Next morning...
Alex: Of course you should bring her.
Imlie: But...
Alex: I will take care of her.
Imlie: It's not about that. I am worried about her being in the sun so long. She can enjoy her time with her grandparents here.
Alex: But this will be an experience too. And besides, you and Aditya will be taking all the nice pictures in front of the Taj. Whom will I take mine with?
Imlie laughed: Ok, fine. But no chocolates. You spoil the child.
Imlie hung up: Alex also thinks we should bring her.
Aditya: Good, at least someone is sensible. I think it will be an adventure for her.
Imlie: Pack up then, we have to set off right away if we want to get there on time. I will get Emmy's things.
At Mehrangarh fort...
Aditya: Don't go so near the edge!
Imlie turned around, shocked: I didn't come all the way here not to see the view.
Aditya: Step back and see the view.
Imlie: There is literally a wall up to my neck!
Alex was wearing Emmy on his chest and even he decided to go have a look, which made Aditya's heart skip a beat.
Aditya: Don't you do that too! That wall is definitely not tall enough for you.
Alex called out: I am holding the baby very hard. We are not even leaning.
Imlie muttered to Alex: Killjoy.
Alex: I think he's afraid of heights.
Imlie looked up at Alex and then at Aditya and burst out laughing: You are right!
She ran back to Aditya and tried to drag Aditya to the edge of the large veranda area of the fort.
Aditya's hands were sweating: Stop it! I don't want to!
Rupi tried to appease Imlie: You go see na? I will be with Adi Bhai here.
Imlie looked at Aditya: Are you afraid of heights!?
Aditya glared at her.
Imlie: OMG, you are! I never knew this about you!
Rupi: Imlie, you go enjoy the sights.
Alex came back: Emmy certainly liked it. (He tickled Emmy's cheek as she giggled). See? I told you she would enjoy the trip.
Imlie got distracted: And so you did, munchkin. You hungry?
Alex adjusted Emmy's little hat: It's a bit hot. Shall we go down and get a bite to eat?
Aditya sighed in relief and led the way.
Sitting at the hippie cafe they found at the town bazar, they chatted as they ate... Imlie elbowed Aditya when she noticed him looking at Alex and Rupi with intense eyes.
Aditya: What!?
Imlie smiled: Nothing.
Alex was busy feeding Emmy on his lap and didn't seem bothered thankfully.
Emmy grabbed a handful of Alex's salad and smeared some of the contents next to his mouth.
Rupi laughed: She's trying to feed you, hahaha!
Alex: Yes, the aim is a bit off though.
Imlie extended a napkin to Alex: Fun, isn't it? Try that multiple times a day.
Alex wiped his cheek: I don't mind it.
Aditya: When does she start eating on her own?
Alex looked up, surprised: Not for years yet, mate! You haven't been around many children, have you?
Rupi: He has, but feeding babies and things are never in their radar. It falls on us women.
Imlie: Exactly, Rupi Di. He never had those responsibilities.
Aditya, annoyed, knew they were ganging up on him now: Well, they were my niece and nephew so it wasn't exactly my responsibility either. I feed Emmy.
Imlie: When?
Aditya: Don't be unfair! I fed her the cereal this morning while you were packing!
Imlie waved him off: Cereal is easy stuff. You have a long way to go.
Aditya: But I am trying!
Alex: I will give you some books I bought last year, then you can feel more comfortable trying around the baby. I even have a healthy baby cookbook.
Imlie: What Rupi Didi and I are saying it that men in Indian households are usually not expected to...
Aditya interrupted: But I am trying!
Imlie: I agree, you are trying. But that's what Rupi Didi was saying.
Rupi Didi nodded: Even Pranav was never expected to do anything to care for Twinkle. His mother told me off once for asking him to change her nappies.
Alex: Who is Pranav?
Aditya, at the same time: Yes, Didi, gang up on me before I have even had a chance to try!
Imlie: Adi!
Rupi Didi looked apologetic: I am not comparing him to you, of course. I am sure, you will do better. Pranav is my ex, Alex.
Alex nodded, sensing this was a sore point.
They went back to their hotel with Aditya still grumpy.
Imlie: Don't snap at Rupi Didi like that. What did she say that was so offensive? She is being so nice by going out of her way to help us out. She even put up Emmy for tonight. I want her to have a good time in this trip.
