The treatment for every hyperactive patient in a mental hospital is shock treatment. That is the commandment and HD shalt not deviate from it. The depiction of these scenes and of shock treatment in general media is so misleading and far from the truth, its no longer funny. I know people in real life who have needed shock treatment, but their families have been so scared of the trauma that they think the patient will undergo that they do not grant doctors permission. Shock treatment is mainly associated with torture, but it is actually therapeutic and is administered only in extreme cases and with utmost responsibility. I really think these things should be shown in perspective and at least, sometimes, with an element of reality. Anyway, I digress.
Back to HD.
Rishi knew the number printed on the hand that hugged him. Had he seen the number and memorized it in that one instant? Did Indu tell him? No idea. Anyway, point is that he knows and he goes looking for it (the person whose hand it is). He passes by the room in which Indira is being prepared for receiving shock. He sees and recognizes her and instantly, his rooh afza overflows. He cannot contain his tears and tries telling the doctor what to do. The doctors try shooing him off, but a reborn Rishi hangs on there. At that same moment, a doctor enters the room and Rishi, who can now enter, does so. The doctor has come with the information that this patient cannot receive shock because she has brain tumour.
Every fibre in Rishi's rooh is now resonating with chants of "Shrimatiji". After all, how many people who look like Indira can have brain tumour? He also has the appropriate flashbacks. All except the funeral flashbacks. The writers, in an attempt to provide the stamp of authority to the identity of this person, have the doctors refer to her as Patient Number 17. To which Rishi responds with "...inka naam hai. Mrs. Indira Rishi Kumar". From this moment onwards, Rishi has forgotten Zara. She tries several times to call him, but he neither answers her call nor calls her back.
He is adequately penitent, though. Makes it a point to tell his sleeping Shrimatiji that he has wronged both of them. He acknowledges that he ended his eight year wait for her by giving all his love to her lookalike. At this point, I did not know whether to laugh or cry. This means that he was searching for Indira's features in Zara, and it was not really his "rooh ki awaz". And now that he is face to face with the only woman he had ever loved, he has the strength to admit as much. It takes guts to admit your failings and to that extent, they have redeemed his character.
But I cannot reconcile to the fact that it takes only a slight nudge in a certain direction for him to be all muddled and confused. What is he going to do now? On the one hand, he has married Zara. She had a full fledged life and career going. He convinced her that she was Indira with whom he had a spiritual connect. He kissed her and got her emotions all swinging. He married her with no intention of jilting her. But one glimpse of another person who looks like Indira (who also has brain tumour) and every cell in his body is screaming "Indira". What have they done to him??
Anyway, he shields her from the rowdy elements in Chandni chowk, declares that he will protect her, and brings her home. Much to the chagrin of Kutumb, who was waiting for 15 lakhs--sorry--Zara to come home. Anyway, he gives her some gyaan about how she should have known that this was her daughter, considering that she had given birth to her. Thats ironic because he should have known too...Kutumb could have very well said "Hello pot, I am kettle."
Anyway, Zara now knows that the man she has married has found his first wife. She naturally feels let down. Next week she steps into the house and adds to the drama. Lets see what she does.
This was a very long post! Those who stayed with it till the end, thanks for reading 😊
