Aditya was still grumbling as they prepared for bed long after Emmy went to bed. She lay snoring in a cot in the suite's living room while Aditya and Imlie spoke in earnest whispers in an effort not to disturb her.

Aditya poked his head into the bathroom: I don't want him to mess with Rupi Didi!

Imlie slathered the face cream on her face: He won't.

Aditya: You said, he was a player!

Imlie calmly: He is.

Aditya: Then, how do you know for sure? He specifically asked for her to be his guide.

Imlie: Oh for god's sake, Adi, he just wanted someone local to show him around. And you and I are going to Pakdandiya, so she was the only one left. And he's a bit younger than Rupi Didi to begin with, so there's nothing to worry about.

Aditya rolled his eyes: Since when did that ever hold back any man!?

Imlie sighed: I can't...with you.

Imlie pulled off her robe and walked into bed.

Aditya stared: Oh...where did you get that?

Imlie did a little shimmy: You like it? It's silk.

Aditya snapped: Don't distract me! I am talking about Rupi Didi. I don't want her heartbroken again.

Imlie made a face and went under the covers: I thought you had plans for him.

Aditya followed her lead: Not with Rupi Didi! I thought that if he liked Indian women or culture, he could go on some dates here and see. I didn't want him to go after Rupi Didi!

Imlie: He's not entirely without morals. He knows his boundaries and will not cross them with my family. Okay? (She turned away and curled up to go to sleep).

Aditya played with the straps of her slip, pulling it down. Imlie slapped his hand off.

Adtiya: What!?

Imlie: Go to sleep.

Aditya: Why did you wear that then?

Imlie: Because I like the feel of it.

Aditya turned to his side of the bed: Tease.

Imlie climbed over his back and kissed him on the cheek: Emmy is too close. You have to make do with this kiss.

Aditya turned around and pulled her close for another kiss.

Aditya: Turn then, let me at least hold you.

Imlie turned and snuggled close. Aditya pulled her in by the waist with his arm.

Aditya: I am still not letting this go. I am going to talk to Alex tomorrow when we go to the office.

Imlie: Just be kind. You have no reason to believe that he has any such plans.

Aditya stopped the car at a red light on the way to Bhaskar Times and turned to Alex.

Aditya, straight-faced: She's not your type.

Alex looked at Aditya quizzically: What?

Aditya: My cousin. She's not your type.

Alex groaned: I am not after her, Aditya. In fact, I never chase anyone.

Aditya: Is that right?

Alex smirked: I don't have to, you see. I have the je ne sais quoi. It means...

Aditya interrupted: I know what it means. And it's not the je ne sais quoi, X factor, or whatever. You fit a profile for women. That's all.

Alex raised his eyebrow at Aditya: And what profile is that?

Aditya started driving: Tall, blue eyes, and all that surface level stuff women like.

Alex: That is rich coming from you. You are tall, dark, and handsome.

Aditya: Okay, I am getting uncomfortable now.

Alex laughed out loud: No denials then. Your cousin is a woman, Aditya, better be careful...

Aditya: She has been through a lot, Alex. Don't play with her. She has a college-age daughter. She's not your type.

Aditya, more seriously: I am only joking. I wanted her out of the way of Imlie so Imlie does not tell her about the work she does. That is the reason I asked her to be my guide. Okay?

Aditya looked and then nodded when he bought the argument.

Alex: Do I need to go upstairs when we arrive?

Aditya: I don't think so. Imlie just didn't want herself to be seen here.

Alex: And you should always be accompanied just in case, I know. Sending you off alone last evening was a lapse on our part.

Aditya stopped the car: Well, I am still in one piece. Now, wait here. I will just go give my resignation and come back as an unemployed man.

Alex: Come back in under 20 minutes or I will come up.

Aditya: Yes, yes.

Imlie got Emmy ready and went down to the lobby, hoping for some good, strong coffee in the outdoor breakfast area. She ran into Pallavi, Nishant, and Rupi Didi in the lobby. They rushed toward her and covered her in hugs and questions about how she was, where she had been, why didn't she say, etc, etc.

Pallavi: Ohhhh...is this the baby? She's beautiful!

Emmy looked up from her carriage and stuck out her tongue at them.

Imlie: Emmy! No!

Emmy's bottom lip quivered, but Rupi Didi picked her up before a full blown cry.

Nishant: Why did you not tell us? So, Aditya was right...

Imlie looked at him: Please, Nishant Bhaiyya.

