Sonu Kakkar shot to fame with her number 'Babuji...', but now this former bhajan singer says she's set her sights firmly on Bollywood.

Singer Sonu Kakkar (of 'Babuji zara dheere' fame) is enjoying popularity after being featured in Sandeep Chowta's music video 'Mallika, I Hate You', with the composer and Icelandic model Sigga.

The pop singer claims that she is getting feelers from film producers. Not dismissing the thought of acting, she reveals, "If the role is exciting, I may do films though singing will remain my passion."

She says of her music video stint, "Sandeep, who has also directed the video, insisted that I feature in it. He was patient with my blunders. Now I am much confident." Interestingly, though she shares a "rocking rapport" with Chowta today, he, as judge, had rejected her in the 'VIVA' (Channel [V]) pop-singer contest.

Sonu reflects, "He eliminated me because he felt that I did not 'jell' with the band. But he did find my voice 'unique' and promised me a break in the future." Sonu eventually sang Sandeep's chartbuster 'Babuji' ('Dum') filmed on Yana Gupta.

Why has Kakkar been discreet about her being a popular bhajan-singer too? "Not really, I am proud that my voice is versatile enough to sing bhajans. It's just that after the success of 'Babuji' I have sung more pop numbers. I have recorded bhajan albums and have sung at Mata Jaagran gatherings for over a decade."

Any reason why she prefers to record mostly for Chowta? Sonu disagrees, "It's a misconception. I have recorded numbers with composers Anand Raj Anand and Sandesh Shandilya too." Recently Sonu has recorded a qawwali 'O Sikander' with composer Shamir Tandon for Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Corporate' filmed on Payal Rohatgi.

"Both Madhur and Payal feel that this number will be a 'rock buster'," insists Kakkar, who is making music with her Sufi numbers too.
