SPECIAL DAY: Parthiv Gohil and Manasi Parekh at their engagement ceremony
Actress-singer Manasi Parekh played the yellow-haired Jo in Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi (MTV) and Tania in Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai (Sony). A singer, acting happened after she took part in the MTV talent hunt for Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi.
"I thought as it was for MTV there will be lots of singing to do but I found myself acting instead," she says. Her fianc Parthiv Gohil is also a singer. "Music is what brought us together," say the couple as they talk about their relationship...
The first meeting
Manasi: It was at the Sa Re Ga Ma show on Zee's Alpha Gujarati channel in 2000. Parthiv was the anchor and I was a participant. I made it to the semi-finals. I referred to him as Parthiv uncle! At that time I was in school so anyone older to me was an uncle.
Parthiv: I later told her I am not all that old; just a few years older to you so you need not call me uncle.
About six months later…
Manasi: After the show, we never met. Then out of the blue, six months later I received a call from him. He had managed to get my number.
He was performing at a show and wondered if I could sing. As it was during my exams, I said no.
Parthiv: I thought of her as she was extremely enthusiastic about singing.
Music concerts served as the meeting ground…
Manasi: It was not a case of love at first sight. I guess it grew dheere dheere. Both of us kept bumping into each other often at music shows and we would discuss music.
Parthiv: It was only music that made our conversation but somewhere down the line it all happened gradually.
Popping the question…
Manasi: It was me who made the first move and popped the question. Parthiv was completely taken aback. He was shocked. Here I was telling him he was the man. He thought I was a nave, young girl who had been smitten by him. But I told him he was the man for me.
Parthiv: Yes, I was taken by surprise when Manasi told me. I told her she was young but she said, "What is the point of waiting when we have made up our minds."
The family welcomed it…
Manasi: When I took him to meet my family, they were open to the idea. Moreover, Parthiv and I come from a common Gujarati background. They didn't mind that I wanted to act.
Parthiv: I am from Bhavnagar and Manasi's grandmother's side is also there. So there was a lot of common elements.
The engagement was a small affair…
Manasi: We got engaged in February this year and it was a family affair. As it was just prior to the exams most of my friends could not make it and my co-stars from Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi were busy shooting! I was the yellow-haired bride as I was still shooting for the show then.
Parthiv: I had my family down from Bhavnagar and it was a close-knit affair.
Marriage is in the distant future...
Manasi: We have not yet sat down and decided about when we will get married. I know I will, but there is no plan at the moment. I have yet to establish myself as a singer and actress. I have just completed my graduation from St Xavier's College.
Parthiv: At the moment we are concentrating on our professional lives.

Manasi: What I like most about Parthiv is that even though he came from a small town Bhavnagar, he nursed his dream to make a mark in the music world in Mumbai.
Parthiv: Manasi is far mature for her age. She reads my mind and she understands me totally.
