That she does, open herself up, embrace life and love - and whatever life is giving her, like Kesar says why does she seek solitude and so on
Also now that deeyarvatu thing is somewhat not forced upon giving an option of a way out in the 3 months, it might just somewhat let her breathe and let down a certain guard she has around her, which i think shifted yesterday to some extent
Kesar is the man, in one swift - he let her knew, this is about her, this is her, his love for her, his selflessness, what he wishes for her... only and only Kesar sees the real Gulaal, however much she tries has a wall built around her, and that he loves her so much

JZee, In response to your thoughts about Motaba,
Motaba was someone who was strictly against this relationship as soon as he came back from hospital after his brief episodic "Jamna Kaki's behavior induced coma". Gulaal refused to break the marriage and also threatened to leave home never once explaining to him till date, her reason to marry Kesar.
Motaba already knew about Dushyant's intentions but is not aware of Raman pushing Chotu Kesar down from the terrace. He was the one who was scandalised when he was prowling over in the middle of the night outside his DIL's room seeing the child Kesar accidentally put his leg on Gulaal when he turns over in his sleep. He went to the extent of sending him away saying it is unhealthy to let him live with Gulaal now that he was growing up. He also went on to tell Gulaal next day that only a man can understand a man's psyche when she resisted saying Kesar needs her to be taken care of.
I think Motaba has really been this way since when Durgesh's men insulted him. That was the day Kesar returns from hostel and goes and beat them up. He has had no say in the turns of events at home since then.

Okay fine, I give in... Lily. :)

How can anyone not like Gulaal, seriously? & last night's episode was a WHOPPER to say the least. I think I'm even more in love with Kesar than before now, if that's possible. How he transformed from this immature Imma-have-my-way tween to this sensible man-boy!! ☺️ I'm going to admit, though, I was half-expecting a dramatic "I'm setting you free, Gulaal" but man, was the scene worth the watch! & Talli, I could've kissed her. She sure turned out to be the surprise package, considering everyone's previous comments on how dumb & spineless she is (/was never?!). Up uptil last week Talli had been the terrorist, & now she's Talli the saviour, LOL.

But Kesar is obviously the star of this week (which has barely begun ^^). I love love love his expressions as he speaks to Gulaal, his dejection cum determination.. Gulaal thinks he's upto his old tricks but she's caught off guard. Uff, the manner in which he spoke to her! *floats* I didn't know how he was going to go about it, but he definitely had me at apraadh.
☺️ Not exactly the word to swoon on, but anyway. >_> Daaamn... Kesar is the very epitome of too-hot-to-handle. 😆

*comes back to my senses* Can I just say that I love how the CVs didn't make him think about their relationship alone? I'm eternally grateful for him to know that this is not just about her losing Vasant & not being able to accept him as her husband. This is about how she's destroying herself, how she never smiles. After Vasant's death, she possibly hasn't enjoyed anything in life & this is saying a lot given how fun-filled & vibrant she used to be. Even last week, when Reva came she barely smiled to see her old friend. & Kesar would know better than anybody how much she has changed in the past 10 years but he had been too busy consumed with his love for her to be bothered about this change in character. He finally kept himself, his relationship with her (& love in general!) aside. Thank the good lord!

Loved the panchayat scene too, but nothing can beat the 1st half of the episode. Even so, I have to mention the wonderful point Dushyant made that you touched on. How Kes-Gul were disrespecting the custom of Deeyarvattu & how the panchayat has been brought forth too many times, without giving much thought to the gravity of their situation as if marriage were a small thing to debate on. This is not only about the Deeyarvattu but the sanctity of marriage itself.
You know, like you, I'm amazed at how these CVs have managed to make such a traditional drama without being preachy at all. Seriously.

I don't know whether anyone else noticed/mentioned this but Kesar looked really disappointed when Gulaal says she wants the Deeyarvattu to be broken as well. My heart truly went out for him, he just seemed so heart-broken... Of course, I doubt he decided on this with hope in his heart that she will somehow remain with him, but I guess it's human nature to be disappointed. Perhaps the finality of the situation dawned on him when Gulaal declared her decision. =/

P.S. Do I even need to say I can't wait for tonight?!

Well I am, in part (:

Ahhh where do I begin about today's epi...you've said it all...all the turning points, the significant moments in the epi...there was just so much today that I feel like I need to rewatch it a few times to truly get a full sense...lol - oh you're not the only one! I must have watched the GK bedroom scenes 8 times by now! Its like reading poetry - you seem to discover more meaning every time!

