And kuhu kuhu reminded me of Akele Hum Akele Tum - what a touching title song sung beautifully by Udit Narayan and Aditya Narayan...

Yaadein is a great album too! The title track really is awesome and Chamaktin Shaam and Jab Dil Mile are catchy too!

All these albums show the various genres upon which Anu Malik has command on. He is a versatile Music Director. He should be given more scope for improvement and creativity.

Given the right opportunity, he can create wonders, we all have seen that happening.

Awards are definitely still an important criteria. Maybe not THE most, but it's still relevant.

Himesh is a filmfare playback singer of the year. Thus, he has already proven he is a great singer.

Okay fine then you have to agree that Mohit is also a great singer.

I didn't say you had to agree that Himesh was a great singer. Obviously that would be just your own opinion. But I meant in general, overall, with respect to history, he is a great singer because of his accomplishments. I would say the same for Mohit. He will be remembered as a great singer in this era. That is overall.

But just to me, I'd say he is a good singer. I respect him more now that he won playback singer of the year award thats for sure though. He has earned the respect automatically from me by winning such a prestigious award.

According to me getting an award is not that important criteria, but for what song does the singer gets an award is more important, mohit is new & he is good singer i dont feel he is great yet. He still has a long way to go to prove his greatness, a singers consistency is more important. I can term Sonu as a great singer more bcoz of his consistensy & quality singing.
Sometimes getting an award also depends on factors like how good or popular the other nominations are. Mohit got award for masakali more because of the popularity & uniqueness of the song. If you look at all the 5 nominations you too will feel masakali should get an award as compared to the others overall. Himesh in his initial days was a superhit singer everyone liked his songs but now its all opposite.
(I know this is anu appreciation topic, but I am jst giving my POV on this issue)

I completely forgot about Asoka - Anu Malik always lists this album as his best work that went unnoticed because of the failure of the film!

Asoka really brought a lot of praise for Anu. Music reviewer Joginder Tuteja said in this review that Asoka is the best album since Dil Se! And Bollywood site bollywhat lists Asoka as the 2nd best Bollywood album of all time after Dil Se! The film was a flop and Anu got little recognition in terms of awards, but as a musical score, it is truly a masterpiece...

San Sanana - awesome melody and arrangements. Sung by Alka Yagnik (in top form) with Hema Sardesai

Roshni Se - haunting number, which was far ahead of its times in terms of orchestration. Sung by Abhijeet (an Anu favourite) and Alka Yagnik

O Re Kanchi - perhaps Shaan's first truly A-list song in Bollywood, where he got to sing for SRK the superstar.

My all time current favorite Anu Malik composition has to be refugee, OK the film was a commercial disaster but some of its songs-panchee nadiyaan, aisa lagta hai, taal pe jab yeh zindagaani chale, mere humsafar etc are very sweet and melodious songs which give you a sukoon.

Yaadein also had one of the best title tracks sung by hariharan, chandaa taare by sukhwinder and I actually liked chanmakti shaam hai by sonu nigam, it was a peppy track.

Too bad this film too did not do well at the BO.

^^ I'd have to agree with you, cosworthkid. Refugee is a masterpiece and my favourite Anu Malik album. It had everything, melody, orchestration, singing.... And Anu was working with his favourite colleagues: Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik as lead singers, Javed Akhtar as lyricist and J P Dutta as director. An album that truly deserved the National Award!
