A single cough from Gulaal increases the worry in Kesar's eyes. So deep is the bond, I don't understand how Gulaal cannot read his eyes. Every small instance of happiness and sadness is shown in those eyes. Only Gulaal can't see that, because she is still looking for the comfort of old Kesar and not ready to face up to the challenges of a new Kesar. Kesar still seemed in a shock and dazed at the narrow escape on Gulaal's life. Neil's your eyes said it all, the worry, shock and pity towards both Gulaal and Talli for bearing the brunt of everyone's wrath.

I think this is the first time I saw Neil cry most fully. I've seen so many scenes where he has cried silently, each time it was moving. Here, he cried and spoke aloud, and it was fitting for Kesar. I liked the barren rocks he was sitting on, feeling as barren and lost as this stage in his life. Nice!
There have been so many contrasts in the feelings he expresses when crying. Each scene is somehow unique to the character or the mood at the time: for example, the powerful one when he cries to Vasant's picture was like a gash in the heart being torn...raw gut wrenching emotion, very powerful, that is my favorite so far. I recall when he starred in Karol Bagh, it was the scene when he was pleading with Simi to not force him to leave her, when he thought he was losing her, he was pleading and so anguished too, that he brought down the heavens with his tears. Now that was powerful too. The one above was more to expose his letter and his love I believe as the motivation.

The particular scene of Kesar reading out one of those letters he wrote as a child to Gulaal is going to remembered in Gulaal's history. It is so futile on my part to even attempt putting it down in words. I know it's unfair on my part to do so but let me at least have the happiness of failing in my attempt and to assert that Neil's performance is always beyond words.
All the pain and loneliness was brought out so well. It was refreshing to see a voice over of older Kesar as he read the older letter. It's easy to emote as you speak. But here Neil should get all the credit for bringing out those subtle expressions with the voice over in the background. That was superb. Though it was the elder Kesar's voice, we could see the sufferings of the younger Kesar through the letter. That is indeed commendable. For us viewers, especially us, who are watching after Neil's entry in the show, we can still get glimpses of the younger Kesar through the older grown up Kesar. The credit goes to Neil. The dubbing is so much in sync with all the emotions as Kesar read out his letter to Gulaal.

It started of showing Kesar partly in control of his emotions when he says 'Aaj bhi teri yaad aayi, aisa ek din bhi nahi jab teri yaad nahi aati ho, but why I don't talk to you, why I don't meet you when you come over??.

Hereafter there is a slow let down of his sadness and loneliness when he reads out "Why I don't reply to you when I am always in anticipation of your letters' and there is this desperation as he says "Kyun Gulaal??"
The voice modulations from here on is so perfect especially as he starts of saying "On one end, I don't like anything else without you around, and on the other hand I don't even want to come near you" . With a short pause after this to clear the welled up emotions in his throat, he continues "Ek taraf woh saari khushiyaan jo maine tere saath baante, woh pal joh maine tere saath bitaye'..There is a flow when he completes this dialogue, but when it comes to the next line, there is so much of anguish that is revealed here. He continues " Doosri taraf'woh'woh baatein'joh maine us din suni thi'..the pause after each word shows the impact that revelation from Gulaal has had on the young mind. The breaking of the voice here as he recollects the truth he has learnt showed how much that incident has affected him deeply. The main concern for him is about Gulaal's involvement.

"Sacchayi kya hai'main kaise jaanoon Gulaal'.Here again Kesar looks away in desperation and helplessness.

"Tu hamesha kehti thi''..kashmakash mei jeena padega". These lines showed the conflicting emotions in Kesar especially about having to endure the devastating truth, to come to terms with that information and also the pain to wait to grow up to understand life in a better perspective. He supports his head. Can I take it as a symbolism that this truth has been too heavy for him to handle as he questions himself and seeks answers within him (here it is whether he wants to believe Gulaal or not)

Mei kyun nahi samajh paata, tujhpar itna gussa kyun aata hai" has so much intensity of anger even in that stress on words. Kesar's voice just breaks down as he says "Teri itni yaad aati hai, ki rona aa jata hai". The timing in that falling of tears is perfect. Wonder if such little inputs are from Neil alone.

