| NC Karunya from Hyderabad is just 19 years old. But, he has already made it to the final three in the Indian Idol talent search. A south Indian who sings flawlessly in Punjabi, this contestant is very popular with the audiences.
He feels his best performance was the song "Kawa Kawa" from Monsoon Wedding.
So far the only South Indian to make it to this stage in the Indian Idol talent search, N C Karunya chances are pretty good. Audiences love his Abhishek Bachchan looks and voice.
He's been singing since he was three years old and has the full support of his parents. 'My parents live in my dream world. They have seen me wanting to be a singer and have done all they could to help me attain my goal, ' says Karunya.
His favorite artists are Kishore Kumar, Mohd. Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, P Sushila, and Ghantasaala.
Before Amey Date was voted out, Karunya thought of him as his biggest threat. "My toughest contender would be Amey because he is a good singer & has experience behind him. He has the X factor & the mass appeal he has a great fan following," he is reported to have said.
And what about his strengths? Says Karunya, "Something that I have & he (Amey) doesn't is that though he is a very good singer and has an excellent voice, that Marathi accent in his voice affects his singing. Finally the nation's hot favorite Sandeep Acharya has won the battle and has become the Indian Idol 2 on the grand finale took place last Saturday night on 22nd April. Kajol was the celebrity judge with Anu Malik, Farah Khan and Sonu Nigam. Alisha Chinoy and Ishaa Koppikar. They gave their heart-hitting performances on their popular numbers along with Karunya and Sandeep.
With the announcement of the winner, the Indian Idol stage banged with so much thrill and excitement like never before. The show had never ever been so noisy. This grand finale would be remembered since it was laced with the astounding and mind boggling performances by the first Indian Idol Abhijeet Sawant, pop queen Alisha Chinoy on 'Kajra Re' and the breath-arresting Ishaa Koppikar on 'Khallas'. The real chill of the night was the Bollywood Diva - Kajol who was the special judge of the event and enjoying every bit of the show. Also it was her first screen appearance after her break from the industry.
Karunya and Sandeep specially rendered the smashit 'Subhanallah' live on stage from her upcoming movie 'Fanaa' and this live performance was coached by none other than the composers' duo Jatin-Lalit. The show became more magical when the Top 12 came back on stage and crooned various numbers together. Sandeep was overjoyed at his crowning and was on cloud nine. The fans were present to support him at the show and his whole family with friends danced when he was announced the winner.
He is the one finalist who had huge fan following due to his sweet voice, innocent face, humble way of talking and suave style. "I cannot get over the fact that I am the chosen one. I think it will take a few days for the feeling to sink in that I am the country's Agla Indian Idol. I am very happy to see the kind of love and support that I have been getting from the entire nation especially from Bikaner. I cannot figure out where to begin my new life from. So I am going to take each moment as it comes and enjoy and savour the unforgettable moments that this stage gave me", exclaimed an ecstatic Sandeep Acharya.
He won rupees one crore contract with Sony, an album contract with Sony BMG, a shinning new Maruti Baleno car, Visa Card worth Rs. 3 lakhs and an Indian Idol memento 'A Guitar'. Amongst these lavish prizes, Sandeep considers the album contract the best one. "It will be my own album - an album with only my songs on it", expressed the joyous man of the night.
Sandeep Acharya - the guy with utter similarity of Udit Narayan not only with voice but also with the look was presented all the prizes by none other than the three judges - Anu Malik, Farah Khan and Sonu Nigam. And the mammoth prize of one crore was presented by Kajol. Farah was looking very happy while seeing her favorite winning the title of Indian Idol 2.
While she presented the keys of the car to him, she did a short dance jiggle on the stage. "He is truly a deserving candidate. Sandeep has been my favourite since the time I have started noticing his entire makeover and makeover not only in terms of physical appearance but also his personality. This boy has truly come a long way from his long kurta and oiled hair days. He is now a complete Rock Star on stage", uttered happy Farah Khan.
Karunya, the runner up, spread the joy and genuine smile on his face when Sandeep was announced the winner. "I had been preparing myself for this blow for the past three days, as I had been the witness of Sandeep's fans spread all over the country. His fan-following is huge! I am a little disappointed at the loss of the title since it was the main motive due to which I had participated but I know all is not lost. I realise the fact that I have always been appreciated by all the judges and my fans for my singing. I was the only contestant who had never received any negative feedback so that is something that I am going to cherish for my entire life. There are a lot of people out there who consider me the Indian Idol so where is the reason to feel upset about?" commented the 19-year old Karunya.

After winning the title of Agla Indian Idol, Sandeep was asked to sing that special song which was specially composed and written for Indian Idol 2. And that was 'Jaana Hai Mujhko'. When Sonu Nigam presented him the trophy, he simply took him in his arms and threw to upwards in the air with lot of joys and happiness. Aman Verma took Sandeep to his car and he sat inside and enjoyed the moment with utter happiness. Karunya was also presented Rs. 3 lakhs' visa card. So now just get ready to hear your new Indian Idol in albums and playback singing in Hindi films.
