CHAPTER - 8

[ DELHI ]

After coming out of the Delhi airport,Sameer asked Maahi,"Ab kaha jaaogi?"She replied,"Aapke saath aayi hu to obviously aapke hi saath jaaungi na."He asked,"No way.Main tumhe apne saath kahi lekar nehi jaanewaala."She made a puppy face and asked,"Aap mujhe aise hi yaha akela chor denge?"He said,"Ye ghar chorkar bhaagne se pehle sochna chahiye tha aur yaad hai tumhe yaha lane se pehle hamaare beech mein ek deal bhi hui thi ke yaha pohochne ke baad tumhaari responsibility meri nehi hogi."Maahi said,"Aap mujhe aise yaha akela chorkar nehi ja sakte.Phir main apne papa ko kaise dhundhungi?"Sameer casually replied,"Vo tumhaari problem hai tum jaano.Bye."He asked his driver to take his luggage and started walking towards his car.Maahi ran behind him and kept on saying,"Main koi yaha apne khushi se nehi aayi hu.Main yaha apne papa ko dhundhne aayi hu vo bhi apne mummy ke liye.Main bohot bara risk lekar aayi hu,apne ghar se bhaag kar aayi hu.Please aisa mat karo monster uncle."Sameer sat inside his car and then said,"Maine nehi kaha tha tumhe aisa karne ko.So please.Good bye."Sameer asked his driver to start the car and then he drove home.

Maahi hugged her bag and sat on the floor.She had tears in her eyes.She kept looking here and there and started searching for her mother.She took out Indira's photo from the bag and cried hugging it.On the other hand,while Sameer was sitting in his car,he was working on his laptop,but still he could not work comfortably and all the time Maahi's face came before his eyes.The more he tried to concentrate the more he was getting disturbed.His heart and brain was having a huge fight.The convo :-

H :- "Aise akele kaise chor diya maine usey?"

B :- "Bhaar mein jaaye mujhe kya.Maine thore hi usey invite kiya tha apne saath aane ko?"

H :- "Iska matlab ye thore hi hai ke aise akele airport mein itni choti bachchi ko chor du?"

B :- "To main kya dunia ke saare bachcho ka theka leta phiru?"

H :- "Itna bara sheher hai agar kho gayi to kasoor to mera hi hoga na?"

B :- "To iska matlab ye to nehi ke main usko ghar mein lekar jaau.Mera ghar koi dharamshaala to nehi hai."

H:- "Par usne to mera aajtak kuch nehi bigaara hai.Usne meri madat bhi to ki hai hotel tak pohochne mein."

B :- "Kaunsa asaani se lekar gayi hai.Itna ghuma kar pata nehi kaha kaha se le gayi hai."

H :- "Par le to gayi hai na.Usey kya pari thi teri madat karne ki.Kamsekam is naate to tu uski madat kar hi sakta hai."

At last his brain accepted its defeat and he asked the driver to turn the car back to the airport.When he reached the airport.He searched a lot but didn't find her anywhere.He,by now got a bit tensed.He cursed himself,"Oh God!Pata nehi kaha gayi hogi?Ye sab mere vajah se hua hai,mujhe aise usey yaha akele chorkar nehi jaana chahiye tha."Sameer asked each and everyone giving her description,but he didn't get any positive answer.At last he decided to go to the police.

When he gave the description to the airport police they took him inside where Maahi was sitting and crying.On seeing Sameer,Maahi ran to him and hugged him by his waist.She asked,"Aapaapmujhe chorkar kyu gaye the?Aapko pata hai main kitnakitna dar gayi thi?"She was having hiccups.The officer asked,"Aap kaun hai?"Sameer replied,"Iam Sameer Diwan.Main Diwan Builders ka MD hu."The officer asked,"Ye bachchi aapki kya lagti hai?"He was now in a dilemma about what to say in reply to them.After thinking for sometime,he replied,"Yeyeye meri beti hai."The officer asked,"Agar ye aapki beti hai to aap isko aise itne bare airport mein akela kaise chor kar gaye?"He replied,"Maine usko kaha tha waha khare rehne ko aur main apni car dhundhne gaya tha par aakar dekha to vo yaha nehi thi.Main khud hi usey tabse dhundh raha hu."When the officer cross checked it,Maahi nodded her head an agreement.The officer allowed Sameer to take her back.When they were in the car,Maahi asked,"Aapne un logo se jhut kyu bola?"He replied,"Agar main sach bolta to vo log tumhe waapas Manaali pohcha dete tumhaari mummy ke paas phir tum yaha apne papa ko dhundhne kabhi nehi aa paati.vaise tum kaho to main unhe jaakar sach bol sakta hu."Maahi screamed,"Nehiii!!!"Sameer gave a devil smile and asked the driver to drive home.