"Tu saamne hoti hai toh dekhna nahi chaahta, tu nahi hoti hai, toh aankhen tujhe dhoondti rehti hai" The shaking of those hands as this dialogue is read out shows his helplessness and inability to understand what makes him crave for her presence.

"Aakhir kyun mei chaahkar bhi tumse nafrat nahi kar paa raha hoon". This was a classic statement showing his deep lying love for Gulaal. The flickering of the headlights from his motorbike'Was that again a symbolism depicting Kesar's state of mind???Intentional if it was'that was superb.

Kesar has always shared a deep bond with Gulaal as a child. In fact in those older episodes, there were several instances where Kesar says Gulaal is his, he picked Gulaal as his wife but his Vasantba has flicked her from him, Cant I get married to the same girl as Vasant, etc, etc. Kesar has always claimed Gulaal to be his own. They did share a unique bond by being of help to each other and filling the void that Vasant's death had brought about in their respective lives.

Kesar is subconsciously attached to Gulaal. Her continued visits in spite of his indifference have had its influence that he believes in the unconditional love he has received from her. When she pointed out that yesterday that she would continue to love him whatsoever has burdened him all the more with the part realization and awakening of his unfailing love for her. It's just that he can't get himself to agree and has not realized the reason as yet. That is the reason he can't get himself to hate her though he wants to.

The truth has definitely shattered the innocence and the child in Kesar. He has grown up with this resentment. His dilemma still is the fact that he wants to hate her but can't. Imagine the plight of a youngster when his heart rules over his head and he has no control over his mind or himself.

The ending of the letter is the child Kesar's question "Kyun Gulaal??" It was sensible showing the older Kesar repeating the question out aloud. It showed that he is still in search of an answer and even after growing up(like Gulaal suggested), he is still not able to understand worldly issues.
The scene was only few minutes long. But the impact was just great. Neil, a heart-rending performance. Oh Boy, you made me cry. I have to admit that. Hats off to you. This scene left me wondering "Can pain, hurt, anguish and grief be so beautiful" . Looks like I have turned sadistic!!

Main aur meri tanhaayi, aksar baatein kiya karte hain...yes Kesar is so alone, inspite of everyone being there...loneliness is his only companion and khud se hi baatein kiya karte hain. The scene as Kesar was reading the letter he has writt...en to Gulaal and breaks down again, showed his deep sense of loss and loneliness. No need to even mention how Neil enacted this scene gave his full 100%. Looking forward to tomorrow, hope there are no interruptions between Kesar and Gulaal tomorrow. Sigh!!!! if wishes were to come true...kaash hope Gulaal's parents drop their idea of visiting their daughter.
Neil you are just awesome in your performance of a guy so tortured.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Camera work for the entire episode was awesome. The lighting through the subtle breeze gave the ambience for a powerful yet subtle exploration of Kesar and Gulaal's feelings for each other. I would not want to name it as romance and disparage the deep lying human emotions that bind Kesar and Gulaal

Gulaal wakes up to the breezing wind. There is a scene at the time of her wedding to Vasant. When her "Baraat" turns up, its only her who suddenly realizes that they are there. She is so overwhelmed and her friends ask her the reason for her racing pulse when she tells them this. Her friends tell her that it can't be, if not they would have heard crackers at least. But Gulaal insists to have a look from the balcony. And it so turns out that the Baraat headed by Kesar of course along with Vasant are very much on their doorsteps. Her friends tease her saying this is the first time they have literally seen what true love is. There was something similar shown yesterday. Gulaal wakes up and we see that Kesar has indeed come back riding his bike. Do we have an in-depth meaning to this scene, we need to wait and watch.

