They very well could have passed off for a bunch of fun-loving youngsters you come across at your nearest mall or coffee-shop. Still better, they could have been those friendly neighbourhood boys you see every other day on your way home.
Karunya and Sandeep Acharya, the finalists for Indian Idol, though celebrities that half of India vouch for, are yet to be dazzled by the euphoria. Simple and confident, the two speak on how they feel at being almost at the pinnacle of the show, to what they think about taking up acting as a profession.
"Acting, a complete no no," chorused the two. "Humne enough acting already kiya hai," adds Sandeep on a lighter note, grinning. And Karunya vehemently agrees to his comrade.
Well! It's been comradeship. Being together through thick and thin, for a span of five months have made the two bond, rather than view each other as the competitor.
"We do not feel insecure or threatened by each other, infact we enjoy each others company," Karunya added. And that's exactly that comes across when you see the two together.
Karunya is all spunk when he speaks about his musical journey with Indian Idol.
"It feels great that we are the top two finalists. But I must say we are sad that after the show, we are on our own. We will miss the show and all the fun we are having," says he.
Sandeep, had something to add, "In the last five months I have learnt so much that it is difficult for me to actually put them in words. I will miss everybody who made it possible for us to be here.''
Just a few more days left for the grand finale, the two are enjoying every minute of their last days at the show. "We are not bothered about who wins. We don't spend our time worrying about it. We are just enjoying our last days at the show.''
It's Kishore Kumar, P. Susheela and Janiki who have inspired Karunya as a singer. And its Udit Narayan, Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar that Sandeep looks up to. "I am deep-rooted in classical music and can blend myself to sing anything," said Karunya. Ghazals, folksongs and Hindustani classical are Sandeep's forte.
What about the songs that they have planned for their forthcoming albums? "It's not like we have planned for any album as such. It will be like, whoever wins the title will sing the song by Sandeep Chowta, which will be telecasted on the July episode in the show," answered Karunya.
The two prodigies, are grateful for the platform the show had given them, "The channel has given us the best possible exposure. We are grateful for such an opportunity.''
On what the future holds, Karunya quipped, "I would like to be know as an International star, and bring out albums with some real good music." While Sandeep feels, "I will like too to make it big, and sing not just for Hindi but Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and every other Indian language.''
What are their views on the TRP ratings and the controversies? "We completely believe the format. It's what the public feels that matters and the public knows to define themselves and we have no complaints," said the two before signing off the typical Idol Style.
