I think the difference between body shaming and constructive criticism is intention. For example, in a family we might caution each other to eat healthier or exercise more when one becomes overweight, not because they look bad but because being overweight increases the chance of diseases to the body, like diabetes, heart problems, liver problems, etc. Family members and close friends care about each other and want their loved ones to live a healthy life, and thus overweight people might receive some well-intentioned advice on how to maintain a healthier weight, and in those cases they shouldn't take it the wrong way.
However, body shaming is very easy to find out. It's when people mock someone on how they look, with no intention than to make them miserable and ashamed of their body. They may mock them about their weight, but it's not with intention to make them healthier, but to make them feel bad about themselves. Body shaming leads to risk of developing eating disorders and body image disorders, which are becoming far more common in India than they used to be.
I think it's important to maintain a healthy weight, but the obsession people have with 'skinny bodies' is unhealthy and unrealistic. A person can have a normal body weight, be curvy and well rounded out, and still be healthy. There is no need for a too skinny body. In fact, being underweight is just as bad as being overweight, as you develop other diseases when body doesn't get enough nutrients. Underweight women struggle with pregnancy and are at greater risk for miscarriages than overweight women.
As for BW, I consider 85% of them underweight and abnormal in their skinniness, and no I don't think that looks good at all. In fact, it sends a totally wrong message to girls in society that that's what they should aspire to, when all they need to maintain is a healthy body weight, eat normally and exercise regularly. I wish BW would show FLs with a more normal body, but I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon.