[ MANAALI , FEW HOURS BACK ]

In Manaali,when Indira found that Maahi didn't arrive when her name was about to be announced for her performance,she became worried.She called in the home and Joan said that she had left the home for school long time ago.Indira came in to tension.She hurried back to home and said to Joan that Maahi didn't show up in school.Everyone in the home started searching Maahi all over the place.Indira went to her room and dashed on the bed.Suddenly,she noticed the letter under the pillow.On reading the letter,everything went dark in front of her and she fainted.Joan and others held her and made her lie down on the bed.They somehow brought her into consciousness and after regaining her consciousness,she cried out Maahi's name and showed her letter to Joan.She was crying and behaving like a mad.No one was able to control her.At last doctor was called and seeing Indira's condition,she had to give her a sedative and Indira slept taking Maahi's name.

[ DH ]

On reaching DH,Maahi,on seeing the house said,"Arey baapre aapka ghar to kitna bara hai."Sameer stepped inside the house and on seeing him,Simi came and hugged him.She asked,"Haaye kitna dubla ho gaya hai mera beta?Tujhe un logo ne khilaaya vilaaya nehi hai kya?"Sameer got irritated and said,"Mom please!Vaise ye saara laad pyar aap kisi aur par dikhaiye kyuki main aapke liye Manaali se ek unwanted gift uthaakar laaya hu."Simi confusingly asked,"Kya matlab?"He replied,"Darwaaze ke taraf dekhiye."Simi saw Maahi standing with her bag.She came near her and said,"Haaye!Kitni soni bachchi hai.Bilkul pariyo jaisi khubsurat hai."Maahi said,"Main apni mummy ki tarah dikhti hu na vo bhi bohot beautiful hai."Simi asked,"Kya naam hai tera beta?"She replied,"Maahi."Simi kissed on her cheeks and asked Sameer,"Ye hai kaun?"Maahi asked,"Kya aap saare sawaal ghar ke bahaar mujhe khara rakh kar hi karengi?"Simi apologized,"Ha ha andar aaja beta."Sameer described the whole story related to Maahi.Rajshekhar was very amused as well as stunned by the step Maahi had taken.He asked,"Tumhe dar nehi laga?"Maahi replied,"Laga tha par main kya karu mujhe papa ko dhundhne ke liye aisa karna hi para."She said,"Maine mummy se subhe se baat nehi ki hai.Pata nehi abhi mummy ka kya haal ho raha hoga.Abhi tak to shaayad vo ro ro kar apna bura haal bana chuki hogi.Main ek phone karlu?"Simi said,"Ha ha bilkul."Maahi picked up the receiver to dial Indira's number.

[ MMH , MANAALI ]

Indira woke up from her sleep.Joan was sitting all along while she was sleeping.Indira again started weeping.She said,"Mothermother meri Maahi ko dhundh kar laao na mother.Mere paas ab uske alava kuch nehi hai.Main uske bina jee nehi paaungi mother.Mujhe meri bachchi la do.Mujhe meri Maahi la do."Joan was consoling her and said,"Hum police ka paas jaayega Maahi ka missing report likhaane."At that time,Indira's phone rang.Joan picked up the call.The covo :-

J :- "Hello."

M :- "Hello mother main Maahi bol rahi hu."

J :- (screamed) "Maahi!!!Tum kaha hai my child?"

