A day after the body of Neha Kakkar, a 19-year-old college girl, was found at the busy Janakpuri District Centre, her parents are refuting the police's claim that it was either a suicide or an accidental fall.

Initial investigations have revealed that Neha died on Saturday evening from a fall from the sixth floor of the Kirti Shikar building. Her parents, however, alleged that she had been sexually assaulted and then pushed down from the building. They said some of her clothes had been removed and there were scratches all over her body.

"Someone had physically assaulted her," said Neha's father C.L. Kakkar at his house in A Block, Janakpuri.

The police are awaiting the postmortem report to register a case.

Neha, a first-year student of BA psychology at the Jesus and Mary College, was a national-level badminton player and an IAS aspirant. She had left her house on Saturday evening to attend coaching classes for the civil services examination at the Rao Study Circle on Barakhamba Road.

A while later when a family member called her on the cellphone, she said she was going to meet a friend at the district centre before the class.

According to eyewitnesses, she was sitting alone on the sixth floor of the building around 6.20 p.m. Her body was found at 7.10 p.m. The police said she might have died around 6.30 p.m.
