Note:

I know she has a very small part comparably in this song. It is mostly Udit Narayan. Nonetheless, this was her debut song and she did receive some praise for it as she was offered more work afterwards.

Now how should the fact that she didn't sing as much be graded? Well, the only rule is judge her singing and not the song. So, as far as how much she sang, you can grade it as you like. If you think it shouldn't matter, don't take away points from her, if you think she should be graded negatively for it, take points away. It's up to you.

I dunno how to do this. She had a very small role in this song. But from what I heard, she was quite melodious and took you to a far-off place. I give her an 8.

The way she started the song was melodious. But the lines were repetitive without much scope to judge how she fared overall. Nevertheless, I would still rate her 7 on this one.

First of all my sincere respect to Mahalaxmi ji, all her fans, and all those that have trained her in the past and made her who she is today. I do not mean to offend anyone with my ratings. And honestly I am no one to rate her, yet since this is a fun game I will do so.

This one is a tough one as Udit ji was the one who dominated most of the song. I don't even know if its fair nominating Mahalaxmi ji for this song. Yet I will do so. From what I've heard of her voice, she sung it very well and nicely. However, the lines were pretty much repetitive, and you couldn't really get much feel of the sargam, taal, and raag. Although she def had all three qualities from the lines she did sing.

Overall I'd give her a 6. (Sorry when it comes to ratings, I'm pretty strict)! 😆

I thought she sang brilliantly. It is not easy to sing such short lines so confidently, because each standing note, each ending note is prominent. The singer must have a strong grasp of sur to render the lines so strongly.

And indeed, Mahalaxmi has done a fabulous job with all the inflexions she has to perform. All the inflexions are well rounded - nowhere does she go staccato and neither is she flat.

Certainly better than the run-of-the-mill, predictable Bollywood melodies where singers have to sing comfortable note sequences. Of course, there was little range in terms of pitch or expression required, since the notes were mostly mid to high and the words were the same. So more would need to be done to score higher on those fronts. Similarly, the high notes did not sound as distinct as I would have liked. Still, an amazing debut. So I'll give her a 7!

Of course, the real stars of this song are A R Rahman, Gulzar and Udit Narayan. Wah wah wah!

Narayan Narayan!

I loved it!!!though her lines r minimal yet I remember her voice created the pathos which was essential in the movie (situationwise) ..... she poured her soul into the song ....one of the finest compositions of AR Rahman !!!!!...only sometimes I feel she uses falsetto at higher notes....over all a very good attempt...
I'll giver her a 8....

Lol. I think my harsh ratings come from all the negative criticism I've gotten for my own singing! 😕

I also think 6 is too harsh... You're saying this is almost as good as average Bollywood singing! But just listen to that feel, those smooth transitions, those ending notes - there's nothing average there!

But considering the maximum mark on your grading scale is 9 (coz you never give 10's), I guess it's fair enough...