On hearing Maahi's name,Indira snatched the phone from Joan.

I :- (like a mad) "Maahi!Maahi meri bachchi tu hai kaha???"

M :- "Hello mummy!Mummy aap fikar mat karo main bilkul thik hu aur main Delhi pohoch gayi hu."

I :- (yelled) "Delhi????Tu Delhi chali gayi?Tu aise kaise chali gayi mujhe bina bataaye?Tujhe ek baar bhi mera khayaal nehi aaya?"

M :- "Main jaanti hu mummy aap mujhpar bohot gussa ho par mere paas bhi to koi option nehi hai na.Maine aapse kitni baar pucha papa ke baare mein par aap mujhe kabhi kuch nehi bataati.Abhi parso dekho sabne aapko kitni gandi gandi baate kahi hai papa ko lekar.Aap kitna royi.Koi aapko kuch bhi kehta hai to mujhe achcha nehi lagta hai mummy.Isliye main yaha aa gayi.Aapne kaha tha na ke papa Delhi mein rehte hai aur bohot rich hai.Aap dekh lena main is baar papa ko zarur dhundh lungi.Aap bas rona mat."

I :- "Maahi beta main kaise rahungi tere bina aur tu iswaqt hai kaha?"

M :- "Vo jo monster uncle ki baat ki thi na maine aapse main unhike saath bhaag aayi hu.Vo to mujhe laana hi nehi chahte the.Main unko blackmail karke yaha aayi hu.unke ghar mein unke alava sab bohot achche hai."

I :- "Maahi tu vahi ruk main Delhi aa rahi hu."

M :- "Mummy aapko meri kasam hai aap yaha nehi aayengi aur main bhi jabtak papa ko dhundh nehi leti main bhi yaha nehi aaungi."

I :- (helplessly) "Ye kaisi zidd hai beta?Tere papa nehi aayenge."

M :- "Aise kaise nehi aayenge.Zarur aayenge.Main lekar aaungi."

I :- "Maahi"

M :- "Main rakhti hu mummy.Abhi mujhe bohot saare kaam karne hai.Bye.I love you mummy."

She cut the call.

Simi and Rajshekhar were very happy to have Maahi in their house without even knowing that she was their own grandchild.Simi took her to the shopping mall to purchase her new dresses.Maahi screamed all the time on seeing the price of the dress and everytime used to say that with the price of one dress she could purchase 10 dresses in Manaali.She also purchased a photo frame so that she could store her family picture when her father will be with her.Literally,Maahi didn't allow to take Sameer a single breath of relief.After every one or two hours,she used to call him and ask whether he had enquired about her father or not but everytime she was disappointed.

[ FEW DAYS LATER ]

[ DH , DELHI ]

One night,it was heavily raining in Delhi alongwith high sound lightning.Now Maahi was very much scared of lightning.In the middle of the night,suddenly,a thunder blasted very loudly.Maahi was sleeping inside her room.She jumped on the bed and covering her ears,she screamed,"Mummmyyy!!!"

[ MMH , MANAALI ]

Indira too was sleeping on her bed.She woke up and uttered,"Maahiii!"She hurriedly came down of her bed and started running calling Maahi's name.Everyone woke up,hearing her shout.Indira ran towards the main gate and started pushing it in order to open it.Joan and others came running following her voice.Joan held her from back and asked,"Indira,my child kya hua??Tum aise chilla kyu raha hai??"Indira grabbed Joan's hand and replied,"Mothermothermujhe abhi abhi Maahi ne pukaara hai.Usne mujhe awaaz di hai.Vovo bohot dar gayi hai mother.Vomummy mummy kehkar mujhe bula rahi hai.Mujhe uske paas jaana hai mother.Mujhe jaana hai."Joan said,"Arey beta ye sab tumhaara vehem hai.Aisa kuch nehi hai.Maahi to yaha hai hi nehi vo to Delhi mein hai."Indira said,"Par usne mujhe pukaara hai mother."Joan understood that Indira had lost her mental balance.She said,"Chalo Indira andar chalkar so jaao."She almost forcefully took Indira inside.Joan gave her medicines and then Indira slept peacefully.Joan shook her head and said,"Oh God!Bichaari ka beti ka gham mein dekho kya haalat ho gaya hai.Please God dono ma-beti ko zyaada dino tak ek dusre se dur mat rakhna."She prayed to God and then decided to sleep with Indira.

