Chapter 1 - Friendship or love?

While driving, several flashbacks went through Anchal's mind and she contemplated her decision. Kabir had expressed his love and wanted her to meet him. On the other hand, Ranvir was waiting for her too. She never thought she could make such a good friend within such a short time. But Ranvir had proved her every suspicion wrong and had won her trust like no other.

As Anchal thought over things, she found herself lost in a myriad of emotions. The past few days had been a whirlwind of feelings. The feeling of warmth, love and friendship.

But something was missing. Something seemed odd. Something just wasn't right. She didn't know what was bothering her but she had a gut feeling that something was amiss.

As her car neared the location mentioned by Kabir, she, for a moment considered stopping the car and go and meet Kabir. In that moment, she thought about all the moments that she had spent with him. From when he saved her life by giving her a mouth to mouth to saving her again from the goons, his changed behavior towards her, towards everything. From taking care of those close to her to thrashing Gaurav who dared to misbehave with her. Playing with kids like he was enjoying his life freely. And admitting that she was the one who made him change his ways and be a better person and that he had fallen in love with her.

As she thought about all those things, her heart fluttered. Somewhere deep within her, a voice told her that Kabir was always a good guy with a golden heart under the image of a devil. She was just so wrong about him. After all, he was just being protective of his brother. That was another thing about him that impressed her more, he loved his big brother with all his heart.

And now he was waiting for her, perhaps on their first date. She smiled. Things were happening just the way in a romance novel, where the bad boy changes himself under the influence of the heroine and falls for her. It was so typical and so damn romantic. Anchal giggled at the thought. It was like she was living almost every girl's dream.

Her car was parked at the side of the road by the time her endless chain of thoughts came to a halt. Her decision was final. She would let Ranvir know that she wouldn't be able to come due to some 'emergency'. After all, it wasn't a lie. She had a very important meeting, with her potential 'future boyfriend'. Anchal blushed as she imagined Kabir's smiling face.

She opened the door and was going to step out when suddenly a jolt of cold strong wind forced her to sit back. And just like that, she was hit with a sudden realization

Did she love Kabir?

She didn't know the answer. Not yet. It was a matter of heart. So she let her heart decide. But her heart seemed as confused as her mind. And she just knew, that it was not the right time. She wasn't ready for whatever was to happen with the new development between her and Kabir. But something from the corner of her heart told her not to step out.

And she closed the door. She had finally made up her mind.

***

Ranvir had been pacing back and forth, the calm and calculative shrewd businessman found himself utterly nervous. He had always been good with planning and sealing deals. He had a way of surprising, even at times shocking the people who worked with him. Sometimes with his charm or aura. Sometimes with his clever and witty words and decisions. His actions were so unexpected at times that they would be left dumbfounded. All his life, he was used to being mysterious, confident and controlling and handling the situation the way he had wanted and needed.

But today was no other day. What was to happen today was no such thing he had faced before. Proposing Anchal was nothing like sealing the deal of a multi million project. Confessing love was not a calculative move. And he definitely couldn't keep himself calm no matter how much he tried. That shrewd businessman was lost somewhere. And the Ranvir Raichand waiting for the arrival of the love of his life was a hopeless romantic.

He didn't have measured words. He couldn't think straight. All he knew was that he wanted her with his mind, body and soul. So much that it hurt. He never felt the need of having someone or something in his life so bad. Anchal was a fulfillment of the emptiness he didn't know had existed in his life.

He never believed in love at first sight. Heck, he never believed in love in the first place. And Anchal's entry in his life had hit him with a blow. He was awed, mesmerized and bewitched by her every single time they met. Even at the times when she vehemently accused him of being a vicious criminal. He laughed lovingly at the thought. Anchal had no idea how bewilderingly captivating she looked when she was angry or aggressive. He had seen no other like her ever before.

She had become a habit of his. Good or bad he couldn't decide. Maybe good because she made his life heavenly, bad maybe because it seemed nearly impossible to get rid of her thoughts capturing his mind whole day and night. He had never felt something so overwhelming, so enchanting. He didn't know what love felt like but whatever he felt for her couldn't be anything but love. He smiled. He was acting like a lovesick puppy. And he didn't mind as long as it concerned 'her'.

The light sound of footsteps grabbed his attention. All of a sudden, his form stiffened and he took a deep breath. With his chest swelling up with hope, he turned around with gleaming eyes.

And he was not disappointed. There she was standing, wearing the shoes that he had gifted her. The symbol of their equality and the essence of being companions. She had a half smile adorning her face like always. And at that moment the never ending journey of time seemed to seize, as they continued staring at each other, smiling, silently. After all, words weren't needed where two could play the game of speechless perception.

