The Maryada Purshotom syndrome of ITV

I am trying to catch up n randomly watching initial episodes. I know makers did the unforgivable with Malini’s character when she drugged Adi and then framed Imli n SK. And then tried killing Imlie multiple times. But when I watch episodes like 81 where both Adilie are sick from going in rain n Malini is taking care of them both and Aditya is all over her like Mrs Tripathi. I feel nauseous. I can even get that Imlie is a teenager with a crush for the first adult handsome strong guy in her life with whom she has been forcefully married to. Who is giving her mixed signals all the time. Is it crime to crush on someone unattainable in your teens. Heck no! But Aditya is definitely playing with both women. Its sickening. How can this character even question Imlie n Aryaan ? I just cannot get over the hypocrisy. Malini actually even kissed imlie lovingly after she drank the kardha. Omg! I was never expecting to feel bad for a rapist but i do in this episode. Makers what have u done? Why destroy a perfectly good independent kind female character to whitewash a hypocrite, bigamist, egotistic male character just because he has to be the male lead . Imlie is so young that i cannot even recognize todays imlie. So much this girl must have been through to become the mature, disbelieving , disillusioned girl she is today. As ASR told Aditya Imlie is not a butterfly. She is a survivor.

ITV cannot commit to full blown dickheaded male leads. They would try to defend the actions of the man by making everyone around him so trashy that it will be a case of being a black duck amongst a bunch of crows. Just to justify Aditya falling for a 18 yr old who is essentially his ward they ruined the only female character who was truthfully wronged. Now ppl may say they ruined Aditya to uplift Aryaan as the male lead. Then again i would say if so its by the same urge to create a Maryada Purushottam Ram avatar again and again. Its a sickness to not commit to the ideology that maybe women characters do not need to be validated by male characters to be empowered. To have their own agency and maybe to even find love in another man after a bad traumatic toxic child marriage.

The fluff lover in me loves the tashan and beauty that is ASR. I mean its a guilty pleasure like keeping up with kardashians. But from a story perspective the most wronged character in the show is Malini. Wronged by her parents, sister, husband, in laws and even her makers. Go figure!

Yes there you said it. One of the sane-est posts I've read around about the past track.

Though i didn't follow this show religiously before and ran too fast in opposite direction when it slapped me on the face.

Everytime I watched it came across almost like you've penned.

Exactly, Imlie is constantly being conditioned and groomed as a bride for Aditya. It reminds me of Courtney Stodden- Dough Hutchinson. Guys who think Adilie were cute and organic need to google about it. A naive 16yr old being married off to a 51 year old powerful rich man. Constantly being conditioned, groomed into being a trophy wife, criticized and bullied as being trashy gold digger even being told to kill herself by women more powerful n older then her and all the while fighting an identity crisis as primal as her gender identity. Guys, Just stop! Don't defend the indefensible.

Imlie never was never right...but she is portrayed as the mahanta ki Devi...she is the lead...so to make her the goddess off Starplus ...Malini needed to suffer and turn evil... Indeed she did things hurtful but here is a woman abandoned and heart broken by the ppl so loved / trusted the most...who deliberately gave her that pain..which she didn’t deserved....so In name of drama she was turned in to a obsessed woman...

Good point well made. When I read the previous story on the forum. I felt sick to my stomach and I was like I am glad Imlie is outta of his clutches. But the CVS must behave realized how toxic he was and are now using that to their advantage by creating a parallel in aryan. Stroke of genius.

Again, the blame is being put on another female character. Why not think that Imlie was as much of a victim as Malini? In my opinion the blame lies only at Aditya's foot. Aditya is the more mature , world weary, so called "wasoolon wala honest journalist". He is such a gem that he couldn't make up his mind between two women, never could stand wholly behind either. The makers didn't turn Malini evil to make Imlie the Goddess. But because they needed to justify Imlie's devotion to her marriage, sanskaar, parivar basically to be "sarvagun sampan bahu" for Tripathi's and their son.

They continue to do this even now when Malini is out of the equation. Plus now they will add Rathore's in equation. so instead of being bahu to one family she will now be sarvgun sampan bahu for two clans. Imlie still doesn't think without being influenced by a male voice, be it Aditya or Aryaan. Just like the Goddess Sita Imlie is such a bhakt of. Sita maiyya's whole life was spent being either consort, captive or cast off of the men in her life. People forget the she was a strong willed woman who was an opinionated daughter, noble queen , strong adversary to Ravan and a single mother of rambunctious twin boys in a jungle. (if nothing else, only the last feat itself deserves 2 aarti a day for Sita maiyya in my opinion). Ram would not have been called Maryada Purshovttam if it wasn't for Sita's strong devotion and dignity in face of her bondage.

Makers are still trying to create the same "Perfect man" in Aryaan. Making us viewers think that Imlie needs to prove herself to be by his side. She needs to save his family and him from evil aunties, later from evil men and evil ex-GFs. Invariably , some other female character would come in to make Imlie battle for her rights to be with her all powerful, devoted, 1 in a million husband.

If u look at the fandoms for all ITV shows, one thing u will find in common. The shows are built around female characters wanting to set examples in society, them doing most of the heroics but the fans will be more ga-ga over the male leads. Remember when Mihir Virani died? or popularity of Mr.Bajaj or popularity of Asad Ahmad khan or previous ASR "Arnav singh Raizada". Even Anupama needs a Anuj in her life to finally move on (atleast the bengali version was like that..all her miseries were solved by anuj's money)

Its because Makers make the male characters to be so grand and all powerful, and nothing is their fault. Its all the women in their lives that are evil and they need protection.

I agree with ur points👍🏼Well made👏

Personally i didnt watch the show from the beginning n it was do to the fact she was forced to marry at such a young age when all she wanted was to study further...no one once asked her what she wanted or how she felt...

Anyway from what i know she is a broken soul who will heal with time... cant say for other characters as i didnt watch the show so dont know alot...😊

But love what u wrote❤

I have seen so many clips of Malini from the earlier tracks and my god are these two different people. From having self respect, confidence and a literal heart of gold how far was she ruined?

I thought Malini was a little too good to be true kind of character from what I heard. I will admit that your post made me go watch the episode and I see a woman independent and strong. I see the woman that was a professor in a college with a stable mind and charming smile.

Its heart breaking when I see the representation she is today (from the start of ASR's track)

She was not meant to be ruined to this extent if we are to see the original. But she was because when the cheating was outed there was overwhelming amounts of sympathy from the audience for Malini. Makers had no way out but to ruin her.

I did not see the initial episodes but I have always felt that she was a victim of circumstances generated by someone who did not know what they wanted.

No woman would be happy to hear that a man they loved for 7 years would go and get married to someone else even if it was forcefully, or that person never came clean about the situation. Again probably he tried but maybe not hard enough.

In the truest sense she should have moved on but of course her mom and those around her did not let her either.

I think the writers did not realize what they were in for or how their audience would react to these scenarios.

Oh well, hopefully things progress in a better way going forward..
