No.1 they are insecure. Malini is insecure about her relationship with Adi because that is what she has witnessed all her life with Anu and dev and like Anu as mother so daughter she wants to keep Adi for herself with the one dying hope that may be she'll make him fall for her.

No 2 Imlie is insecure becz the only intimate close relation she ever had with another person it was with babusaheb, her first relationship which she considers one and only true love of her life she has this false sense of security with him which now is crumbling but he is not just love he is a habit now, running around him, manaofying him, boosting his ego all are her learned behavior patterns and habits die hard