Hey AanVir fans! I changed the storyline a bit where Anchal goes to meet Ranvir instead of Kabir. And I have a number of surprises for you. Hope that you will love this story. For AanVir <3

Chapter 2 - Faith

"Aman! Aman!"

Mrs Srivastava's voice echoed through the living room but unfortunately no one answered. She turned the stove off and cursing her son, strode towards the door.

"This lad is of no use-"

She stopped her blabbering as her eyes fell on her daughter, standing at the doorstep, an unreadable expression on her face. Anchal didn't say anything. She just walked past her mother and plopped down on the couch. Mrs srivastava hastily closed the door and followed her daughter. She sat down next to her and gently placed a hand on her shoulder

"Anchal, is something wrong beta?"

The blank face of her daughter worried her. She knew that Anchal was not the kind of a person who would give that type of reaction to something mild. That meant something appalling had happened. Anchal finally spoke,

"Maa, Ranvir proposed to me."

Her voice was soft and light.

"What?"

Mrs Srivastava nearly squealed

"But you said that Kabir loved you!"

"And now Ranvir said that he loves me too and-"

"And?"

"And... I said yes."

Anchal's voice was hardly audible this time.

"What?!"

Mrs Srivastava shrieked again. This time though, it was enough to grab the attention of her 'good for nothing' son, who made his way into the living room.

"What is all that noise for?"

Aman inquired daring a glance at his mother. But she was too busy to even look at him as she stared blankly into space reciprocating her daughter.

Aman narrowed his eyes. He waved his hands in front of the daydreaming duo in vain.

"Hey! Ladies! What's wrong with you guys?"

Still the two didn't move. Aman's patience was wearing thin

"Will someone please tell me what the hell is going on?"

"I'm marrying Ranvir."

Anchal's voice was merely a whisper.

"What?"

This time, it was Aman's turn to yelp.

"Ranvir? Ranvir Raichand? You are- what? Getting married to The Ranvir Raichand! Have you gone mad Di?"

"Yes I have."

Anchal said in a cool, calm tone.

Aman looked as helpless as a drowning man.

"Why Di?"

"Because he proposed to me."

"And you said yes? Just like that?"

"Yes I did."

"Why did you say yes to him Anchal?"

Mrs Srivastava was finally out of her spellbound state.

"I don't know mom... it just seemed the right thing to do at the moment."

Anchal's voice was filled with an unfamiliar certainty as she remembered the events of the evening.

***

As Anchal drove towards her destination, the face of Ranvir flashed in her mind, and she unknowingly smiled. The first time they met, Anchal had no idea, things would turn out the way it had for them. There was a time when she used to look at him with abhorrence, thinking he was a heinous rapist and murderer. But as time passed, and they got to know each other more and more, she couldn't help but agree that Ranvir had claimed a special place in her heart. She couldn't put her finger on it, but she had seen no man like Ranvir. The moment she truly got rid of the wicked profile she had in her mind for him, she could see beyond. And the man who graced her gaze, was the complete opposite she thought him to be. He was a man of his word. He was calm, calculative and yet unbelievably gentle, kind and respectful. He was a true friend who would go to any extent to protect the ones he cared for. He wasn't very good with expressing his feelings. But his eyes spoke a lot, which compensated more than enough for the unspoken emotions.

He was simple. Even if he could lead a glamorous life, which he was more than capable of, he liked to keep it subtle. He didn't like crowds. He was more fond of a life where he could just breathe in peace and not worry about what others might think about him.

Ranvir Raichand had undoubtedly made Anchal wonder if men like him actually existed. Or it was all a mere show? A tiny doubt would still play peek a boo from the nook of her mind, but she was sure she would be able to overcome it eventually. After all, he was the one who said that everything has it's own time, you just need to give more time. She smiled again.

How could be a man so enigmatic? He walked with a pride as if he owned the world yet when she talks to him, he seems like the most down to earth person she had ever come across. He spoke with such prudence yet he would laugh like a happy-go-lucky person when amused.

Anchal again considered shooting the question,

"Who are you Ranvir Raichand?"

But somehow knowing the answer didn't feel necessary.

***

Ranvir kept staring as Anchal took the steps towards him. His smile seemed to broaden with each passing second. He couldn't help himself. After all, he was a man in love.

"Hi."

Anchal said tenderly. The way Ranvir was staring at her made her nervous. Involuntarily, her cheeks turned crimson. She had no idea why she was blushing and that made her slightly embarrassed.

What was he gonna think? She tried to ease her heavy breathing. This guy had no idea what he could do to her. And even Anchal was surprised to find herself in a state where she was so much affected by his simple gesture. Something was definitely changing. She only prayed in mind that the change happens for good.

