'Mahabharata' cast finalised

While the promos of "Mahabharata" are already on air, the names of the actors for the upcoming show have only just been finalised.

While the promos of "Mahabharata" are already on air, the names of the actors for the upcoming show have only just been finalised.

Shaheer Sheikh, seen on the show "Navya...Naye Dhadkan Naye Sawaal", will play Arjun and Saurabh Jain, who is seen as Lord Vishnu on "Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev", has been roped in to essay Lord Krishna, said a statement from Star Plus.

Sayantani Ghosh, best known for her lead role in "Naaginn", will play Satyavati, while Ratan Rajput will be seen as princess Amba.

Rest of the cast includes Prannet Bhatt as Shakuni and Puneet Issar, who was seen as Duryodhan in "Mahabharata" that used to come on DD National in 1988, will now be seen as Parshuram.

The makers haven't decided the launch date of the show.

Actor Saurabbh Roy is ready to slip into a mythological character. He will play Draupadi's father, Draupad, in the upcoming show "Mahabharata". He is overjoyed with the opportunity.

"Unlike my character in daily soaps like 'Amita Ka Amit', the role of Draupad demands a lot more physical fitness and elegance," Saurabbh said in a statement.

He was earlier a part of the show "Khatron Ke Khiladi Torchar" with actress Smita Bansal, and was also seen on "Amita Ka Amit" as Amita's dream boy.

I hope they show the early history of Drona & Drupad - how the 2 were childhood friends, and how Drupad turned on Drona when the latter approached him for help. I don't want Drupad to only be introduced when it's time for either the Pandavas to pay Gurudakshina, or during Draupadi's swayamvara

I wonder how these distantly spread out appearances will be maintained? Drupad would appear first as the ruler who rebuffed Drona, then as the ruler who was captured by Arjun and presented to Drona, then again at Draupadi's swayamvara, then would be a somewhat regular feature during the Kurukshetra war.

Unless they find a way to show him in between.

One thought struck me. If the Mahabharata PH are poaching Saurabh from DkDM, why leave Ragini Deb there - what will she do if Narayan isn't around? They should take her as well, and give her a role - not Rukmini, since the Ragini is not beautiful enough to play her, but maybe Jambavati. Or, if they haven't finalized Draupadi, then Ragini seems to be the perfect candidate to play her.

Also, since Sonarika is gone from there, I have some suggestions for her as well. If she's going directly to Bollywood, no comments, but if she's still available for TV roles, I think she should play the role of Subhadra. That way, she will have cameo roles, and assuming that they show it right to the end and accurately (ha!), she would be the person to whom Yudhisthir would entrust both Parikshit & Vajra.

Are the Mahabharat guys still hunting for a Draupadi? As I suggested above, since they've gotten Saurabh, they might as well take Ragini as well. She'd make a great Draupadi. Or they could try Himanshi Chaudhari, or someone else. It needn't be - in fact shouldn't be - a hot actress, since Draupadi was born an adult from the fire, and they'll have to show her age as well, especially if they show the war.

Besides, they can start the serial - if they start it w/ the birth of Bheeshma and those events, it would be a couple of months at least before the Pandavas, Draupadi and Krishna surface. So even if they started, they'd still have time to find good roles for Draupadi.

On the Pandava side, I wish they get the DBSK Yudhisthir & Bhima for those very roles - Sachin Verma & Jai Mathur. I'll post other suggestions as they come to mind.