The Kesar-Gulaal night scene was obviously the highlight as everyone's mentioned in other posts too...what really struck me about this scene was how it surprised me...given all that we'd seen of Kesar's largely ziddy and many times childish behavior over the past 2 weeks, I was expecting something similar or maybe some kind of admission of defeat based on what we'd seen of the precap from last week but boy was I surprised and in such an AWESOME way...haha...the writing in this show once again proving that there is a reason why we've come to expect quality from the writers...@ bold - WORD. We were all expecting Kesar to break off the deeyarvattu because he's finally seen light of the dark truth; but that his mind actually grew to the extent of understanding the root cause of Gulaal's mindset, better than she dares to examine and understand herself - was phenomenal. I think the most powerful line had to be the one where he tells her being a widow and leading that life is not a matter of pride or happiness. From the instance of this seeyravattu itself, Gulaal has established for her own self, even more than for others, this kind of glossy wall wherein she can believe she's leading a life of honor that few women can, or do. In one blunt take, Kesar's shatters her precious make belief! She had broken inside with the going of Vasant and had in reflex built up this shied around her, of being a woman extraordinaire - a paradigm of widow-pride and stature... and kesar only brought her back to the harsh reality she has shunned for years - that she is a widow, and that it can't be and isn't a happy disposition for her - this way or that! anyways getting back to the scene...I'd thought there would be some admission of guilt, regret...etc...but no, instead even after all that Talli said to Kesar to make him realize that his methods were wrong in a sense...even after all that he went and said THIS to Gulaal...which proved his evolution as a character, as a mature man! Every single point was SO awesome and there were just SO many nuances in that scene that it's hard to really get down to cataloguing them...dialogues were superb! The back and forth...Kesar's PERCEPTIVENESS...Gulaal can deny this till kingdom come but the way KESAR knows her, NO ONE does...he KNOWS what she's hiding behind...I especially loved his point that it's not a matter of PRIDE that she's a widow...she seems to wear it as if it's some kind of badge of honor...he so shattered that illusion of hers...she's marked herself as some kind of mahaan martyr over this...second awesome point...that would she expect VASANT to spend the rest of his life crying in front of her portrait like this?? The fact that she's killed the WOMAN inside her...REFUSING to allow that woman to even SMILE...to laugh...to LIVE...as if it's a SIN to do any of these things...and for a change he threw Gulaal off-balance...especially with the APRADH line... Lol! At that point I was thinking of the irnoy of change of positions - how Gulaal has been shoving 'paap doing' in his face for a week... and now he comes up with apraadh - but no, not to show himself as wronged at her hands, but to shine light on her self destructive ways!

I could go on and on about this scene...lol...Neil was awesome in this scene...so was Manasi...but I think Neil stole the show in this one...oh and I have to say I LOVED the end...when Gulaal says, "bas kar nahin toh..." and Kesar interrupts explosively..."nahin toh KYA?"...Man, the emotion in his eyes...the voice modulation...superb! And I love his "dhamki dene ki koi zaroorat nahin hai" line...LOLLL
To be honest - Neil took the cake, because this was his moment, his scene. And I'm going to take nothing away from his credit of executing it to the T. But I thought Mansi was epic in her silent but distinct variation of expressions! In my opinion, even better than many of her other power packed, much more dialog oriented scenes. To show she is overwhelmed, encroached, scared, and defiant all at once - 👏

Now coming to the rest of the epi...significant moments...

I loved the way the panchayat scene was handled...once again the sanctity of the system maintained...all that Dushyant said was so valid...that both K and G had made a joke out of this system as well as their deeyarvattu...and I loved his ruling...first PROVE that THIS time your decision is FINAL...given that both of them have previously demonstrated evidence of going back and forth on this issue...ANYONE will ask...can we REALLY trust your decision at THIS point? Do you REALLY know what you WANT? Your deeyavattu is not a joke...and that is precisely why Dushyant gave them this trial period...to give them time to dwell on this relationship, their decision...