"Are you just gonna stand there gawking?"

Anchal tried to make herself sound amused. And she was astonished when Ranvir blushed.

"I am really sorry Anchal. But you look great."

He gave her that charming smile. Wait what? From when she started finding his smile charming?

Anchal was glad that Ranvir had invited her to sit before things could get more awkward. The table for two was finely decorated. It was not exaggerated yet was simply beautiful. One of the things she loved about him. Ok she definitely needed to hold her horses.

Anchal dared a glance at Ranvir and found him gazing at her. There was something entirely different in those big beautiful eyes. Something deep, fathomless, enigmatic- just like him.

There was a spark in his eyes that made Anchal gulp and she instinctively lowered her gaze.

"Do I look so bad that you can't keep your eyes on me?"

He was back with his amused tone.

Anchal blushed again. What was wrong with her? She scolded herself mentally.

"Your gaze is captivating. That's why I had to look away."

Ranvir smiled

"Well! At least I went from being confusing to be captivating. Progress. Must be my lucky day!"

He emphasized on 'Lucky day'.

Anchal didn't know what to say. She just put on a bright smile.

A waiter came with a trolley and the environment became light just for several minutes.

"So, you said we needed to discuss something important."

Anchal said taking her eyes off of the delicious food being served by the waiter. She found that they all were her favorite. Just like Ranvir had surprised her back in Mauritius. This man never failed to impress.

"Yes. It is very important to me Anchal."

His voice was intense. Somehow it sent a tingle down her spine.

Just as the waiter left the scene, Ranvir stood up and extended a hand towards her. Anchal looked at him dubiously.

Ranvir gave a half smile

"Dance with me."

Anchal gulped again as she placed her hand in his. Suddenly soft, slow music started playing and Ranvir wrapped his other hand around her waist and pulled her close.

Anchal gasped. She suddenly had goosebumps. Ranvir's eyes had turned a shade darker and the warmth of his body invaded her space. She had never felt like this before. Their proximity was electrifying each and every nerve endings of her body. She didn't know if she was a good dancer herself or it was just Ranvir who swayed her precisely to the music. His list of talents was endless without any doubt. He spun her around and as she faced him again, he dropped down on one knee and held up a ring.

Anchal looked up into his eyes and all of a sudden found herself enthralled.

"Anchal, I don't know if I'm going to mess up my words or not. I'm just not in a very good condition right now but..."

He smiled lovingly as he held her gaze

"From the moment I saw you, you had me intrigued. I have never been so captivated by someone ever before. I was bewildered by your integrity, bravery... beauty."

Anchal opened her mouth but no words came out.

"I... I have never felt like this before Anchal. I love you. Maybe I have loved you from the moment I saw you first. I don't know if it sounds stupid. But, I just know that I have been captured by your thoughts ever since I've known you."

Ranvir paused to breathe.

"All my life, I never thought that I would ever fall in love. But I guess love is just like that. It happens when you least expect it. I never knew that I was missing something until you came along. And you have turned my world upside down. Will you grace my world with your presence? Can you love me back? Will you be mine Anchal?"

Anchal's eyes glistened. His pleading gaze was her undoing. She never thought he could be so vulnerable. In an instant, she perceived that this was the man who knew what she wanted even before she uttered a single word. He was the one who helped her come out of the toxic cage of suppressed emotions she had been trapped for years. And he was not only a friend. He couldn't be. He was much more than that. In that moment, a smile crept up on her lips, tears rolled down her cheeks and only a single word came out of her mouth

"Yes. I will Ranvir.

Ranvir's face broke into a dazzling smile as he slipped the ring on her finger. He stood up and looked deeply into her eyes. He cupped her face gently and kissed her forehead. Anchal's hands closed around his wrists. She sighed in peace and let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding; as Ranvir pulled her into an embrace. The two stood their, in each other's arms with a peaceful silence.

***

Anchal smiled looking at her mother

"Maa, I just know whatever I did was right. And that's the only thing that matters. I'm going to take things slow. But somehow I know that I'm not wrong.

"Beta, getting married to a man you just met isn't taking things slow.

Mrs Srivastava was far away from being convinced.

"I know how it looks like mom. But trust me, I only agreed because I believe that I know him enough. And maybe, it can be a mistake too. But everyone makes mistakes right? Only time will tell.

"But Di-"

"Aman please.

Anchal knew that her brother was going to lecture her about the menacing Raichands' for the hundredth time but she was too exhausted to bear it.

"We'll talk later. I'm gonna sleep now. I've been through a lot today.

She made her way towards her bedroom leaving her mother and brother stupefied.
