'I play a desi Robin Hood'

Ashish Sharma plays Avdesh Singh, a gangster with a heart of gold.
That's what Ashish Sharma says about his role in Gunahon Ka Devta. A chat with the actor about featuring on the small screen, playing a lovable gangster and his future projects.

After Salman Khan's Robin Hood inspired role as Chulbul Pandey in Dabangg, Ashish Sharma (who made his acting debut in Dibakar Banerjee's Love, Sex Aur Dhoka) plays a similar role on the small screen. Sharma's character in the serial, Avdesh Singh, is a gangster with a heart of gold. Singh respects women and is willing to punish his fellow gangsters if they tease any women, quite like Pandey in Dabangg. But quiz Sharma about it and the actor, who is a huge fan of Salman Khan, quickly denies it. He says, "Avdesh Singh is not as eccentric as Chulbul Pandey. He is a balanced man of few words. Avdesh Singh's character is loosely inspired by Prakash Shukla, a gangster from Uttar Pradesh. Set in a crime- infested town in eastern UP, the show portrays Avdesh Singh as the leader of a dreaded gang of criminals. But he is also revered for his intrinsic goodness. Avdesh is like a desi Robin Hood."

Sharma, who played a struggling actor in LSD, has managed to cash in on the success of the film. But the shift from the silver screen to television wasn't that easy for the actor. "A film shoot usually wraps up in a couple of months. But television shoots involve longer hours of work. Initially that proved to be a huge challenge for me. But now I have got used to it," he says.

Sharma had to attend numerous workshops to get his diction. "I am from Jaipur so the UP accent was new to me. I had to attend workshops to get the right accent. My mannerisms also had to be worked on." But the biggest challenge for the actor was giving up his six-pack abs for a more leaner look. "That upset me the most. I had worked for months to get those six-pack abs," he adds. Does he regret shifting from films to television? "Not at all. I'll continue to do films too. A lot of people thought that it was a foolish step to move to television. But for me it is all about the creative satisfaction I get. I was initially apprehensive about taking it up. But after reading the script I agreed to be a part of it as the plot was very interesting."

Acting comes naturally to Sharma who was actively involved in theatre while he was at Jaipur, but that didn't stop the actor from taking acting lessons in Mumbai too. "In Jaipur, I did almost everything from regional theatre to Shakespeare's plays. But when I shifted to Mumbai , I joined Anupam Kher's academy, Actor Prepares, to hone my acting skills." New to the city, Sharma has not been able to explore Mumbai due to his busy schedule. But that has not stopped the actor from watching Dabangg. Speaking about Salman Khan's role in the film, he says, "I totally idolise Salman. I watched Dabangg recently and in my opinion only someone like Salman could have pulled off such a role. He's a rockstar."

The Jaipur-based actor has fallen in love with the Mumbai city but misses his home- town at times. However, he doesn't plan to go back home soon. "I can't stand the slow pace of Jaipur anymore. I like staying in Mumbai as everyone is on the move," he says. Ask him how Gunahon Ka Devta will progress and he quickly replies, "As the serial progresses, Avdesh falls in love. But as he has grown up in an environment of crime and revenge he doesn't know what love is. But his attitude does undergo a change after that." As for his future plans, Sharma plans to continue acting in films along with television. Among the films lined up he has independent filmmaker Nidhish Puuzhakkal's Youthopia co-starring Abhay Deol, Pratik Babbar and Shruti Hassan, Arup Dutta's Dillogical and Nikhil Sinha's Alha Udal. Sharma will also be seen playing the lead in Puuzhakkal's documentary, Undertaker, which was selected for the Los Angeles Film Festival.

Zinda logon ke statue pehli baar dekhe ..........jokes actor Ashish Sharma as he talks about the changes he has observed in his recent visit to Lucknow!!

