you can't compare us with her...we completed our studies before working...choose our careers with our choice...and are supported by parents at every next stage of life...We all were brought in a loving environment...i hope none of us on forum have been through that mental torture what indira went through...

Maybe all that's true for you, not for me. But your're just looking at one side of the coin. If there are girls who get a good like like you and me, there are plenty more out there who get a life much worse than Indira (raped, homeless, orphans, blind or disabled). Why not compare Indira to these women who are even less fortunate than Indira? In my eyes, Indira had it good (she was healthy- before the BT track, not disabled and could work, she was intelligent, she was NOT an orphan and at least had a happy childhood- was not abused as a child, she had people in her life who loved her (Ishaan and amma and vidith- befoe he turned negative), she had a house--thats a big deal- she didn't grow up homeless!, at least she had a family- not completely alone in this world...i could go on and on). So instead of always focusing on what she didn't have, why don't you ever focus on everything she did have?

If Indira expected help from her brothers, then why NOT her sister? Why shouldn't Mandira work and suppor the family as well and then support her married family later in life? If Indra was so concerned about gender equality and equal rights for women, then why not expect the same from her sister that she did from her brothers?

this is what your post is about, thats why the difference? at one side we pretend we are keeping a balance but at other side we committ the same mistakes which society does
one more point i would like to keep over here
Inder fled away from his responsibilities then so much of hue and cry was created, just because he is a man??? indira was broken and lost as bread earner of family was gone.
similarly they showed sunaina left SF, but was there any difference in the family?? the family moved on, and even munna married another woman.
Inder being married to other lady was brought back, but is there anyone who is bothered for sunaina?? NO, i remember she too earned for family, she opted for a job of stitching but she was never given equal importance as inder got, why??? again because inder is a MAN

No Absolutely not...You got my point wrong. Women in no way consider themselves weak. If they would have considered themselves weak, then they never had moved on, they would have silently accepted a confined life around four walls. Neither Indira was weak and that is why she stood up to take family's responsibility. It's the society with it's stereotype approach of women not meant for working to earn. If a girl and a boy go for same interview, there are more chances of boy getting selected simply because they have more expectations from a boy than a girl. A man never has to face what a woman faces. He never have to be attentive and scared while walking on road late night but she has to. Literacy rate for women is lower than men. Why? because people are more interested in boys' education than a girl. The society has high time deprived women of what men usually do. Gender inequality still exists. So in this presumed world of females being the weaker sex, if women breaking all the chains in which they were tied and do something equivalent, why not give it a recognition? I again repeat any sort of encouragement boosts individual to perform better. Okay let me give you an example. Men are not habituated to household works. In the absense of their wives, they have to adapt to household duties. And I have seen many examples in my neighbourhood that men boasting themselves for doing household works. What's the point of boasting here? Cause they want recognition. They want to show the world that they are doing something unique.

Maybe it has to do more with how I was brought up- I grew up in India (in a very middle-income home- but moved away from India in my teens) as a only child (no brohters) and I never felt like I was treated differently by my parents, school, or society because I was a girl. So yes even though I have had to struggle to get whee I am today, gender inequality is not something I have faced too much and maybe I'm wrong in assuming that it is not as prevalent in India, especially in the bigger cities especially in this day and age. As far as I understand, there are a lot of girls in India today who work. And I also have to say that yes even though girls face challenges, I'm sure boys face their own set of challenges growing up in a society that boxes them into certain roles and stereotypes as well.
As for HD, I still think that it does more to propagate negative stereotypes about women than breaking any barriers for women (see our discussion before about Vidith and Mandira too). But if I had to conclude this discussion, I'll repeat what one of the other forum members stated in this thread- instead of appreciating and emphatizing with just one gender, I think its time for us to appreciate both and understand that both face their own set of challenges. BTW, thanks for your thoughtful comments.

Hi Hema. I was about to comment ,I landed on your comment!! I did not read every comments!!!just few . After reading your comment , Now I know why you got those awards ,!!! I voted to!! Congrats again. You are proving our points,,!!!!
Walden and Pari. Very heathy and on topic conversation. I loved it .Pari I am sorry but I was not in mood yesterday to join you two. It was too much for my brain on Sunday afternoon. But I did get some time this morning. I hope every one stays within the topic .
I was talking to my husband about this. We both have not suffer in any way with gender stereotypes or discriminations!! But Both men and women face the same problem and because of the society. even in western countries this will exit for long time, women suffer more because their tolerance and men suffer due to high expectation from women " take care of me" mentality . In educated couple we see this less but then they suffer with power struggles and control issues . So it's no win situation . Both genders have problems!!!
So this discussion will go on for ever , because every one has different expriances and expectations for opposite sex!!

Heema I go around proclaiming that I know how to cook to my family members! 😆 So am I an alien coz cooking has been traditionally a woman's prerogative and this is something that is taken for granted?😆We women r a complex lot! We expect equality but still expect chivalry from our male counterparts! We can well open a door by ourselves but we become offended if a male fails to open d door for us or offer us their seats on a bus/on d tube etc!🤣 So yea we live in a skewed world and we just cannot take d high road and declare what we think is absolutely correct/incorrect!😆😆

Heema- a fitting conclusion to the discussion. But its important to recognize, like you said, that both genders face stereotypes, not just women. And if we're looking to gain some insight into how to look beyong these stereotypes, HD is not the place to look!
