Washington: Girl band Dixie Chicks insist that they only had to look in the eyes of their children to realise they could not apologise for controversial comments they made about George W Bush.
American patriots criticised Natalie Maines in 2003 after she said it was a shame that President George Bush was from Texas her home state, ten days before the start of the Iraq war. The comments led to the group being banned from many country music radio stations and death threats were made against the band.
"When all this was happening, I had a two-year-old, and Emily (Robison) had a baby. I know a lot of people who would have just said 'Sorry,' but I had to think about when my son gets old enough to ask me what they were talking about. I could never say, 'Oh, I said this thing about the president because I didn't agree with us (America) going to war, but then I took it back.' I wanted him to know that I stood up for what I know to be right," Contactmusic quoted Maines as saying.
