The missing picture

* yesterday's episode was fun but this scene struck out to me the most.

The mystery of the frame --

Why are we hearing melancholic music during the scene? Why is there an empty photo frame on the table among the pictures? Why does Aryan look so sad when he looks at it? What was there earlier? Was it always empty? Did it a contain a photo of his father? His old lover? Himself? Why is there an empty frame just sitting there? What was it that he didn't want to see? At the same time, the ghost of the picture still remains that he does not have the heart to throw away the frame....

A couple photo

His eyes flick to the newspaper and he sees his wedding photo. There is no happiness, no satisfaction but a sort of still sadness. Does he feel sad knowing that his marriage is a sham? Is that what troubles him?

In secret

Why does he have to close the blinds and not let anyone see what he is doing? What is he afraid that people will see? Why is he taking this photo to put in the frame? There was professional photographer -- surely, there were wedding photos. Why not choose one of those? Why does he have to quietly copy the picture from the newspaper and cut it out from the prying eyes of others? What does this newspaper photo mean to him?

In every corner

There is a quiet moment as he gently puts in the photo within the frame. However, it is not a happy face but a sad introspective expression. What is he thinking? What is he feeling? What did it cost to put the photo of Imlie and himself? Did he not yell at her that she is taking over every corner of his life? Why did he then willingly choose to put their picture in the frame?

Incomplete vs complete

And now, the table moves to show an expression of family, fullness. Any passerby would see a table full of love. What would have they thought earlier as they looked at the table?

But still, the question remains -- why was there an empty photo frame among the pictures? What did it represent? What do you think friends? What were you thoughts on the scene?

I don't wanna think anything about that empty photo frame🤓

Still I will go with the idea of *something related to his father* for safe side

sunshine_nino -- I was really struck by the melancholic music they used there -- not sure what the CVs are trying to foreshadow but it seems like it should be something important to Aryan. The dad is dead right? At least thats what we have been told. Gah, so many feels when we are not even sure what to make of the scene.

I had the same questions however, unlike me, I didn’t notice the music at the time. I guess all those questions were whizzing around my head for me to notice but yeah why keep an empty photo frame in the first place🤔

pinkorchid -- I happen to love that BGM and so I always pay attention when it is on. there is something quiet and melacholic about it and the way the creatives use it in scenes to convey emotion -- gah! so I was really struck by the sadness behind that photo frame. I feel bad for Aryan even though I have no idea why -- the combination of expressions, body language and music tells you that this isn't some random photo frame. the question is what exactly is it?

And I thought I was the only one who thought about this. Dear Mango you are truly my soulmate. Even I thought the empty frame, the choice of music for this scene was all melancholic. The first thought was like he dnt wanna show others that he cares for Imlie but then the bg music made me think that this more than that. They could use comedy music where he wants to hide like the way he was talking with the photo Imlie but indeed that frame did hold something before I guess🥱

Honestly I didn't give it much of a thought before your post.

The empty frame seems it was something he wants to cut out from life but still can't let it go fully...

Untill now, when he's ready to supress that pain with new memories.

😘 -- like you said, if it was just to show others that he cares for Imlie, then it would have been more funny music. instead, everything including the lighting and expressions show that he is using their photo as a way to soothe his heart -- it is not for others to see but for himself. so it makes you wonder why that missing picture makes his heart ache? why does he hold on to the frame but got rid of the photo? and when he was fighting Imlie earlier, why is he now letting her presence in photo to take away some of that sadness? gah, the feels!!!!!

I know! what struck me about the scene is a kind of numb sadness. not the type where you weep but the sort of sad melancholy that feels like a stone in your heart -- you can neither remove but neither can you ignore. it is there hidden away but weighing you down. those eyes and expressions -- definitely so much was conveyed and so much was not!
