In a way, I think it's because of plot restraints, but I do wish more effort had been put into it. Like I know I'm supposed to know Hermione is insecure of her looks and so on but as we never have a moment where she gets past it, we don't really get too much insight into it. For me, it would probably really help in endearing her to me. I don't relate to her at all so I don't feel like it but then I just can't see it also. But with Ron, I can feel it and see it. But seeing as each has what the other needs, they umm just have opposing qualities ? LOL.

yup dats rite....i guess itz cuz ron is d closest frnd of harry's...a lot closer dan hermy....n normally v gotto know dose fcts vch harry felt or knew....normally.......

I agree with chhilt. This really isn't a fair question, because Hermione was in the book way more than Ginny. Ginny only appeared in the beginning and ending of the first book (around 1.5%), 25% in the second book, barely any in the third book (2%), 5% in the fourth book, 30% in the fifth book, 40% in the sixth book, and 35% in the seventh book, whereas Hermione was in all of the books 100%. She was one of the trio, so we got to see much more character development in her, an insight into her personality, her likes, dislikes, etc. We actually feel her character, whereas we know next to nothing about Ginny except that she's Ron's sister, has red hair, and marries Harry. How's that enough to base an opinion, and that too by comparing her to Hermione, who is one of the main characters of the story?
Without Hermione, the books would have been totally different, whereas without Ginny, only some of it would have been changed.
It would have made more sense to say Hermione or Ron? or Ginny or Luna? I mean, come on, even Neville was in the story more than Ginny!
I think the main reason many people don't like Ginny in this forum is that we know too little about her, and barely anything about her personality or character, and her ending up with Harry, who's the "hero" of this fiction probably didn't go down too well with people.
But even then, I like both Ginny and Hermione equally, because they're kind of the same yet different. I feel that had we known the character of Ginny more, people's opinions might have been different.
I really can't choose between them, but since Hermione was winning by far, I gave poor Ginny my vote.😃