Nishant: Right, right. So what's the plan for your break? Rupi Didi told me about the wedding and Pakdandiya trip. Where is Adi?

Imlie: Let's get some breakfast. He went to his office, I will tell you all about it.

Aditya and Alex found them all in the breakfast parlor. He was feeling quite down since abandoning his career, but the sight of his cousins cheered him up.

Aditya hugged Nishant and then Pallavi: Where are the kids?

Pallavi: We dropped them off at school before coming. I was just telling Imlie about them.

Imlie looked concerned as she looked for a reaction on Aditya's face. Aditya forced a smile.

Aditya: We are off to Pakdandiya shortly. I am glad we all get to meet here.

Alex joined the table and introduced himself. Emmy screamed "Pa" in her baby-voice with glee and climbed into Alex's lap. Nishant and Pallavi looked a little taken aback. Imlie noticed Pallavi looking at Emmy and then Alex.

Aditya tapped Imlie's hand.

Aditya: Alex and Imlie are coworkers. They adopted Emmy a year back.

Nishant and Pallavi smiled in relief and sighed: Oh...how nice...

Rupi Didi: Well, what we came to ask you two is if you plan to see the family before heading back. We have been talking about it and we think you should see the family, Bhai, before you go off anywhere. They have been worried about you.

Aditya: I will visit either way, but it is Imlie's choice whether she wants to or not.

Everyone looked at Imlie.

Imlie: I haven't made up my mind. I need to see my family first and I will ask their advice.

Rupi: You take your time, Imlie. In the meantime, enjoy your visit to Pakdandiya. Your friend here will be in good hands.

Pallavi: We can't help a lot because we are both working, but we prepared an itinerary for the golden triangle.

Alex took the sheet of paper: Thank you and Rupi, I hope this is not too much of an inconvenience.

Rupi: Not at all. I have taken a few days off.

Alex: What do you do?

Rupi: I am a teacher. What do you do?

Alex, smoothly: I work in compliance with Emily.

It was a bland enough answer that killed two birds with one stone, Aditya looked at Alex in admiration.

Thanks Marybarton. The Alex Rupi di angle is starting to get interesting though I'm a bit disappointed that Alex gave up on Imlie so quickly! Adi warning Alex - with the intent of protecting Rupi di when his history has not been good with women did not sit well with me. He did not do right by both women in his life and he giving warning to Alex. Emmy is a darling. I love how you make her presence felt.

Imlie is so in control🥰 I am loving it. Adi pulling down her slip and everything is such a sin to even imagine in the current track. Their relationship looks like they just picked up from where they left 10 years ago. Just that Imlie has become much aware of her wants. Star plus Imlie would have easily given in to the request of meeting the family for Adi and cousin's sake but interpol Imlie is taking her time. ❤

Would love to see how Alex and Rupi might get developed.

In the Tripathi parivaar, what is right for Nishant and Adi is not right for Rupi. They got to pick their wives and even make a mess of things (each), but they were never questioned. Rupi was put in an arranged marriage with a guy from a "good family" because who the hell is Rupi to pick her own guy? Adi is a product of this and he doesn't see his double standard. Rupi should be allowed to make her own mistakes and he cannot dictate for his older sister how she lives her life. But he tried anyway, indirectly, because Indian sister = izzat. He thinks he is doing it out of protectiveness but what he really is doing is typical Indian male entitlement. He cannot protect his sister against her will, but he's jumping the gun when nothing even happened. It's two men discussing Rupi's fate when Rupi never even expressed any interest.

I don't think Aditya wronged anyone as much as he wronged Imlie. Malini fainted when she was told and he tried in that anti-religion marriage. Malini was duped but he had every intention of fulfilling that marriage. Whereas with Imlie, he expects her as his wife to put up with all his antics on the show - another marriage, assault baby, sautan, abusive family, etc. Here Imlie has all the power. She is the one who runs the show. He's unemployed. She's taking him back to France and he's in her power. Adi submits to it because he sees that she was wronged.

Alex has two personalities. He's smirking and happy in front of Aditya and serious and vulnerable in front of Imlie. The last person he will tell anything to is Aditya. He maintains a friendship because they share this family set-up now. Like step dads doing the best for the kid. He respects Adi's place in Imlie's life only because Aditya is Imlie's choice. Alex is very much the better man trying to keep his emotions in check under the superficial life of casual dating because he cannot have what he wants. If Alex still had any feelings for Imlie, he wouldn't say it to Adi or Imlie.