Aditya: I didn't snap at her. You were all ganging up on be for being a male, chauvinist pig just because I never had experience feeding babies. I didn't know until last month that I even was going to care for a baby in the future! How was I supposed to prepare? Alex obviously learned cause he was adopting.
Imlie hugged Aditya from behind: We were just making a general comment, honey. It was not against you.
Aditya: But you think I am a product of this culture so I must have these views.
Imlie: I am also a product of this culture, some of it is unavoidable. That's why I didn't put a lot of her care responsibilities on you until now. But if you want to learn, I will teach you.
Aditya: I do want to learn.
Imlie kissed his back and snuggled up: Then, you will learn. And you will do even better than Alex.
Aditya: Speaking of which, there is nothing between them.
Imlie: I saw you looking at them at dinner.
Aditya: Oh, is that why you elbowed me!?
Imlie: Don't be so suspicious. I agree though, doesn't seem to be anything there.
Alex knocked on Rupi's hotel room door. After a few tries, she finally opened.
Emmy was crying at the top her lungs and the sound pierced the hall as Rupi opened the door, looking frantic.
Rupi: Sorry, didn't hear you.
Alex: I figured you might need some help. May I come in?
Rupi stepped aside: Yes, please. I did say I will take care of the baby, but I seem to have lost my touch! Mine is 18 years old now. I don't know how to put her to sleep.
More to come, I had an idea...
Wow this was fun part loving this trip … Adi is trying to be a good dad nice …💕

Part 30:
Imlie sashayed out of the bathroom and did a little whirl in front of Aditya.
Aditya smiled: How cute you look!
He pulled her on to his lap.
Imlie made a face: I wasn't going for cute. I was going for sexy.
Aditya snuggled into her shoulder and placed a butterfly kiss on her collarbone.
Aditya: Cute is much better than sexy.
Imlie: No, it isn't!
Aditya sighed: I feel like I am forgetting something.
Imlie turned: What?
Aditya: I don't know. Something.
Emmy was crying piteously: Wabbyyyyy...waaabbbyyyy...Pa!
Alex rushed toward her: Mon chou, qu'est ce tu dit? (My cream puff, what are you saying?)
He picked her up and tried to soothe her.
Rupi, nervously: She's been crying about something, but I can't understand if it's English or Hindi, maybe it's French! What do you think?
Alex smiled at Rupi: It's just baby-babble, I think.
Emmy: Waaabbbyyy...
Rupi: She says a few words though, doesn't she?
Alex: Yes, just a few.
Emmy pulled at Alex's cheek: Waabbbyyy...
Alex: What's a waby, ma poulette (chick)?
Emmy: Mmmmmaaammm wabbbyy...wabbby!
Aditya turned toward the side table and jumped: We forgot the wabby!
Imlie startled for balance as Aditya shot up from the bed: What?
Aditya shook his head: The rabbit blank-y, I mean, the rabbit blanket soft toy thing she holds on to all the time.
Imlie, surprised: Oh, she won't sleep without that.
Aditya: Poor darling, she must be in distress. I will go give this to Rupi Di and see how Emmy's doing.
Imlie: I will come with you, you can't go alone.
Aditya rolled his eyes: It's only the other end of this floor.
Imlie picked up her gun: So what?
Aditya: Well, put something on, na? Don't go in a slip.
Imlie blushed: Oh, right.
She put on a terry robe from the bathroom and followed him out.
Alex: Oh, your bunny blanket? (He looked triumphantly at Rupi) She wants her bunny blanket.
Rupi: But, I don't have it. I will go ask Imlie and Aditya.
Alex, grimly: No, don't disturb them.
Rupi blushed at what was left unsaid: Yes...they might be asleep.
Alex nodded and tried to calm Emmy: We will sleep without a wabby like a big girl today, Emmy. Won't it be fun?
Emmy stared blankly at Alex for a moment: Wabby.
Aditya walked down the hall with Imlie close behind and stopped: I don't remember the room.
Imlie: Oh, 131, or was it 121?
Aditya: Oh god, now what?
Imlie: Should we call the lobby?
Aditya: No, they won't give us someone else's room number. We have separate bookings.