What really excites me ofcourse is that this has shifted the dynamic...NOW as they co-habit that house (or maybe that room) for 3 months, Gulaal can't have the same cold mutinous lockdown attitude towards Kesar...yes she won't mellow overnight but a MAJOR wall DID come down...it was evident throughout the rest of the epi...first their shared glances during the panchayat...everything form the ruling onwards...they SHARED that shock...they SHARED that protest that was verbalized by Kesar...lol...I found it so amazing how their body language became in tune...you see it in the subtleties.

Yes. The CV's totally went for the kill with showing GK on one side. Willingly, or compelled to. Every moment, after his formal announcement of wishing to break the deeyarvattu - was a moment showing the wall had begun to crumble. It wasn't as rapid as Kesar's reaction to when Gulaal had given in to his wedding with Talli act - but then, that's always been there difference. It takes Kesar only an instant to realize, whatever he's on the brink of realizing, and then snap - decisions, decisions, decisions! He's totally the believes in action man, isn't he?!

This continued on to the end scene with Motabha...the camera angles are highlighting this too as Lennie pointed out above...putting them both in the same frame...the way they look at each other now...especially the ending shot...as Kesar watches Motabha walk away and turns to Gulaal with almost this 'what do we do now?' expression and for a change her eyes aren't cold...they share a long look...SOMETHING will bind them now...they are already on that path...

I'm so intrigued to see the next KG convo...lol...hopefully they get a chance to talk in tomorrow's epi. - Aaah! I've spent enough time lapsing into speculating about that all day so far. I can just imagine, and only imagine - but never really know until the CVs pull their rabbit! 😆

Re: Talli...you know I have to agree with you...I can see that as of now she's all like encouraging Kesar and stuff but I feel this won't last long term...eventually they will turn her grey for sure. - I suppose so. It seems like a question of when, not if, to me... like I said last week.

You raise an excellent point Fivr - there was no guilt, whatever else there was. It was obvious, also, from the way his revelations were not simply about how he must not break this forced bonding, but also went as far and wide as analyzing why and what was never falling place between Gulaal and him. It's like the revelation that had hit Gulaal in the instant of first learning about Vasant's death, had been left long suspended and never became a complete accepted fact - Kesar completed the circle of understanding and comprehension. His most powerful dialog as I said before - was the one where he tells here there is no pride in being a widow, it's simply sad and unfortunate, and she cannot live deceiving herself with how hermit like, and beyond the mortal human it makes her to be living this life of serve all purpose, because its not going to fill in the gap anytime soon. He's broken her greatest illusion, because although Gulaal possibly even accepts to herself that she has stopped to be one of the happy people, she was feeding off this innate belief of pride in being so saintly. It was eating up her insides, and she was letting it happen, because that's what she was striving on! Again, 10/10 to the CVs to actually get Kesar to think along those lines in a moment that should have merely shattered him, and packed him off on a guilt trip - no he retained his wits, and used them better than ever before. It gave him dark conclusions, but he's never been the one shying away anyway - he's only been too blissfully oblivious so far.

Also with reference to the DV scene - I realized how this show has come round in a full circle - again! If we consider Gulaal as a show that brings to fore a wrong practice in the name of customs in a part of the country - I think it's beautiful how the CVs present the picture without being judgmental or preachy. They are presenting deeyarvattu as simply what it is - a practiced custom. They have not justified it - because Gulaal's entire engulfed feeling of being subjected to paap is depicting of those among such clans who are forced into the practice, but never happily; while the likes of MB, PB, and even Kesar now, not to mention the people of that house and village, and even the Panchayat is representation of that side of people who are so groomed into a system that they don't perceive it as forced like an outsider would imagine. To an outsider it might be a suffocating practice, one where an individual cannot live their life on their terms - but interestingly, when people are groomed into certain values, or rituals, or set ups, it becomes so ingrained in them - that they don't always find themselves as trapped by the norms as one wold imagine. Gulaal for example has been groomed into a system where a woman after marriage has the sole purpose of living the life of the new house, and devoting herself t its every cause - she does it. For doing it, she stifles every thing about the person she is, and not under any force, but simply because that is what her mind has been tuned and trained for. However, deeyarvattu doesn't come to her so naturally, because that depicts a minor side of society which thinks otherwise about customs, and doesn't always deem them right. Either way - the CVs do not pass their judgment of right or wrong - but leave it to the audience.

Lovely lovely post - love your way of writing and the clarity of your thoughts... I'm sure I'm not the first on this Forum to applaud you...

