i understand your point about actors looking a certain way esp those who can't actually act!!! ... but i think applying different standards is not so easy... like i was very meek in real life and when i discovered SNS i became pretty aggressive ... and before i realised that rudeness seeped into my real life interactions ... i finally stopped when my best friend told me that i was becoming an ass 😲

.. so my theory is very simple -> what the other person does with their body, how they look is not my concern... at all...

btw, Can i say that its incredibly brave of you to invite feedback on yourself. i don't think i could do it - i would be too scared of what people may have to say about me !

😳

Thanks. Since I do believe in criticizing others only fair to have others say it, right πŸ˜†, No one is perfect here and honestly sometimes family members put up with us and may choose to look the other way at our bad points. It takes a neutral third party to show someone a mirror in many cases and this place is as good as any. It is what someone chooses to do with the criticism though and in this case, well I can only promise to try.

It's not an old people disease any more. Maria Menounos an entertainment TV anchor was diagnosed with brain cancer recently. She works out, eats healthy and she is not 40 yet. So there are environment factors that can cause too, who knows ?

Agreed that it happens to others too but fatness increases your chances and risks for almost all diseases. It also worsens whatever diseases you might get for other reasons. Any doctor will tell you to lose weight for almost all diseases though I think this "my poor poor feelings" stuff has invaded the medical profession too and there is some fear of just saying it like it is. People even shop around for doctors like they do for clothes trying to find the "nice" ones that will tell them whatever they want to hear and doesn't "hurt their feelings."

😳. Thank you, sincerely. Coming from you, means something. You are incredibly brave IMO for facing what you did and not buckling. I think most of us just post something here not realizing who is reading. Celebs are not reading, but real people behind a computer are. Something to think about for all of us IMO.

If I meet a friend and casually tell her "hey you've put on weight" or "you're looking flabby in that dress" - these are not particularly body shaming in my opinion. You can most certainly point out to people that they're over weight and need to work out. But I think the issue got serious and got bad connotation to it because body type was being and is still being used to bully & mock people on social or public platforms. And body shaming is grossly one sided. Women are so often attacked for not looking a certain way especially when their intellect and potential is being largely overlooked, while most men are given a leeway.

Mocking a person for features he / she is born with is body shaming
There are some things a person cannot change ever
He / she has no control over it ; shaming him / her on that is body shaming
Fitness is a different thing as you have to maintain it

There are also the "smaller" fat people who are not in the disabled category yet but also use up a lot more heath services than normal thin people because it *is* unhealthy and leads to problems especially with age.

This is so true.

I used to travel by bus to work earlier, and every 2 days of a week, we will have these really really obese travelers who are not even fitting in their wheel chairs, get into bus. For they moved their wheel chairs slowly so bus has to wait for more than 15 minutes till they slowly settle in. And then they have special place allocated to them. So at least 5 people has to stand up and vacate their seats to fit wheel chairs in the bus.

Here I am and many others, who woke up at 6 every day. Get ready to go to work. We work hard and even pay taxes, these people come lazily and take away seats. Made us late for work. n so on. And many times, I see them eating cheese puffs n such fatty foods. They were so unapologetic.
It is like.. we do what we want. We eat whatever we want. Govt. take care of us. Is the attitude.

Same with teenage girls. Moving around with strollers n kids. Shouting n mistreating kids while they are busy in their phones. Twice or thrice, passenger had to hold stroller from slipping away while mother is busy surfing through her phone. Such is the future of America.

There may be people with genuine problems, but they are so less in numbers. Most are just taking advantage of govt. aids and living carefree on taxpayers money. It's like Govt. aids have made people lazy.

I have no sympathy for them. Sorry for going slightly off topic but I had to rant somewhere.

