CHAPTER 5

Monica gave a huge gasp and looked back at Sirius with apprehensive eyes and met his confused ones.

"I know!" he said, clearly mistaking her gasp to be one of a pleasant surprise, "I am here darling!" he said hugging her from behind, Monica did not take her eyes away from Sirius' which grew wide as he got the hang of it.

"I have to change into robes myself dear so I'll meet you down there my love!" he said kissing her lightly on the lips.

"What is wrong Mon?" Amos had clearly not noticed Sirius standing there.

"No… No… I am fine… just pleasantly… surprised…" she said tearing her eyes away for a moment to look at Amos.

"You must be tired!" he said walking out. Monica followed close behind to prevent him from spotting Sirius.

"Oh and by the way, I think you should wear the pink robes!"

Monica nodded, flustered, and pushed him out of the door. She shut the door and turned to look at Sirius who wasn't there. She gave a huge sigh and walked into his room. He was standing with his back turned to the connecting door, looking up at the ceiling.

"Sirius, let me just…"

"Explain?" he spat. Monica winced at the bitterness in his tone, "I thought you were not seeing anybody and now what is this Moss…"

"Amos!"

"To hell with his name!" he said turning to face her, "I thought you loved me…" he said softly. She melted under his gaze, "I really do love you…"

"Well then… what is Mo- watshisname doing here?"

"I don't know!"

"I guess this is good in a way. Now you can break up with him for me!" Monica was silent.

"Whats wrong?" asked Sirius frowning.

"I can't do that Sirius… its complicated…" she said quietly.

"Like how?"

"I can't say… its difficult…"

"how difficult can it be? 'Moss, I am still in love with Sirius and I cannot see you anymore.' Simple!"

"It is more complicated than just that! You will not understand!"

"Try me, will you?"

"I can't!"

They looked at each other for a long time and Monica sighed and went back to her room.

Monica decided on the violet robes and descended the stairs. She sensed Sirius walking down behind her. Before she decided whether to turn around or not, Amos took her hand.

"You look pretty Mon! Violet brings out the color in your eyes… I guess this looks better than pink would have looked."

Monica could swear she heard Sirius mutter 'I knew that before you!' behind her.

"Lily!" hissed Monica, "Lily! I want to talk to you right now!" She pulled Lily into a corner and James followed hesitantly.

"What Mon?"

"Why did you invite Amos?"

"I thought that since you both were going strong it would be rude not to invite him…"

"Oh my god!" she moaned, "I am still in love with Sirius!" she whispered.

"I knew that! Then break it off with Amos!" said James.

"I can't! it is complicated!"

"Do you love Amos?"

"Well… in a way I guess… but not the way I love Sirius…"

"There You are Mon!" Amos had found them and slipped an arm around her waist. He looked at James and Lily.

"Congratulations James and Lily!"

"Thanks Amos!"

"So now we all know whose marriage is next in line!" he said looking at Monica significantly. Monica for some reason looked at her feet. Amos noticed the confused expression on Lily's face and added, "Didn't Monica tell you?"

"No!" said James looking bewildered.

"Ahan?" asked Amos looking at Monica.

"I have my reasons!" she mumbled.

"Well, I leave it to your better judgement then!" he said walking away. Monica made a motion to walk away too but James caught hold of her hand and she tried to pull apart but he held her firmly.

"Amos was not really very subtle Monica. What did he mean?" asked Lily.

"Umm… nothing…" she said trying to pull away. James whirled her around to face Sirius, standing nearby.

"You may not owe us an explanation but you do owe him one!" said James firmly. Sirius was looking at James defiantly. She looked at all their faces in turn. James' indignant one, Sirius' defiant one and Lily's apprehensive one and she sighed knowing that she had to tell them the truth.

"Amos… well Amos and I… we are…well…we are… engaged." She said quietly.

Oh No...
now wht will sirus reaction be???