Sometimes I wonder - have the CVs themselves even explored these nuances?😳

Keep it up and keep them coming - reading them ia as nice as waiting to see the episode...

Best 👏

Fivr, you finally posted this like 3 in the morning?? Man I couldn't wait up that long...I went off to sleep😆

It starts off with that intial diya bit and I've been divided on what that little hint could mean - does it mean that Kesar is now going to be the "gust of wind" who's going to shake Gulaal out of her ignorant (and stubborn) desire to live her life SOLELY with Vasant's memories and denying herself any happiness in the process..? OR does it mean that Gulaal will now come to realize that Kesar is also just as important to her (and maybe to the same extent if not more) as Vasant was, even though she fails to recognize it at the moment..? I mean, if I had to pick between the two, I'd really go with the former - with Kesar being the mirror (as you said) that shows Gulaal the truth! 🤔 I wrote my reply to this in another post but I think this can be interpreted on multiple levels...there is no clear set answer...there are too many elements to the scene...for we see that the moment Kesar's reflection falls on Vasant's portrait and in a sense "merges" with it for a bit...the flame flickers...for sure, Kesar is that gust of wind that is bringing about a "storm" in Gulaal's life...the flame represents Gulaal's undying pining for Vasant I'd say...and Kesar upsets that balance that it brings to her...the comfort it brings to her...he doesn't let her be in that limbo...which is why she instantly reaches out to steady it...representing Gulaal's stubbornness and refusal to think of a life beyond that flame...what intrigues me more is what they are trying to show with Kesar's reflection in Vasant's portrait...they've shown this a few times before also...beautiful camerawork...I also am more liable now to believe that Kesar represents a mirror showing the truth to Gulaal...that reflection represents the truth that Gulaal refuses to acknowledge...the implicit truth that Kesar is as much a part of her in his own way as Vasant was/is...neither is meant to replace the other...and she can't run forever from the truth of what Kesar means to her as well.

But really, it is when he actually starts talking - when he breaks right through her facade, right from the first word.. That she starts to realize that she cannot ignore his words by dismissive them as "childish" or "selfish".. He's seen through to her, through her own stubborn decision to put up this WALL between the girl/woman that she was and the outside world. That she CHOOSES to live her life as a skeleton of who she really used to be.. And that she feels that it's a matter of pride - that it highlights her LOVE for Vasant when really it insults the WOMAN Vasant did love to begin with! And with EVERY passing statement you can just see the restlessness (that has now gone missing from Kesar) present itself in Gulaal.. In the way she grits her teeth as she watches and hears every word out of his mouth, wide eyed and defiant! How she struggles against his claims, refusing to let the wisdom of those words seep in.. Or how she turns away from him, as if physically (and unsuccessfully) trying to prevent him from seeing through to her.. And finally, how she tries to silence him through threats - threats that she now knows hold no bearing on him because he's realized that he HAD nothing he could loose to begin with..Cannot express how much I LOVED this back and forth...SO well written and SO well enacted...First, like you said, the THEHRAAV in Kesar today...he was in control, command of the situation from the moment he stepped into the room...Gulaal tried all her tactics...from first ignoring his statements and trying to change the topic, then trying to dismiss him in general but he persisted...'you can't ignore me today, Gulaal...because this is important for YOU...so you will have to listen'...and I love how bit by bit, he chipped away at that wall...you could see the chinks...first with the apradh line...you see the jolt it gives her...then again she tries to put up a dismissive expression...btw here I have to say I *loved* Kesar's "aur woh aurat koi aur nahin...tu khud hai, Gulaal"...there was almost a catch in his voice as he said this...SUPERB voice modulation by Neil...anyways Kesar continues on...and with each statement, he keeps on jolting her and she keeps on trying to retreat into her shell...there's a bit in b/w where he's talking about how she wants to be ALONE even when she has a family around her...and Gulaal's reaction there is amazing to me...you see her speechlessness for a moment as her eyes widen and it's almost a realization...she moves her eyes around for a bit almost as if searching for a reply but she has none so you see the walls go up again as she again retreats behind her defenses and the coldness creeps back into her eyes as she tries to turn away...Manasi was brilliant in this bit.