Imlie sighed: Let's hope we hear Emmy's cry then.
Aditya and Imlie quietly listened in the hall. Nothing.
Aditya: What if someone comes out and sees us lurking like this in the hallway?
Imlie: I don't want to be seen in a terry robe.
Aditya: I will say we lost the key.
Imlie: Oh, good one.
Alex came out of Rupi's room and saw Aditya and Imlie a short distance from him.
Alex: What's going on?
Imlie ran up to him: We forgot the room numbers. Weren't you next to Rupi Di? What's her room? (She looked at the one next to the one Alex walked out of).
Alex: That's mine. (He pointed at the door he just came out of) This is Rupi's.
Imlie, shocked: What?
She turned just in time to block Aditya speeding towards Alex.
Aditya, angrily: What were you doing in Rupi Didi's room?
Alex didn't acknowledge the insinuation: Putting Emmy to sleep. She was crying for her Wabby. Did you guys bring it from Lyon?
Imlie grabbed the tiny rabbit blanket toy from Aditya's arm and showed it: Yes, sorry, we forgot to pack it with the rest of her things for Rupi Di. We came to drop it off.
Alex tried to avoid looking at Imlie in her robe, but grabbed the soft toy: About time.
Rupi Di opened the door: Sorry, I was in the washroom.
Aditya handed her the soft toy: The infamous wabby. Here.
Rupi smiled and took it: Good thing, you guys brought it. She was crying murder.
Imilie grabbed Aditya's hand: Okay then, problem solved. Goodnight everyone.
Aditya: I am not done. What the hel-
Imlie pushed Aditya away from Alex as Rupi watched: Yes, you are. Night Rupi Di, night Alex!
Rupi looked at Alex as Imlie all but dragged an angry looking Aditya out: What was all that about?
Alex: He's mad because I came out of your room.
Rupi blushed: Oh, I am sorry about the misunderstanding. I will explain everything to him tomorrow.
Alex, grimly: It's his misunderstanding, you don't have to apologize or explain. Goodnight, Rupi. Call me, if you need help or need me to take Emmy out of your hands.
Rupi called Alex back: No, I am apologizing to you. I am sorry you had to go through that just to do me a favor.
Imlie locked the door behind them.
Aditya: He was in her room! At night!
Imlie: He was putting Emmy to sleep! You heard him.
Aditya: That's just an excuse.
Imlie: Emmy cries like crazy if she misses her toy. And for god's sake, don't make this uncomfortable for Alex and Rupi Di.
Aditya: What did I do? He was the one who...
Imlie snapped: You need to stop doubting Alex! And even if it was true, it is no business of yours. Rupi Di is an adult with an adult child! Her virtue is not your responsibility!
The next morning was tense as they drove toward Agra. Rupi tried to keep the conversation light as Aditya, Alex, and Imlie sat in mostly stony silence. Rupi drove and looked at the backseat where Alex and Imlie sat with Emmy in the car seat between them. Aditya insisted on sitting on the passenger seat next to her. Everyone noticed that it was just to keep Alex from sitting in the passenger seat, but nobody said anything.
Rupi: You know the history of the Taj, Alex? The Taj Mahal is the most romantic place on earth.
Aditya rolled his eyes: Hardly. It's dusty and ill-kept with rude sightseers everywhere.
Imlie: Did she address you?
Aditya turned and glared at Imlie.
Emmy held up her rabbit soft toy at Aditya: Wabby.
Aditya smiled: That's nice, darling.
He turned back and looked out the window.
Alex: I read the basics about it, Rupi. I know it is a mausoleum for the Emperor and Empress. Do you know any secrets of the place?
Rupi, cheerfully: Oh yes, there is a clever trick you can do with a flashlight, I will show you when we get there. The whole building is a sparkling masterpiece in the moonlight, but it is not open at night, so you have to imagine it.
Alex smiled: Must be quite a sight.
Imlie: I am glad someone shares my enthusiasm for the place. Dusty. As if that's what this trip is about.
Aditya gritted his teeth and did not say anything.
Rupi: I hope all your moods improve before we take pictures there because this is certainly not a place for grim faces.
Thoughts?
Tensions building up!! But its really good that both of them have to face raw side if each other and try to be at peace in the end.
Well done for diving deep into AdiLie's emotions👏
