Kidsday reporters interviewed actress Emma Watson
Newsday
Kidsday reporters interviewed actress Emma Watson, 15, who plays Hermione Granger in the "Harry Potter" movies, when she was in Manhattan recently. The latest Harry Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," was recently released on DVD.
Q. Have you ever met J.K. Rowling, the author of "Harry Potter"?
A. Yes. I normally see her every year.
Q. What do you have in common with your character, Hermione?
A. Everything. We are really, really similar. I used to deny it, but now I don't think it is a bad thing. She is kind of a role model for girls.
Q. Have you read any of the Harry Potter books?
A. Yes. Even before I started auditioning, I read the first three books. I was a pretty big fan.
Q. Is there anything you didn't like about the movie "Goblet of Fire"?
A. Probably one of the things I didn't like is that we filmed so much material. A lot of it gets cut. When you watch it for the first time, you realize that things have been cut out. You just think that there have been months and months of work that are just gone.
Q. Because of the Harry Potter movies, do your friends treat you any differently?
A. New people who meet me treat me differently, but my friends all treat me the same. They don't give me any special attention.