Gulaal's existence and presence there has a magnetic effect on Kesar. Now how does such feeling be conveyed through the scene? So we have here the breezing wind that draws Kesar towards Gulaal's room. Arrogant and fearless they have shown him as, but his moral ethics prevents him to go to her room. But hearing the falling glass is an alarm that he rushes for her help.

Recollecting the last spoken words between them, the silence and its awkwardness were beautiful. He is all sympathetic seeing her condition. Gulaal quietly cleans up the mess and drags herself to bed. But we must see her disappointment of not finding him there when she looks back.

The scene where he quietly walks in and then is loud enough to wake her up to hand over some water left one wondering after all what Kesar is upto. Gulaal is all surprised at his civility towards her. She is no pure saint either that she has to do all this "Nakhra"'Tu ne takleef kyun ki, mei khud laati'.Rakh do..baad mei pee loongi'.Now Kesar it's not going to be so easy with her. Did you think you can just hand her the water and leave in peace. Obviously you are forced to speak out. The reaction there is superb in having to reply to her and requesting her to drink. There was this slight ego in getting himself to tell her "Pee le"..Varna mai'.we did have glimpses of younger Kesar who used to assert his ways on Gulaal. The scene where he insists that she drinks the water, there is so much love and sympathy in his eyes when he pleads with her with a nod of his head to drink some water.

The want to reach out to her and touch her was lovable. But it was mixed with emotions of wanting to touch her, the hesitation and the refrain from doing so. He fought emotions and resisted that want so beautifully. But seeing her wincing in discomfort, he touches her to learn she is running a high temperature.

Her little tantrums never affected him and he just took control over her ways , gets her the medicines, forces her to have, fights with her for bringing on to this for herself. His statement to her that her attitude is always "Aa bail mujhe maar" showed how well he has understood her. His irritation is lashed at Talli for leaving her alone. Well he can have this expectation from his best friend but little did he know that the poor girl is fighting with the reality about her fate and destiny.

It came as a surprise when after this love-hate behavior from his end, he is so cool and comfortable sitting next to her and nursing her health. An added freshness and naturalness to the scene was when he sprinkled water on the wet cloth to maintain that wet. I don't know how to explain but that scene was somewhat lovely. At this juncture, it never occurred once that Kesar and Gulaal have been away from each other for 10 years. It was just like that they have never been apart and always been together all this time. It required an illness to break the ice between them. We have to wait to see how longer Kesar maintains this sweet self with her. It was lovely to see Kesar asserting his claim over her yet again, but this time differently. Gulaal has this smile on her face as he forces her to get up to have the medicine. And what more can she ask for. He is all set out to force the medicine in her mouth too. Kesar's love is hidden behind that "jhoota gussa" he seems to bring about as he chided her for her ways and not taking care of herself.

Ab tak kahaan tha Kesar???!!! Where have you been all this while, the Kesar that she knew him as. He answers her in a literal sense that he was out roaming with friends. But when she says "Maine who nahi poocha'.it does not take him long to realize the depth of the query she has put across to him. Well he does not want to answer her because he himself is unsure that he asks her to quieten down with his finger on her lips and go to sleep. There was this calm and serenity in Gulaal in finding that Kesar back when she is forced to close her eyes and go to sleep. And Kesar is all so full of love and care for her seeing her going to sleep.

The scene was superb in terms of performance from the actors. A romantic heart will keep this scene in memory for ever. Thinking in terms of practicality, Gulaal seems to enjoy the attention she gets from Kesar. She is emotionally bonded to him. She is disappointed when he leaves the room, she is happy when he nurses her. She enjoyed every minute of her time with him and Im sure she will cherish this forever. But what does she think she will do when she steps over in her sainthood state. She wants Kesar and Talli alliance. Will she expect that Kesar continues to do all the same things once he is married off. Will she sulk again in her loneliness that she has forced on herself? Will she be happy when she is going to be devoid of this love and care from Kesar. Gulaal today lived and relished every minute of Kesar's companionship. So what does she want in life. Will her self-righteousness prevent her from acknowledging her love for him or she will decide to live the momentary happiness before she takes a drastic step.
