How I wanted Imlie to react today after Aditya’s comment:
Big Caveat: I am not 19 and no longer have patience to nurse a broken heart or jerks like AKT.
There is he goes again, belittling me and my achievements, my stories/reports are not just page 3 fluff.
Does he not understand that I am new, I have just started my career as a journalist. I am not going to be writing just about the economic and fiscal policies or the internal terrorism that plagues this country at this juncture. I need to find my niche and that does not happen overnight.
I loved my first report about working women and how they are under-represented in the country. He just thought about white collared educated women, but it was me who thought about everyone from maids to small tea shop workers, whether they are uneducated or undereducated, NOT him.
He did not want to interview that actress but she was a treasure trove of knowledge not an airhead. But he thought it was ok to belittle someone for their likes and dislikes just because it does not match his interests.
Why, oh why did I think he was someone special, when to him I am ordinary.
He can assassinate my character because his “best friend” said so.
Why can’t my career growth be because of my work and ethics?
Why can’t I be recognized because of my writing, it's not because of Aryan or what I share with him that I am in this role.
It was not my fault that he got demoted. He was unprofessional.
He continues to be unprofessional, dragging our personal life in the office.
He decided to get married again.
He decided to sign on the divorce papers first.
But somehow after everything he did, I am at fault.
Hey Sita Maiyya, did he come in to my life just so I can learn what bad and toxic relationships are. How toxic his thoughts are.
I am done trying to protect him, done trying to care for him.
It's not my job anymore. Please give me strength to move on from torturing myself over this not very bright human.
Imlie snapped out of her internal monologue, when Aryan told her that the meeting was over and everyone left.
She simply picked up her stuff and walked out of the conference room.
Taking a deep breath she went to her cubicle and started researching ideas for her next report and about continuing her college classes online.
She heard him shuffle and try to gain her attention but she kept her eyes glued on her computer until it was time to leave for home.
Once home, she did hear about Arpita di’s grocery bag mix up with Sundar but she knew one of the drivers would hand over the food. She will not be pulled back in to that mess.
Slowly releasing her breath, she counted to ten until the urge to rush over to the Tripathi’s passed, she went to her room to take a shower.
That’s what she should do from now onwards, distract herself in any way possible and away from AKT.
He did not and will not deserve any place in her thoughts or her life.
