Hmmmm, idk. Those scenes were pretty different. I thought the SK one was wrapped up pretty quick and promptly, whereas in JSK they went in too much detail and took too long. But I really liked the part with Saraswati mata, who is also Vak devi, making Vasudev act wisely.

^^ I also had mixed feelings on the retake... barring the cheesy freeze frames and red skies I really loved SK's cuz besides the fact that I'm used to it, the intensity and sense of urgency that came through from the performances made Vasudevji's character really stand out as courageous and wise and selfless. With JSK's inclusion of Saraswati Maa, there was an added mytho-ish spiritual dimension in the scene rather than a worldly one, a clear reminded that this was all part of a bigger plan and all the angels in heaven were in on it. But then, at the same time it took that agency away from Vasudevji so that he can't be as much of a practical role model because without divine intervention, he was merely trembling like a leaf. Same scene, different messages, both right for different situations.

@Lola,
Yeah, I don't mean to say that the magic is not there when you rewatch the epis...just that the magic of seeing it for the first time is different from seeing it the 2nd or 3rd or 4th. Of course, since you were a baby when you first watched RS's shows, the experience was prob totally different for you.😆 But I saw Ramayan only a few years ago, and SK now....and though I def plan to rewatch my fav epis over and over, it'll still be diff from how I felt the first ever time watching it. This time I'll know what to expect, so the anticipation and suspense of wondering what comes next will be gone.😳
Of course, it can also be the other way around for certain shows too....because like for new Ramayan, I did not like it at all the first time around but liked it more the 2nd.😆 Of course, seeing the terribly dubbed version the first time and the original the second may have made a difference, but you know what I mean.😉

^^ Lol yeah you're right, I guess that's what I was trying to say - I can't relate, that's all 😆 while I'm here, my replies:

- your response to the Yashoda Maa thing about human nature by her own choice made sense. The Alvars' poetry from the Nalayira Divya Prabandham depicts this scene with selfless love from both sides - one of them even wrote up a cute conversation between them, where they first pay obeisance to each other and regard the other as greater but conclude they are one and the same, and then Yashoda Maiya tells Devaki Maiya all about Krishna's childhood leelas with complete fondness, no bitterness whatsoever!!! It's really beautiful, a popular theme in kathakali dramas for some reason.

Anyways, also agree about Narad as always. As for the first flute story, it's not from the puraans - I came across it in a Bhakti Movement poetry anthology that had stuff by Surdas, Meerabai, Tulsi, Kabir, Narottamdas, etc. - I will try to find it again, I think this particular one was in a Hariram Vyas composition. I haven't uploaded the RS lecture that followed the gopi vastra leela but it's on my to-do list. Why did they cut them 😔

@ Ashok acting after SK - I posted a bunch of stuff on him in CC5, will repost in the offscreen thread asap... short answer is he did indeed 😛

Onto Dec. 30th entry
- Kaaliya song is one of my favs too!!
- the Balram/Shesh scaring Kans out of killing VD is another fav moment for its originality and depth... jaak raakhe saaiyan, maar sake na koi 😍 and it was a great reality check regarding Kans's cruelty... his comedic huffing and puffing may have made him look less harmful but there he was, calling a murder plan "an auspicious deed" 🤢
- Agree about the Radharani from Ashok's phase, that she got to use her own kiddish voice was already endearing and plus her expressions that kept it simple but effective and devout... really really sweet 😍
- that dude Indra summons isn't Vayu Dev, it's his biggest baddest cloud Saamvartak.
- agree about the lecture Shri Krishna gives Indra after he repents, and especially happy your parents BOTH found it engaging and worth discussing... that's gotta be rare, that they like the same thing 😆
-The Brahma thing did last a year, and for him it was a about a minute.

All in all another really fun comprehensive entry, hardly had anything to add (by my standards 😆)... can't wait for the next one!!

Yes, I get what you mean. But really, all of this happening in the first place was because of Krishna leela. It was a part of a bigger plan and so God did control it. I really liked that they included Saraswati Mata in it. But beyond that I didn't watch much of JSK. The Janmashtami episode, a few episodes of Dhriti here and there and all of the episodes of Meghan.

Promised Lola I'd join you all in here so...I'm here!! 😆 So far I've only read up to Janu's December 16th entry because I'm now watching those epis myself. I'm watching the serial for the first time in its entirety (or at least I'm planning to!😆) so didn't want to go ahead of myself and ruin the experience. 😳

I'm watching the vids that some very kind soul uploaded onto dailymotion (I'm so grateful to that person! 🤗)...I agree that the quality is not great but it's not all that bad. I've gotten used to it!

I have just finished watching part 46 & 47, which like Janu described in her post, is where Vasudevji & Devaki Ma are put into jail again and Gargacharya is summoned to the palace only to be insulted by Kans!

