'Mornin, Lily,' James said as Lily desended the stairs.
'Good Morning, James,' Lily greeted him back.
'I just got this note from Proffessor, Dumbledore. It says we are supposed to meet him after breakfast,' said James showing Lily the note.
'Oh! Does it say what it is about?'asked Lily taking the note from him.
'Nope.'
'Any Ideas?'asked Lily.
'Nope.'
'Anything wrong with you?
'Nope.'
Lily narrowed her eyes.
'James. You aren't normal this morning,'said Lily sitting beside him.'Whats your problem?'
'Nothing, Lily'said James trying to smile but failing terribly.
Lily raised her eyebrows.
'I am telling you. There is nothing wrong,'said James.
'FINE. Don't tell me. Hide everything from your friend. I am going down to breakfast,'saying that Lily left James and made her way through the potrait hole.
James watched his favorite red head move out and he heaved a sigh and made to follow her.
He wasn't the one who was hiding things. It was her.
When he reached the Great Hall he found the rest of the Marauders coupled up with their girlfriends, except Peter who was no where to be seen (as usual).James saw Lily sitting a bit away from the couples.James made his way towards her and sat down next to her.He helped himself with bacon and eggs without another word.
After Lily and James breakfasted, James asked Lily whether she'd like to go to Dumbledore's office
right away and Lily accompanied him there wordlessly.
Lily gave the password to the gargoyles ('Chocolate Quills') and they entered the Headmaster's room after he had called them in.
'Ahhh, Miss.Evans and Mr.Potter. I assume that you got my note. How are your Head Duties?'asked the Head Master surveying them through his half moon glasses.
'Oh yes Professor. They are going JUST fine,'James said with a side way glance at Lily.
Lily immediately understood what James' problem was.
'Very Good. I was quiet sure that you'd be able to do it. To the matter now. I called you both here today because some of the 5th years this year requested for a Ball to take their mind off theload of work they have been getting. And I personally think its a very good idea. With all this tension that is arising about Lord Voldemort, I think the students and staff must get a break and have some fun,'said Professor Dumbledore.
'Thats a very good idea Professor,'said Lily.
'That's the reason why I called you both up here. I'd like to give you both the resonsiblity of arranging this Ball. As the Head Boy and Head Girl and also being teenagers you'll be excellent co-ordinators for this Ball and I'm sure you'll take this preparation very seriously and make it a grand sucess,' said Dumbledore.
'Sure sir.I like this idea and I'll - I mean - We'll put our full efforts into it,'said James and Lily nodded in approval.
'Excellent. Its just the assurance I want. You can discuss the plans with the Prefects and come to
me if you have any problem. And please put up the date for the next Hogsmede weekend. It is to be on the last Saturday of October. You may leave if there isn't anything else of importance,' said Professor Dumbledore.
Lily made her way through the door and realised that James wasn't behind her.
'Professor. You didn't tell us when the Ball is to take place,'James asked.
Lily litrally hit herself for not thinking about that.
'Oh! My apologies. It is to be held on the evening before you leave fot the Christmas holidays,'said the Head master and James and Lily left the office.
When reached the corridor, James turned to Lily,'Lily, we have to make this a sucess. Its a chance to prove ourselves. We can't miss it,' James said in tone which Lily had never heard before.
'Right you are James. We'll hold a Prefect's meeting tommorow and make some beginner's plans,'Lily said taking out her planner.
'Fine.I'll inform all the Prefects then,'said James,'Meet you later then.'he continued and turned to leave in the other direction.
'James.Come back here,'Lily called.
'Whats the matter,'James asked looking startled.
'Whats the matter? You are asking me! I am supposed to ask you that,'Lily retorted.
'I told I'm fine Lily,'James said.
'I have been your friend just for just around a month and a half James. But even so, I know you. There is something bothering you. And I need to know what it is about. This very instant,'said Lily in sharp tone and James winced.
'Well you should have known Lily.I want to know what Snivellus wanted with you,'James asked.
'OH!Is that it?'Lily said pretending that she was suprised, when all along she was expecting nothing
but this.
'Yes and are planning to tell me?'asked James facing Lily.
'I don't mind telling you at all James.IF I could assure myself that you wouldn't hurt him,'said Lily.
'I won't hurt him,' James said as earnestly as he could.
'You lie only too well.Your eyes speaks for you, James,'said Lily.
'Well I can't know, is it? Don't I have the right to know?'asked James.
'Yes, but I don't want you hurting anyone James,'said Lily.
'You mean a lot more to me than a friend Lily and you know it.I want to know what it is about,'said James.
Lily was startled. James hadn't said anything like that for a whole month.
'James.James.James. I'll tell you when the time comes. Alright,'Lily said turning her back at him.
'So that slimeball told you something that bad?'asked James rising his voice.
'What do you mean,'asked Lily looking at him.
'Well if you are refusing to tell me the reason what Snape wanted to talk to you about. It must have been something unpleasant, right?Because if so, I would have broken his bones,'James said.
'I'll tell you this James. He told me two things. Two things which was unpleasant to me and pleasant for him, thats all.Don't ask me anything more,'saying that Lily left James who was was confused as he was before.

'Hmmmm. So Moony.Full Moon is next week,'said Sirius and Remus groaned.
The Four Mauraders (yes, four) were sitting in a corner of the Common Room and were talking about the prank they played that morning. Which involved Snape's head growing twice the its original size(James gave them the idea) and Lily had just stormed at them and was currently beind relaxed by Amy and Irene.
'Why do you have to remind me this always Sirius?'asked Remus.
'I was just telling you...'said Sirius.
'And Peter you'd better turn up or else we'll bury you,'James said looking at Lily who was fuming across the room.
Peter winced.
Then James suddenly shouted out to Amy,'OY.Try a cheering charm,Amy.'
Amy beamed at him and gave him a thumbs up and then whipped up her wand.
'So on a brighter note we have Hogsmede weekend comming up.Planning to ask Lily out, James?'Remus asked.
'I dunno if it'll work, Remus. She likes me but I dunno if she'll go out with me. I could try once though,'said James sighing.
'Very True. So why don't you try now?' asked Sirius.
'NOW??'aske James.
'Yes, now,'Sirius replied patiently.
'You can'y play around with my life, Padfoot.Lily is talking to me now.And I don't want to let go this- probably the last- chance already,'James said.
'Come on James.Try,'Sirius insisted.
James suddenly got up and made up his mind.
He went over to Lily.
'Lily, can we talk?'he asked tentatively to the now calm Lily.
'Sure,'said Lily.
'I mean alone,'James said and the next second Amy and Irene were gone.
'What is it, James?'Lily asked quitely truely hating herself for what she was going to do.
'Well....Will you...come....I mean go...Lily will you go out with me???'James asked.
'James.....we've just started.I like you immensely. But...I need my space.And....I have reasons,'Lily said.
'How much longer are you going to make me wait Lily? What more do you want from me?'James asked in a hurt voice.
Lily's eyes reddened.
'I don't know James. I really don't know,'saying that Lily walked up her dorm stairs and vanished away from sight while James went out through the Potrait Hole.
From Meeeeeee:
Well there goes the first chance.......
Well like Lily said she has her reasons......
Cheers
The rest of the Mauraders and Amy and Irene heaved a sigh in frustration. They knew they'll end up
together.But When?