Gulaal had so many shades to her in this scene too...like Jzee's mentioned in her later post...you saw her trying to maintain that balance b/w trying to hold on to her defense mechanisms, trying to be stone-faced, cold and yet constantly thrown off balance, surprised, then defiant again, then almost numb in some ways...This was never a woman to cower easily and that showed in this scene as well...and then ofcourse we see Kesar...the ONLY person who will NEVER back down in front of her either...if she can be defiant, so can he! lol...this is what I love about these two.

Gulaal had seemed so vulnerable in that scene - so bare and unprotected.. While simultaneously, Kesar has seemed so shattered FOR her - the way he beseeched her initially to realize just WHO she had been PUNISHING.. It's like he feels this immense pain for HER - for the Gulaal who has been held captive under the pretext of being a "happy widow".. by CHOICE.. *sigh* Kesar really did break all illusions about his "maturity" or "selfishness" today - if either of those were being questioned due to his methods in the past and if ever his priorities were being doubted in light of how he was behaving, then this conversation of his puts all that to REST in one swift blow. He has ALWAYS placed Gulaal's happiness above EVERYTHING else and that is ALL he has ever desired - and though his questionable methods overshadowed these intentions of his in the past, the truth that they were in fact the ONLY reasons/motivations for his actions cannot be refuted from here on out. *awed muh* *sigh* Word, Fivr! This is what makes this character SO amazing! What Gulaal means to him...how his heart breaks FOR her...for what she's DOING to herself...she may dismiss him and his love as selfish but today once again Kesar proved that his love for her is above himself...his entire existence is for HER...he wants HER to live, not merely EXIST. And to think this much for someone else, how is it really selfish and immature ultimately? Yes, he makes mistakes in his methodologies sometimes...but his intentions can never be doubted.

And how Gulaal looks genuinely surprised/caught off guard at his decision - it's like she'd NEVER expected such maturity from him.. That she'd always dismissed everything he did as the rampant doings of a tantrum-prone child.. And with this one decision, he has reminded Gulaal that he is NOT a child and even though she chooses to ignore his comments with prejudice, it does not invalidate the LOGIC that they hold.. I really do think that she had absolutely NOT expected such a display of reason and sincerity from Kesar. LOL I loveddd Gulaal's shock...you know I was waiting for this very reaction😆...and I loved how she was basically STUMPED by his decision...like she didn't have anything to say for a while and you could SEE the wheels turning in her head frantically trying to make sense of what just happened...she thought she had everything figured out and she KNEW what he'd say but oh no, Gulaal ji...once again you misjudged Kesar and yes indeed is most definitely not the child that she WANTS to dismiss him as.

But then Kesar toh aisa hi hai - he never does anything for pretense.. Jab ghussa ata hai, toh bol deta hai.. Jab bura lagta hai, toh bol deta hai.. Jab pyaar hua, tab bhi bol diya.. Jab shaadi ko ley k confuse tha, tab bhi bata diya.. And now when he realizes k he is WRONG, toh bhi he has no qualms about owning up to his mistake and apologizing.. Which in my opinion makes him a bigger man than he's given credit for, due to his age. Worddd👏👏...A man who has the courage to admit his mistakes, the courage to take such big decisions...with full honesty, earnestness...that man deserves every respect👏

And it really touched my heart when Kesar is standing there, his head bowed, as the panchayat asks Gulaal for her decision.. It's like he KNOWS her answer and he KNOWS it's going to hurt.. And he's just preparing for it. But even then, when Gulaal does actually give consent to the breaking of the deeyarvatu, you can see the pain on his face.. Not because GULAAL said that the deeyarvatu should break (he had no illusions about that.. he KNEW that's what would happen).. I think it was just because having to hear yourself being rejected over and over again, does not in anyway make the ordeal any less painful.. You can prepare for it all you want, but in the end, whether you show it or now, it STILL hurts. Yeah I think once again this reiterates how HUMAN and real these characters are...Kesar knew what she would say, but obviously that doesn't lessen the hurt each time...and then ppl say Kesar's love is selfish...no, he is human...he doesn't try to be mahaan just for the sake of it...and ultimately he always puts GULAAL'S happiness above everything else even when she HERSELF can't see where her happiness lies.

I'm always in awe of how precise, and wholesome the dialog writing of this show is - how no character beats around the bush, and a point to be made, is always made.WORDD...the writing in this show is just BRILLIANT...the way each character expresses themselves...no beating around the bush, like you said...to the point...there is CONVICTION in the way this show has been written...then is it any wonder that we are drawn into the emotions of the characters?
