CHAPTER – 8

Palak returned to Indira's room after dinner and asked,"Mamma aap vaha se aise chali kyu aayi?"She replied,"Kuch nehi beta vo mamma ko kaam tha.Tumne paalak khaaya tha na?"Palak said,"Ha mamma kha liya."Indira asked,"Aur papa ne kuch kaha hai kya?"Palak replied,"Ha papa ne kaha ke mamma ke gusse mein pyar hota hai aur ye bhi kaha ke mamma jo banaaye kha lena."Indira felt very embarrassed.She asked Palak to brush her teeth and go to bed.Indira made Palak sleep on her bed and went to Sameer's bedroom.Sameer's room's door was opened.She peeped inside and found Sameer was standing in front of the window.Indira knocked on the door and cleared her throat.Sameer turned and on seeing Indira,he was dumbstruck as he never expected that Indira will come to meet him.He said,"Arey Indira…aao na…please,andar aao."Indira entered inside and said,"Vo…vo mujhe tumse kuch baat karni hai Palak ko lekar."He said,"Ha bolo na."Indira said,"Vo actually,Palak ne usdin mujhse pucha tha ke hum dono ek dusre se baat kyu nehi karte,to maine usse jhut bol diya ke aisi koi baat nehi hai.Ab matter ye hai ke aaj vo choti hai to hum usko jo bhi kahenge ya samjhaayenge vo maan legi par problem ye hai ke jaise jaise vo bari hogi usko hamaare beech ki problem ke baare mein thora thora samajhme aane lagega aur main aisa nehi chahti.Main nehi chahti ke hamaare beech ke differences ka asar Palak par pare,uske bachpane par pare.Main ye chahti hu ke vo ek normal zindagi beetaye baaki ke bachcho ke tarah,isiliye main ye kehna chahti thi ke dikhaava hi sahi par hume uske saamne bilkul normal couples,normal parents ke tarah rehna parega.I mean…hume jataana hoga usey that everything is alright between us."Sameer listened to her very carefully and said,"I can understand tum kya bolna chahti ho,jab tumne mujhe dining table par ishaara kiya tha main tabhi samajh gaya tha ke…Khair I agree,tum jo keh rahi ho vo thik hai aur tumhe is maamle mein meri puri co-operation milegi."Indira smiled formally and said,"Thanks."Sameer said,"Thanks to you too."Indira asked,"Kisiliye?"He said,"Palak ke liye hi sahi par aaj main aur tum pehli baar tumhaare liye hum bane hai."Indira stared widely at Sameer's smiling face for sometime and then left.

Next day,while Sameer and Palak were leaving,Indira gave them their lunch packs and said,"Ab Palak ko mamma se promise karna hoga ke vo pura lunch khatam karegi varna mamma Palak ko punish karegi."Palak said,"Nehi main pura khatam karke laaungi mamma aur agar papa ne nehi kiya to aap papa ko bhi punish karengi na?"Indira and Sameer stared at each other for a while and then Sameer said,"Papa tumhaari mamma se bohot darte hai,isiliye vo to bilkul khatam karenge varna mamma papa ko tumse bhi strong punishment degi."Palak giggled.Indira smiled at Sameer and then he and Palak left.As time passed by,may be for the sake of Palak,but Sameer and Indira's relationship slowly started getting normal and settled down.They behaved much normally than before.One day,Sameer knocked into Indira's room.Indira,on seeing him said,"Arey Sameer aao andar aao.Betho."She asked him to sit on her bed.Sameer said,"Vo main tumse ek baat kehna chahta hu,I hope you don't mind."She said,"Ha bolo na."He said,"Uh-main ye kehna chahta tha ke ummm…Ye sach hai ke humne bhale hi ek compromise kiya hai Palak ke liye but kahi na kahi hamaare rishte mein bhi bohot sudhaar aaya hai,to ab jab hume ek saath rehna hi hai,Palak ke ma-baap ke hesiyat se hi sahi to at least hum dono dost to ban hi sakte hai.I mean agar tumhe koi aitraaz na ho to."Indira was totally surprised at such a proposal.She didn't know what to say.She kept quiet for sometime and then said,"Ateet mein lautna ab mere liye mumkin nehi hai aur ab main lautna bhi nehi chahti kyuki mere aaj ko,meri sabse zyaada zarurat hai.Ye sach hai,ke Palak ke vajah se hi sahi hamaare rishte mein bohot sudhaar aaya hai aur tumne jo mere saath kiya tha shaayad mein kuch hadh tak tumhe uske liye maaf bhi kar chuki hu,to I think at least dosti mein koi buraai nehi hai."Sameer smiled and both shook hands with each other.