[ DH , DELHI ]

Maahi jumped down from the bed and ran out of her room.She made a crying face and was constantly uttering Indira's name.At that time,Sameer came out to drink water.On seeing Maahi running devastatingly like that.He asked,"Kya hua Maahi aise bhaag kyu rahi ho?"Maahi said,"Mujhe bijli karakne ki awaaz se bohot dar lagta hai.Hamesha aise mein mummy se lipat kar soti hu aaj to mummy bhi nehi hai.Main akele nehi so sakti.Please bas aaj main aapke saath so jaau?"Sameer made a weired face and asked,"Mere saath???"He thought for a moment and said in his mind,"Ye lo airport mein to nakli baap bana tha ab kya shai mein baap banke isko apne god mein sulaana parega kya?Ajeeb musibat hai yaar.Bhagwaan is dunia mein bachcho ko pata nehi bhejte kyu hai?"He thought for a moment and then felt pity seeing her crying face.While taking her inside,he said in his mind,"Beta Sam bohot bari musibat mol le raha hai tu ek bachchi ki bholi surat par bharosa karke."Maahi slept beside him.She slept very close to him.Sameer asked,"Thora dur hokar so na?"She replied,"Phir se bijli karki to?Main mummy ke saath baarish ke mausam mein aise hi soti hu."He said,"Main tumhaari mummy nehi hu."She said,"Airport mein jaise nakli papa ka naatak kiya tha vaise ab bhi karlo na."Saying she closed her eyes.Sameer looked towards the roof and said,"Bhagwaan please jaldi se iske baap se isko milaado,mere sar se bala talegi.Aaj samajhme aa raha hai iske baap ne inko chora kyu hoga.Itne bare monster ke saath rahega kaun?"He too closed his eyes.

Next morning,when Simi came to Maahi's room to wake her up,she was surprised on not getting her.She went to Sameer's room to ask him but was more surprised to see her with him.They were sleeping very close and Sameer's hand was lightly put on Maahi.On seeing the scene,Simi was very delighted.She said,"Haaye!Kitne achche ag rahe hai dono ek saath.Aisa lag raha hai jaise sach mein meri poti ho.Bhagwaan kare iske saath rehte rehte mere bete ko bhi bachcho se lagaav ho jaaye aur vo ek achcha baap ban jaaye."Simi left from there.

Sameer woke up after one hour and found his bed to be empty.He smiled and said,"Thank God chali gayi!"He was just about to get up when he noticed a photo frame on the bed.He asked himself,"Ye kiski photo hai?Meri to nehi lagti?"He then replied to his question,"Lagta hai Miss Monster ki hogi."He was about to leave the bed but the photo attracted him.He took up the frame and turned slowly turned it.As soon as he completely turned the photo,his eyes widened and his expressions were like as if thunder had fallen on his head.His whole body started shivering.His whole past rewinded hazily in front of his eyes.He started taking breath very heavily."Yeh photo yaha hai???Aur main isko kabse dhundh rahi hu."Maahi said from the doorstep.His concentration broke.He gained consciousness on hearing Maahi's voice.Maahi came near him and asked,"Kya hua monster uncle aap aise baukhlaaye huye kyu hai?"Sameer pointed on the photo and asked,"Yeyeye kaun hai?"Maahi took the photo from his hand and replied,"Ye meri mummy ki photo hai.Vo yaha nehi hai na to unki photo le aayi unse baat karne ke liye."Sameer looked at Maahi with a jerk and uttered,"Mummy???Kya naamhaiinka?"Though he clearly remembered her name but still he tried to confirm.Maahi replied,"Meri mummy ka naam Indira Sharma hai."That was the last stroke for Sameer.The name fall like melted iron in his ears.Maahi left with the photo leaving Sameer in a shocked and devastated state.