Other than that.. I don't think I body shame. I can deal with different body types. Flabby arms and chubby body do not bother me. Arjun Kapoor I have called genda, coz that's how he looks & then he plays macho man characters. πŸ€”

The other thing I don't get most of the time is, IF members making fun of someone's nose. ie. SRK has pakoda nose. I mean... pakoda nose or not, this is what he has. Do you want him to go for surgery? Coz I generally don't notice anyone's nose. I myself have pakoda nose and I am fine with it. It hasn't bothered me like nose bothers people here. πŸ˜†

I think the difference between body shaming and constructive criticism is intention. For example, in a family we might caution each other to eat healthier or exercise more when one becomes overweight, not because they look bad but because being overweight increases the chance of diseases to the body, like diabetes, heart problems, liver problems, etc. Family members and close friends care about each other and want their loved ones to live a healthy life, and thus overweight people might receive some well-intentioned advice on how to maintain a healthier weight, and in those cases they shouldn't take it the wrong way.

However, body shaming is very easy to find out. It's when people mock someone on how they look, with no intention than to make them miserable and ashamed of their body. They may mock them about their weight, but it's not with intention to make them healthier, but to make them feel bad about themselves. Body shaming leads to risk of developing eating disorders and body image disorders, which are becoming far more common in India than they used to be.

I think it's important to maintain a healthy weight, but the obsession people have with 'skinny bodies' is unhealthy and unrealistic. A person can have a normal body weight, be curvy and well rounded out, and still be healthy. There is no need for a too skinny body. In fact, being underweight is just as bad as being overweight, as you develop other diseases when body doesn't get enough nutrients. Underweight women struggle with pregnancy and are at greater risk for miscarriages than overweight women.

As for BW, I consider 85% of them underweight and abnormal in their skinniness, and no I don't think that looks good at all. In fact, it sends a totally wrong message to girls in society that that's what they should aspire to, when all they need to maintain is a healthy body weight, eat normally and exercise regularly. I wish BW would show FLs with a more normal body, but I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon.

I have a problem when an ectomorph body type celeb is shamed for as a skeleton when it's common knowledge that the person is a foodie and isn't actively trying to lose weight but instead struggling to gain (a lot of female celebs seem to have this issue)
There is almost nothing these types can do usually and they r doing their best to maintain a certain weight in majority cases anyway. Plus let's be honest these r not exactly off putting or repulsive to watch.

But I have a problem when male or female celebs r fat Only due to their laziness! See normal people like us have a job which has nothing to do with what we look. And we don't get paid over how we look. Nor do we use our looks to earn. So when the ones who use their looks as their main cashing point and we provide the cash to watch that entertainment I think we r entitled to criticize when it's so off putting and it's clearly apparent that is plain laziness that results in it. And isn't something they cannot do anything about with the zillion resources at their disposal!

Ones like Pari and Sonakshi r definitely not the ones I mean about. They r fit and have different body types not fat roles and looked decent! But some regional and tv people (less of this type in BW thankfully) r there that is pretty off putting in skimpy outfits etc :(

PS: I'm slightly chubby and need to only look at food to gain weight and I workout and control food to remain where I am. So I feel it's well within our rights to criticize these people who have so many easy access ways to control weight unlike us regular folks

It was body shaming when u called divyanka moti in the thread and implied that she is bad looking and Aunty just because of that, and I feel bad for liking it, her body her choice, she has a very good career in spite of it, so big deal! I still don't see why some petite actresses are thought of being better looking according to u, because if u ignore divyanka's annoying personality her facial features are far better than most petite actresses! And in spite of being over weight she manages to look better than them on number of occasions! I don't mind people referring to divyanaka as arrogant or even talentless but calling her ugly and buddhi does not cut it for me! I find that unfair! Her life her choice! She can weigh as much as she wants and when her audience does not have a problem then what is the big deal!?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder which in this case of me. Perhaps she is an excellent actress, a great beauty in other clothes, I do not know. I can't identify her if you put her and two other pictures of actresses in front of me unless they were Winget and Irani. Winget I have never seen act, but I know of because well, she is rather famous in BW forums πŸ˜› and Irani I know because I actually watched IPK . Divyanka obviously has a drama free personal life unlike Winget so no one brought her here for me to know of her before that dance show πŸ˜†. What I saw of her in that GIF from that dance show, she can't dance and did not look like what I would consider a female lead in a TV drama would be, but what the hell would I know, I have no clue about TV dramas as I don't watch them.
