Hmmm talking about playback singers trained in classical music?

The names you mentioned like Kunal Ganjawala and Shreya Ghosal are minions compared to the list I can give you:

Classically untrained singers:
Kishore Kumar
Kumar Sanu
Geeta Dutt (One who held Lata in check for more than a decade)
S. P Balasubramaniam
Hemanta Kumar Mukherjee
Mukesh ( I dont know 100% but I think so)

For these talent contests I don't stress on singers with classical background. I don't want to listen contestants with aalaaps all the time. There are many who couldn't afford classical training but have gifted voice like Prashant.

The most important thing for me is connection with the audience along with beautiful renditions.

I would give a simple example. Karunya was the most talented singer in II-2. His classical background was intact and he sang exceptionally. Amey was equally good and now the difference between the two was Amey could connect with audience all the time whereas there were times when Karunya simply sang a brilliant song but there was so connection with the audience. Classical base or not, gifted talent touches everyone.

totally agree there ! Classical training or not, connection is what matters. But then again connection is a very personal thing. A lot of Amey's songs didn't touch me as much as Karunya's and a lot of Karunya's songs didnt touch me as much as his cousin's Hemachandra.

But then again, to claim that Classical music/training is bad is really wrong. There is def. a help to having classical training or knowledge. However, considering this is Indian Idol and not a judge based show, the connection is what matters.

Coming back to Prashant, that wasn't his song. He could be a pandit in classical music and still not be able to do justice to it.

I concur. Everything boils down to personal choice. That way we cannot be critical of anyone because some will like Suhit for being a rockstar, some like Anikta for her attitude. We cannot blame junta for voting out anyone because we are part of junta and we can see how much all of us differ😃. I have seen one thing that if a contestant sings exceptionaly well the junta never votes him/her out that time.

well, even if people don't have formal training the names of legendary singers Bigyo took, always did hrs of Riyaz..

u may not have a guruji but u constantly innovate urself thru new techniques and Riyaaz ....

Classical training whether at home or under a guruji helps u to hit right notes in all types of songs...
And after that if u can connect with the audience with ur music then u've hit the bulls eye !!! 😃