One day,Palak was in home and was doing her drawing,but her drawing book finished.She said,"Arey meri copy to khatam ho gayi,par mujhe to drawing karni hai.Ek kaam karti hu papa ke kamre mein jaati hu,wahase paper le lungi."Palak went to Sameer's room and found one of the servants has opened his wardrobe to clean it.The servant put all his clothes on the bed.Palak started searching a paper in his room and Sameer's personal diary fall on her hand.She asked the servant about the diary and the servant answered that she had got it from the wardrobe and it might be Sameer's.She said,"Main isey hi lekar jaati hu isime drawing kar lungi."She took it and returned to her room and after that she did her drawing.after completing her drawing,she tore off the page and put it inside her copy and returned to Sameer's room to put it back.But after reaching,she found that the servant already left by closing the wardrobe.Palak said,"Ab main kya karungi?Papa ki diary to wardrobe mein thin a aur mujhe to kholni aati nehi ab kya hoga?Main ek kaam karti hu mamma ko de deti hu,mamma rakh degi."Palak went to Indira,while going,Indira's photo fall on the ground from the diary.Palak picked it up and went inside Indira's room.Indira,on seeing the diary asked,"Palak ye kya hai?"Palak replied,"Mamma ye papa ki diary hai,meri drawing book khatam ho gayi thin a to isliye maine papa ke diary mein drawing karli,ye unke wardrobe mein thi,vo saaf karne ke liye Annie didi (servant) ne khola tha,par jab main ye vaha rakhne gayi thi na to vo ja chuki thi aur mujhe vo wardrobe mein rakhna nehi aata.Aap rakh dogi na?"Indira said,"Thik hai par agli baar se papa ki koi bhi cheez lene se pehle unse hamesha puch lena."Palak nodded her head and showed Indira's photo to her and said,"Dekho na mamma,us diary ke andar se aapki photo bhi mili hai."Indira took her photo and was surprised.She asked Palak to go and play.Indira looked at her photo and kept on thinking about how her photo came in this diary and concluded that the diary contains something related to her.She then decided to read the diary but again stopped herself thinking that it might be Sameer's personal diary and it is not good to peep inside someone's personal stuffs but still by that time the diary grabbed all her attention that she was unable to stop herself from reading it.She decided that she would read it and keep it inside his wardrobe and will never let him know.So she closed her bedroom's door and started reading it.

It took almost 3 hours for her to complete the whole diary.Indira kept the diary on the bed and cried a lot.After reading the diary,it appeared to her as if,Sameer's heart became a mirror for her which contained only her image.She came to know a lot about him.The diary contained all his pains and sufferings since last 4 years after their marriage.It appeared to Indira as if each mark of Sameer's pen spilled blood from his injured heart.She thought,"Itna dard samet kar rakkha hua tha Sameer ne?Apna gussa aur apni nafrat ke vajah se maine kitni taklif pohchaayi hai usey.Kabhi samajhne ki koshish hi nehi ki usko.Kabhi bath kar thande dimaag se uski baat tak nehi suni maine.Main to apne aap ko ek kamre mein bandh karke,usey koske,ro ke apna dard bahaar nikaala,par sirf aur sirf Palak ke liye usne has kar apna saara gham,apne andar bandh kar diya.Uski hasi ke peeche kitne saare aasu chupe hai,kabhi kisiko dikhaayi hi nehi diya.main maanti hu usne mere saath jo kuch bhi kiya vo maafi ke laayak nehi hai par maine…maine bhi bohot zyaattiya ki hai uske saath.Usne mere marzi ke khilaaf mujhse shaadi ki,par kabhi mere kisi bhi baat ka usne palat kar jawaab nehi diya."Indira wiped her tears and said,"Usne kahi likha tha ke usne shaadi apni khushi ke liye nehi balki mere liye ki hai.Iska kya matlab hua??Usne iski vajah kahi par bhi nehi likhi.Mujhe pata karna parega.I'll have to find out par usse pehle mujhe apne keeye ka praayashchitt bhi karna hoga.Usey uske zindagi ke 4 saal mujhe waapas lautaane honge,uski zindagi mein khushiya waapas laani hongi,mujhe sab kuch badalna hoga is ghar mein,patni banke na sahi lekin ek bahu,ek ma aur ek dost banke.I will…I will do it."She released a deep breath.
