress and attire were very different from today's modern beliefs. Today, loose hair is fashionable and not believed to be wrong, and each to their own belief, but when showing a mythological show, they should get the attire right. Just because they have good sets and technology doesn't mean they're done with the work. They should do proper research into the attire of people back in those days.

For example, it is written very clearly in Mahabharat why Draupadi chose to leave her hair lose during her 13 year vanvaas. It was a sign of her anger and revenge against Dushashan. He had insulted her, a daughter-in-law of the Kuru vansh, in front of the entire household and sabha. By touching her hair and ripping it lose from its braid, he insulted her in the worst way possible. So for her to braid her hair afterwards would be a sign of acceptance of the abuse. So she left her hair lose to remind her husband every day of the horrible act they had to avenge one day.

If such rules were so strict in the dwapara yuga, why wouldn't they be strict in the treta yuga? Even in Ramayana, there are many examples of proper hair attire. When Vedavati was doing tapasya and Ravan pulled her hair loose, she cursed him in anger.

When Kaikeyi went to the Kop Bhavan in Ayodhya Kand, she pulled her hair loose to show her displeasure and anger. And it's written that by doing so, she caused her husband's downfall and death, for a woman to have lose hair is considered inauspicious.

Whether one believes this rule or not is irrelevant. But this rule was very much respected and believed during the treta yuga, and for an incarnation of Lakshmi Ma to go around in lose hair is SO inaccurate, and it's insulting to the Goddess to show her in that way.

Madirakshi is pretty as Sita, but for me she has no aura of Sita in her present attire. I am very dissatisfied with the CVs in their portrayal of her so far.

If this show is from Sita's perspective, then they have to show her also as a single mother who raised her sons luv kush without anybody's help.

Sita's role as a devoted mother to luv kush and her final duty of reuniting her sons luv kush with their father Rama is very important in Ramayan.

Also her going to mother earth is very important without which Ramayan cannot be complete.

From what I've noticed, Uttar Kand is generally shown only if the show is well received for the first six kandas. Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan and Anand Sagar's Ramayan showed Uttar Kand because audience demanded it and both shows were a hit, but Zee Tv's Ramayan did not show it because of its low ratings. In fact, they had to axe the show after one point and rushed through Ravan vadh.

So let's see how this show is received first! Uttar Kand is a whole new discussion for later on, lol.

Since this show is by makers of DKDM, would like to say something about Sita's open hair.
They had shown in DKDM, just before Mahadev- Parvati's marriage, Arundhati had come, invited by Mena for braiding Parvati's hair as she was getting married. Mena said, married woman keeps her hair braided. So may be unmarried girls were allowed their freedom. Those yugas were more broad minded regarding certain aspects.
Kaikeyi & Draupadi were married. Both had a major reason for not tying their hair during a particular period in their lives.

I agree...even I remember that part...Devi Arundhati told that unmarried girl can keep their heir open but a married women can't...only if their husband die then they will open their heir...and about the costumes Sita's costumes are similar to Sati's costume...don't you think...and yeah those times were more broad minded...even you can see this in the old sculptures...those founded in Harappa or in Ajanta Ilora caves...

True, I am looking foreword to see this version.
Krita & Dwapar yuga had better values. Before marriage a girl is trained in various fields. She was a free bird, can move, grow while getting educated, trained. They were more with Nature.

Since we are using television shows as facts, I would like to point out that in Starbharat, right after Draupadi has been found, her maid braids her hair and tells her that it is inauspicious for a woman to go around with lose locks, hence why she is braiding it.

I agree that women enjoyed many liberties back in those days, but at the same time, they also had many restrictions. They were not "free birds" per se. They were still tied to customs and expected to behave a certain way, unmarried or not. Sure, married women had more rules to follow, but unmarried women also had rules to ensure their family reputation remained safe.

For example, a princess in Sita's position wouldn't roam around in the gardens on her own without her attendants, like the promo has shown. It's written in Ramayan itself that wherever Sita went (before marriage) she was followed by her sisters and maids. In Tulsidas Ramayan, Sita sees Ram for the first time in the pushp vatika, and she is very reticent to go at all. Her friends have to convince her to go see him. In Valmiki Ramayan, there is no "first meeting" of Ram-Sita before he breaks the shiv dhanush.

Here in the promo, Sita is roaming like a free bird around the gardens of mithila.

The promo doesn't look bad, but there's these little things that take away from the overall feel of Ramayan. Maybe the actual show will be better, I don't know.

To be honest, it's not even the fact that Sita has lose hair in the promo. It's the style of the lose hair which looks too modern and simple. I mean, mythological shows have shown lose hair before on actresses, and they still retained the divinity of the character. Sonarika had lose hair as Parvathi, but she still looked like Devi Parvathi.
See in these pictures, especially the top right one. Madirakshi doesn't look like Sita at all in these pictures. Her hair, though lose, isn't styled or jeweled, as a princess's would. It's wavy as if she used a curling iron (which she probably did), but see, Sita wouldn't have had a curling iron would she? -_- Also, even if she left her hair lose, there'd be more jewelry to keep it in place instead of letting it run wild in the wind.

Whether unmarried women left their hair lose or not is a different topic altogether, but they were definitely not unadorned, and they wouldn't have run wild with their hair flying behind them. This Sita gives an impression of being a bit reckless and impulsive. I hope the actual show is much better, or it won't be keeping my interest for long.

It's all about watching a show with expectation or without any expectation. A lesson learnt since DBSK days, followed by DKDM. I dont have any expectations, so have enjoyed, learnt a lot, grown too with DKDM. Would like to remember them for their good impact. Watching such shows with expections, preconceived ideas takes away the magic they created or can create.
Lets hope the show turns out to be excellent. The actors are able to invoke the feel of their characters. It's too early to criticize anything.

To be honest, I really don't have much expectations in the mytho shows coming out these days, but I require at least the bare minimum. I'm not saying they should make them like the shows of the 80s, but you can still cater to the modern audience by following at least the bare minimum strictures of those times. It's not asking for much.
