Complaint filed against Ranbir Kapoor for vaping scene in 'The Ba***ds Of Bollywood'

Aryan Khan's much-anticipated directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, has already made headlines for its bold concept and star-studded cameos. However, just days after the show’s release on Netflix, a scene featuring Ranbir Kapoor has sparked major controversy.

In the series, Kapoor appears in a cameo role where he is seen using a vape (e-cigarette). The absence of any statutory warning or disclaimer during the scene has now become the subject of a formal complaint. According to a report by India Today, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken note of the issue and has asked the Mumbai Police to file a case against both Ranbir Kapoor and the producers of the Netflix series.

The complaint was filed by Vinay Joshi, who alleged that the portrayal of vaping without any cautionary message violates public interest and may influence young viewers negatively. The NHRC has reportedly issued a notice to the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, urging the ministry to look into the matter and ensure such content is monitored more strictly.

Joshi emphasized that the lack of a disclaimer not only goes against broadcasting norms but could also be interpreted as indirect promotion of vaping, which is especially concerning given the popularity of both the actor and the platform. The complainant has requested that strong action be taken to set a precedent and curb similar content in the future.

The development has led to a wave of reactions online, with opinions divided. While some viewers argue that artistic freedom should be protected, others believe public figures and streaming platforms carry a responsibility to avoid glamorizing smoking or vaping, especially in an era where digital content reaches younger audiences instantly.