The things that stood out for me most in those epis were the Jabse Hua Re song, I love the song, esp. the following lines "ek sukh ke peeche mujhe har dukh hai swikar" and Vasudevji's expression throughout that whole scene! ❤️

Can't help listening to the song again and again! 😳 (Thank you to Lola for uploading the full song! 🤗)

I also love Devaki Ma & Vasudevji's interaction in the kaaragaar and how she's busy lamenting her fate while he's trying to tell her such important news! 😆 I totally love the part where she faints saying "Krishna, Krishna" after learning the truth! Great acting there! 👏

When Gargacharya is summoned to the mahal, I was like...what is Kans up to now?And when he reached the palace and was made to wait but did do patiently anyways, that scene was nicee...in the end I love how Gargacharya chastises Kans and he couldn't even say a word back! It was so funny! 🤣 One thing I've notice is that Kans is always surrounded by very knowledgeable/intelligent people...I mean in terms of political strategies and warfare n stuff like that. Just goes to show that knowledge is not everything, it only benefits you when it's put to good use. 😉

Well that's about it for now! I'm planning to watch parts 48-50 later today, so I'll be back! 😃 And Janu, I'll def. continue to read your diary entries and comment as I progress! 😛

Yayyyyyy welcome aboard Vedo 🤗 And double yayyyy, you're at my favorite part!!! First off great idea of not reading ahead, keeps the suspense going 😉😆

And I also loveeee their performances in that return to prison scene, very very natural and realistic and absorbing 👏
Most welcome for the upload, Jabse Hua Re has one of the sweetest melodies I've ever heard and the love and devotion-filled expressions make it even sweeter 😍 It's prob one of my top 5 most frequently heard songs from the show, I really wish there was an instrumental of it too that would be so lovely!!! And the ending of their little breaking news scene is just wonderful, has a very angelic feel to it cuz of the chorus in the background... love it love it love it 😍

And very very good point regarding the knowledge that Kans had access to in various fields, we see that particularly with the smarty Chitrasen dude he sends to invite Gargacharya... if you remember back to the episode with Kans's wedding, it's this same guy who skillfully persuaded Ugrasen and his rightfully wary ministers that an alliance with Jarasandh would be a good thing. Had Kans chosen the right direction for them to use their talents in, things could have been so different.

As far as Garg himself, he is a treasury of wisdom in every scene he's featured in... really enjoy watching him onscreen because of that confidence and grace and moreover the lessons that he conveys. Gotta love his wit that leaves Kans speechless and the way they emphasize the sound of his footsteps haunting him the as he leaves 😆

This is probably a good time to remind everyone about the existence of this thread - whoever's watching SK and would like to discuss the various lessons that Maharishi Garg teaches throughout the series, please join us here: https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/indian-mythology/1535147/bhakti-lessons-from-maharishigarg-rs-shrikrishna
We are currently on the one where he tells the reason of Balram's transfer to Rohini's womb, and hit on two interesting topics: the predictability of a divine incarnation's life (by the likes of Valmiki and Garg), and the purpose of Balram's incarnation given his sometimes counterproductive behavior during Mahabharat. However you may join in discussing any scene of his as they are all rich with discussion material.

Now that my advertisement's 30 seconds are up 😆 Thank you soooo much for joining us Vedo 🤗 That was an awesome and very enjoyable first entry, looking forward to more and more!!! You can even backtrack and share any noteworthy observations/opinions from the previous episodes, if you thought there were any... can't wait

Wow Vedo, you're very far ahead! Great! I'm still at part 17. Loved listening to Vasudev's dialouges! It was wonderful how he supported his dharma by logically explaining everything to Akrur! And then he was concerned that his word would be false instead of the fact that he was under guard. He was such a Satyavadi! Even his father told of his greatness to Uddhav.

Guys, we're officially finished with the Swapnil epis in the DVDs!🥺 He did amazingly well in the Kalyavan episode, the way he made Kalyavan chase him all over Mathura and them laughingly took him into the cave....will miss him!😭
@Lola,
You're right that the editing between the Kalyavan and Dwaraka Nirmaan epis was terrible. Even my dad did not understand how Krishna "grew up overnight" after killling Kalyavan. One minute he was Swapnil killing Kalyavan, and the next he was SDB returning home after killing Kalyavan. He was like...."what???" For a minute he thought Jarasandh and his army had been lounging outside Mathura for years.🤪
I told him about how Swapnil did the original Dwaraka Nirmaan and also the Varanavat scenes, and he said he wanted to watch those vids online sometimes because he wants his money's worth for spending so much on the DVDs, and it's not fair that he was cheated out of the original.🤔 Believe me, my dad is very particular about this kind of stuff.😆
Just saying though....the editors should have at least kept the original Dwaraka Nirmaan epi with Swapnil if not the Varanavat scene, because it really ruined the sequence of the story in the DVDs....literally a few days passed between Kalyavan Vadh and Dwaraka Nirmaan, so it did not make sense to show the Swapnil-SDB transition there...they could have done it after Dwaraka Nirmaan, and given a note how a few years passed so Krishna grew up. SDB's entrance would have made more sense there.
