Congratulations! and Thank you for the wonderful tribute to the MOST watched epic in the World!!! (its in the record books) 👏👏
My parents had video cassettes of the Mahabharat and that was how I was introduced to the Mahabharat, I have watched the Mahabharat so many times! of course I have favourite episodes, but all of it is a masterpiece!! I believe everyone should watch the Mahabharat, there is so much to learn from it! I met Nitish Bharadwaj (Shri Krishna) many years ago, and I was totally in awe!! 😳 He is so knowledgeable and his command on Hindi is excellent!

here is a page dedicated to BR Chopra's Mahabharat, has all the actors, and their info, etc: https://www.facebook.com/pages/BR-Chopras-Mahabharat/112069202199559?sk=questions

these are recent photos of the original cast (when they made a film on Barbareek):

MY MESSAGE:

Thank you very much for creating a celebration thread on, what is, in my opinion, the GREATEST TV SHOW on Indian television. It would not be an exaggeration to say it was like Sholay of Indian TV - the Greatest Story Ever Told and the Greatest Cast ever assembled!
I was not born when this show made its debut on TV. I was too young but still I have memories of this show, playing on Sunday mornings. And me and my brother trying to mimic warriors in battle scenes!
The craze for this show was unmatched. I remember how everyone in the family used to drop everything and huddle to watch this show. Even the maid used to drop everything and watch TV in rapt attention as Mahabharat played on it!
We were hooked. I do not consider Mahabharat related to any specific religion...for me...it is a universal story...with characters who have their own share of amazing strength and equally astonishing flaws. It is a story that everyone can relate to. And BR Chopra made it easier to relate to, as each important scene and each episode was followed by a sort of moral of the story, sung by Mahendra Kapoor (if I am not mistaken).
All the lines were so well written and thought provoking!

I remember watching this show whenever and wherever it was aired! It's been shown later on Zee TV, Sony and even Star. And I admit, being a fan, I watched it every single time, with same delight, and perhaps in a better light as I began to understand the story and characters and began to question, reason on my own. Watching this show has not only been a spectacle of royalty, drama or action or acting of highest calibre but also a richly thought provoking experience.

This show once held the record for longest running show on Indian television...it was a part of our GK books too in school!

Years later, in 2008, when I noticed that series was available in set of DVDs, I insisted on getting only this as my birthday gift, though elders would wonder why I wanted to spend on an old serial which was repeated often across different television networks. I remember I had vacation after that - and I have no qualms in admitting that I spent the ENTIRE day watching episodes of Mahabharat, only taking out time to sleep or eat.😆
I would watch it all, without fast forwarding anything. Even title song and ending song was a must watch for me. I have used replay button often to re-watch favorite sequences!

The craze and sheer reverence that this show inspires was evident in how, again, when sounds of this show playing on our TV would be heard by anyone, they'd especially ask us was it Mahabharat? Which channel was it playing on now? What were its timings?😆 Then we would tell them it was not on any channel but we had got the DVD set!

This time also family used to watch it with me, we would marvel at actors, their command over language, their poise and the well written dialogues. A domestic help who was newly hired, had also dropped everything when she had seen Mahabharat playing on TV, kept asking me which channel it was!

So one can imagine what impression this show had made on audience.

The actors were so perfect that whenever I read or hear about Mahabharat I can only visualise this show's actors like Mukesh Khanna, Pankaj Dheer, Nitish Bharadwaj, Rupa Ganguly, Puneet Issar etc. in my mind. They've been the best and I firmly believe they will be unsurpassed in their roles in this epic show.
Since I had watched this show when I was very young, I was used to calling these actors by their screen names only. My brother still exclaims, "Duryodhan!" whenever he sees Puneet Issar!

LOADS of memories associated with this show, be it in childhood or later. Family collectively watching this show...praising everyone's acting...me and my siblings imitating battle sequences...and years later getting this show's DVDs as birthday gift and spending all day watching like an addict!

I can't believe so many years have passed...

When shows like this were on TV, it felt like time never passed...the golden days were still there...

Watching TV now seems like going through a routine. It was never as engaging and fascinating as those days.

Title song of Mahabharat and scenes from it have been used in films and those religion related segments on news channels. It feels wonderful to see how iconic it is till date without any special PR or marketing overdrive.

A phenomenon be it on TV, online, in DVD sales or media coverage (it gets it all the time!).

Never before...and...NEVER AGAIN...😭

Thank you so much to the entire TEAM of BR Chopra's Mahabharat for making this show - everyone from makers, creatives, writers to singers and of course the ACTORS! You've defined an era, you've set a STANDARD which others can only look up to and hope to replicate. You all did an exceptional job and you will forever remain etched in hearts and minds of generations of viewers. Thanks for giving a likening to characters we had only read or heard of.
I am proud and happy to have watched this show...both as a little kid and a growing adolescent.
Thank you for bringing us clean and crisp entertainment. A zillion thanks for beautiful memories and nostalgia.

I wish there were television awards at that time. Then this show and its team would have been LOADED with awards!

Anyway, lasting love of audience across different age groups even after 25 years is the award which not many shows can boast of.

Thanks for binding a nation together and getting them glued to TV!😆

Thank you very much to internet and online groups and forums like IF where fans still share their memories and debate this show - and are now getting together to celebrate its 25th anniversary!🤗

Thanks to the team for creating this thread which is so gorgeous and befitting tribute to this legendary show.👍🏼

Heartiest congratulations once again to team of Mahabharat, Doordarshan and all fans and ardent viewers of this epic show!🥳

This show will be remembered forever...and some day, some place, again people will gather to celebrate its 50th anniversary...

The legend continues...

Seekh hum beete yugon se naye yug ka karen swagat..karen swagat..karen swagat...karen awagat...😭

@Bhavaani and Lola - Thanks for opening this thread and you have done a wonderful job.👏 You brought back memories of school days when we used to wait eagerly for Sunday. During exams we were asked to choose between Rangoli and Mahabharat and it would always be the later. We would discuss about the episode to no end on Monday at school. Pray hard that there should not be power cut on Sunday morning😊

Its unbelievable that its been 25 years. Doordarshan was the only channel on TV. All the serials had a time span and it remains in our memory for a long time.
It is difficult to choose a particular actor or scene because all of them were versatile and their acting skills brought the characters alive more than technology.