After making his presence felt on the big screen in Love,Sex Aur Dhoka, actor Ashish Sharma has taken a turn towards the small screen with his debut serial Gunahon Ka Devta. But for the actor, who has two movies Ashu Trikhas Zindagi Tere Naam and Alha Udal, slated for release, there were no apprehensions in appearing on the small screen. Why cant I have best of both the worlds he questions.I get bored easily.I cant stick to anything for too long. Moreover, how does it make a difference as at the end of the day all I am doing is acting! Plus,I feel that it is good to rule in hell than to be ruled in heaven, he winks.
But it is purely by chance that acting happened to Ashish. My parents wanted me to do a coaching for PMT as they wanted me to become a doctor. But I didnt want to be a doctor.I was always good at sketching, writing and painting and I knew that I will do something creative in life. So was it then that he decided to become an actor Naah! At that time I decided to do fashion designing and so I joined an institute for the same.I did my fashion designing course in apparel and during my college days when I acted in various plays in the fests,I realized how good I was at it.And then I started taking acting seriously and after passing college I tried my luck in movies and got lucky too!
Ashish, who plays Lucknows famous gangster Shri Prakash Shukla in the serial, says he had to do a lot of research work for the role.I always wanted to play a gangster on screen but never knew that I will get a chance so soon.I read a lot about the gangster online which has helped me to play the role better. What I could learn about him from the articles was that he was a very smart person who was quite witty and at time insane too, he says.
And just like his onscreen character which is shown to be quite shy,Ashish says that he is the same in real life too.Im not so friendly with girls. I cant talk to them much.
This is the reason why
one girl left me when I went on a date with her but didnt talk to her much, he laughs. And though that girl may have left her,Ashish now has a special girl in his life.I am not single and have been in a relationship for quite a long time.We both are pretty serious about each other and plan to settle soon.
For Ashish,it was his second visit to Lucknow and the dude feels that a lot has changed in the city since his last visit,a few years back. The first thing that I noticed on my way from the airport was Mayawatis statue.Zinda logon ke statue pehli baar dekhe hain maine, smiles Ashish.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/tv-/Nachle-Ve-with-Saroj-Khan/articleshow/6871026.cms

Saroj Khan and Terence Lewis have lined up something special for audiences this Diwali.

With them this week will be some good boys and bad boys of television along with their onscreen better halves. Ashish Sharma and Tanvi Bhatia of 'Gunahon Ka Devta', Karan Mehra ('Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai'), Alisha Khan and Sudeep Sahirr ('Behnein') Pooja Gor and Arhaan Behl of 'Pratigya' will be on the show. That's not all, Gaurav Chopra, Mouni Roy, Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Sheikh too are set sizzle this Diwali.

The actors are naturally excited. "In my show, I play this macho Avdesh Singh Thakur's character who has a golden heart, but there is no scope of him to dance on the show. I love dancing and this platform is a perfect opportunity for me to show my skills. Tanvi and I share a great rapport working on the show and it was good fun to dance together on 'Nachle Ve'," says Bhaiyaji aka Ashish Sharma.

Hey guys,

A another article in rediff.com about

Television stars are all set to spice up New Year's Eve, with a special show called Happy Ending 2010 on Imagine TV. Quite a few stars will feature on the show including Rakhi Sawant, Tanvi Bhatia and Ashish Sharma.

But before we watch them on screen, we decided to ask those very actors who they would like to see perform on New Year's Eve.

Click next to see who they chose.

Image: Tanvi Bhatia and Ashish Sharma

Ashish Sharma, known for his characterBhaiyaji in Gunahon Ka Devta, was also seen in Love Sex Aur Dhoka. He lists his choice:

I would love to watch Akshay Kumar perform because he is an eccentric, and a complete actor. He's witty, funny and worth every penny.

Money matters: I would happily pay 5,000 to 10,000 because that is what the organisers usually charge.

Tanvi Bhatia, who plays the female protagonist in Gunaho Ka Devta, lists her choice.

I would love to watch Rani Mukerji. I think she is a fabulous actor and I admire her a lot. She is one of the actors I really look up to.

Money matters: Are you joking? I would pay an amount equal to what I would pay to watch a film.

Arpita to die in Gunahon Ka Devta?

Arpita to die in Gunahon Ka Devta?

A major sequence is being shot today in Imagine's Gunahon Ka Devta wherein the protagonist Arpita falls off the terrace..

Imagine's Gunahon Ka Devta will see a major twist with the apparent death of the protagonist Arpita (Tanvi Bhatia).

As per the ongoing story line, Avdesh (Ashish Sharma) has been made to believe that Arpita has slept with Ranvijay (Vineet Kumar). Avdesh is in a dilemma and does not want to accept that his wife could betray him.

Our source states, "At this juncture Arpita confides the whole truth in Bauji (Nivedita Bhattacharya) and asks for her help. Arpita tells her that Ranvijay has faked some proof of her sleeping with him, and wants to brainwash Avdesh. Bauji promises to help her but eventually utilizes the situation to her advantage".

We hear that the team is shooting a major sequence today wherein Bhaiyyaji and Arpita celebrate their first wedding anniversary.

"Arpita dressed as a dulhan comes to seek Avdesh's blessings and this is when Avdesh confronts his wife and asks her to come clear about her relationship with Ranvijay. They have a huge argument on the terrace of the house at the end of which Arpita accidentally slips and falls off the terrace", adds our source.

When contacted, Tanvi Bhatia told us, "Yes, Arpita will die in the show. But I am not leavingGunahon Ka Devta. I am clueless as to what is planned next".

Is Arpita really dying?

Get to know the major twist in Gunahon Ka Devta.
