Thanks Mary - right now this seems to be getting more interesting. Loved Imlie playing peacemaker and not allowing Adi to get all MCP on Rupi and his grumpiness after - really seemed to match his sadu personality😆. Please continue, it is really looking good at this point.

Part 31:

Aditya was feeling divided. He had put himself in the driver's seat to protect Rupi Di and now Imlie was in the back bonding with Alex and the baby - while snipping at him. What had he done so wrong that she was shunning him?

They arrived around midday and Imlie ran in as soon as they got the tickets. Everyone, she said, had to take pictures in front of the Taj with the baby. Aditya stayed a step back with the diaper bag she swung over his shoulder. He watched morosely as Alex sat down in one of the front benches with Emmy in his lap as Imlie tried shots from different angles.

Imlie: Smile, Emmy, smile! There you go! That's my cutie baby...say cheeseeee...

Rupi came up next to him.

Aditya: We haven't even gone inside.

Rupi: Pictures are not allowed inside. Let's get some shots done while we are here.

Aditya: I am fine, thanks.

Rupi: Bhai! You must have a picture with Imlie. No couple leaves here without pictures together.

Aditya looked pained: She's in no mood to take pictures with me, don't you see?

Rupi: Did you two fight again?

Aditya, frustrated: More like she shut me up.

Rupi: Look Bhai, you misunderstood last night. There's nothing between...

Aditya: I know Di, I just don't want you to get hurt. It is not for me to tell you whom to choose, but he's...he's not serious.

Rupi thought about Alex's visible pain and restraint last night at the thought of Imlie and Aditya: I think you might be wrong about that.

Aditya: What makes you say so?

Rupi smiled reassuringly: There's nothing between me and him. So, don't worry.

Aditya, worried: Look Di, I am not trying to police you like the rest of the family. I am not saying who is appropriate for you or not, I just know Alex and...he's...he's a lot more complicated than you think.

Rupi: I am sure, Adi Bhai. But don't worry. I know you are not telling me who will be right for me to pick after you know who. And besides, it's too late for me now anyway. You have nothing to worry about. I have an 18 year old off to college abroad! I have been off the market for a long time.

Guilty washed over Aditya: Don't say that.

Rupi forced a smile: It is true, what is the point in denying it? A woman in her 40s in our culture or even a Western one has little chance of starting over. So no one was meant to love me in my lifetime, but you! You have it. Mutual love like you two have is so rare. Most of us settle. She came back into your life. Don't sour this blessing over petty disagreements over me of all people!

Aditya pleaded: Don't put it like that, Di, you have your whole life ahead of you.

Rupi rolled her eyes: I am staring down at middle age.

Adi: If you liked someone, I would support you.

Rupi: I know that, but there is no one. Spent most of my time getting Twinkle through school and my parents have always been on about my whereabouts. Doesn't leave much time for social life when all your friends are married and busy with their own. It's just the life for us divorced women. We get infantalized as soon as we come back home, like an unmarried daughter on constant surveillance. There's nothing to be done about it. Anyways, stop feeling guilty and go to her!

Aditya looked at Rupi Di and felt the full effect of Imlie's word. His sister didn't have a life. How did he never notice that? Imlie just wanted her to live a little and see the sights with them. If Alex was the right guy and Rupi Didi thought so, what would be so bad about that? She was an adult.

Imlie was surreptitiously glaring at him as Alex squinted against the sun and said something about her sitting down now.

Alex: Come sit here, Emily. It's your turn. And Aditya? Adiya!

Aditya startled: What...yes?

Alex smiled: Sit down with her. Rupi will click for you, won't you Rupi? Emmy and I need a break after our photoshoot.

Aditya left the diaper bag with Alex and approached Imlie cautiously.

Aditya was feeling guilty. She saw it all over his face. He cautiously took a seat next to her. Rupi Di came forward with the camera and was focusing on them.

Aditya whispered: I don't want her to be alone forever. But not with someone who prefers you to everyone else.

Imlie sighed: I thought you agreed they don't even like each other like that.

Rupi interrupted: Why so serious? Smile!

Imlie smiled: You acted like a jerk last night to Alex for no reason at all.

Aditya: I will apologize if I am wrong.

Imlie turned: You ARE wrong! He's not hitting on her.

Aditya looked at Alex's direction. He was looking at them without any expression and suddenly smiled when their eyes meet. Alex look Emmy's hand and waved at them.

Aditya knew then: No, I don't think he is, it would have been better perhaps if he was.

Imlie jumped up: What!? You can't make a U-turn like that!

Rupi: Stop it, you two! No more fighting! Let's go inside before it gets late.

Rupi showed Alex and Emmy the trick with her cell phone flashlight. The carnelians gleamed up as the light touched them.

Emmy: Ooooo

Alex was impressed: That's quite incredible, I have to agree. It must all gleam in the moonlight.

Rupi smiled: When the light hits right, it's magic!

Alex smiled: His king must have really loved her to make such a tribute.

Rupi: I think it was mutual. She gave him 14 babies and died at the 14th, he never forgave himself.

Alex: Then, they were lucky. Like Aditya and Emily there.

Rupi's throat tightened thinking of how she had just summed up her life without love.

Rupi blinked back tears: It's rare. That's why it is celebrated.

Aditya whispered in the hushed room: He's still in love with you.

The smack on his arm reverberated in the small chamber, followed his "Ow!"

Aditya looked around at the horrified faced of all the other tourists in the small chamber. At the far end, Rupi Di's jaw dropped and Alex looked at them curiously.

An older woman, annoyed: This is a sacred space! The emperor and empress are buried under this very chamber.

Aditya: Sorry.

Imlie: Sorry.

At dinner...

Rupi: You two start anywhere! What were you doing fighting in there?

Aditya: She smacked me! And you don't know, Rupi Didi, she's stronger now. It hurts!

Alex: I should think so.

Rupi: Huh?

Alex smiled: Emily is really into working out and all, you know. That's all.

Rupi: Oh. I can see that, but that doesn't mean they get to create a ruckus like that. I mean, even Emmy was in her best behavior.

Imlie wiped Emmy's mouth: She's always better behaved than Aditya.

Aditya: Rupi Di is talking about you too! You are the one who startled me.

Rupi: I am afraid so.

Imlie: He was being impossible Di. I know it was a grave site, but I really couldn't control my temper.

Alex: What did he say that was so offensive?

Imlie: Nothing.

Alex: Was it about me and Rupi again?

Aditya and Imlie together: NO!

Alex rolled his eyes: Well, that's a relief.

Rupi: I think it is time, Adi Bhai, that you apologize to Alex. There is nothing going on that you are not aware of.

Aditya: I am sorry to you both. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusion. In any case, it is none of my business.

Imlie: Well then!

Yes , both also don’t want to give in . I am supporting Imlie this time . I am ok with Malini wining because How hard she is trying , Aditya is not backing out from his stand on Imlie being his wife .

I was talking about Mary's story Adilie our series Adi has become the bail buddhi of the first order he is behooda his wife is on streets when he already knows her in n out due to his own fault she is suffering.
