Part 9 - The Babysitter's Baby's Promise

As the car turned around the edges of gates, all 3 bahus let out the breath, they had been holding. Finally 4 din ki shanti!

Durga glanced at AJ, who was also sighing in relief and concluded to herself, What Saru and Lakshmi had seen earlier was just their misunderstanding because a man enamoured with his wife is not supposed to look happy, on seeing her Leave!

Finally he could read his book, in peace, like on any ordinary Sunday. With that thought set, Akshat proceeded to his bookshelf and was pulling out a book, when a folder fell down. Quizzically, he picked up the folder and was shocked to see the contents, Guddan's Credit card and her hotel reservation tickets!

"Did that idiot leave without her tickets! Akshat cursed aloud and started tapping his forefinger against his head. "No..No...maybe she had online copy, I should call her!

With that concluded, he dialled Guddan and waited...and waited...until Jis upbhokta se sampark karne ka aap prayaas kar rahe hain, vo aapke sampark ksetra se bahar hai'.

Frustrated, he tried over, again and again...but to no avail! That girl!! He gritted annoyed and picking up the car keys, rushed out of the room. On the other side, Guddan was enjoying the view out of the car window, while her phone continued to vibrate.

"Phone uthana nhi toh kharida hi kyu!! Akshat hissed, exasperated at yet another failed attempt, and accelerated his car.

{Flashback

"Ye wala mast hai na!! Guddan called out, while admiring the phone in her hands.

Akshat turned around, still immersed in his phone call and ignoring her, turned away.

Guddan's eyes widened at this insult and she called out to the salesman, " Pack this one

"Itna bill kese ho sakta hai, 67000 for a few suits...this is ridiculous! Akshat fought with the manager.

"Umm...no sir, the suits are worth 15,655..., Manager explained, trying to escape AJ's assault.

"Toh baaki pese, kya GST hai!? Akshat remarked, brimming with sarcasm.

"umm..no sir, actually your wife brought a phone worth 50,000.. Manager replied.

"What!!!? Akshat exclaimed, shocked and resisted the urge to hang the woman in question.

"Kahan thi tum!? Tumhari fizool kharchi ke liye main pese nhi kamata! 50,000 ka bhi koi phone leta hai! And you didn't even ask!!? He shouted.

"Chillaiye mat, mujhe sunai deta hai...or rahi baat puchne ki- I asked you but you ignored me, Royally! Guddan shrugged fiddling with her new phone.

Akshat gulped hard, trying to control the raging volcano dying to erupt. "Tumhe andekha karne ka badla lene ke liye, you wasted my hard earned money! He asked, feeling ridiculous.

"Apne aap ko itni importance mat do uncle! Mera phone paani mein gir gaya tha..or agar aapka dil itna hi dukh raha hai toh feel free to return it! Guddan replied, absolutely cool as ice.

As another idea entered his mind, he quickly dialled the driver. And as soon as he picked up, Akshat let out his words faster than speed of light. "Give it to Guddan!!

"Sir, but madam entered the airport! The driver remarked and the next thing he heard was a shit' before the line got cut.

"Main kyu uss pagal ladki ke peeche pagal ho raha hu, use nhi padi hai toh mujhe kya padi hai! He tried to convince himself to turn back, but failed. He was doing this for his maa, just like she did it for her dadi'.

As soon as the car stopped, Akshat rushed out of the car taking long strides and approached the door when the guard stopped him.

"Your ticket? The guard enquired.

"Its urgent, please let me go! Akshat tried to negotiate but failed.

"No, means no... The guard forced Akshat to back off.

"Ab kya karun?! He pondered hard when the flashes of morning occurred, when his mother was trying to force them to go for a holiday.

"Meri ticket bhi toh hai! With that idea, he made a few quick calls and within 3 minutes, a man showed up with his ticket.

Akshat raced through the corridor, trying to locate Guddan, when her flight was announced. Running through the corridors, shouting her name at the top of his lungs, he finally boarded the bus (the one that takes passengers to plane)

"Guddan!! He shouted on locating her curly head.

Guddan's ears perked up on hearing the familiar, not so enchanting voice. As she turned around, she got the shock of her life and stood up from her seat."Aap!!? Yaha?? She asked, shocked.

"Kitna call kiya tumhe and yo... Akshat started to step forward when the bus suddenly stopped, throwing him forward. Guddan saw him losing balance and didn't know what to do. She could get flattened if she failed to catch him and even if she will succeed in helping him, he will still be akdu as ever.

Flashback

"Guddan

"Ji Dadi, Guddan turned around.

"Mujhe pata hai ki tumhe lalla pasand nhi kyuki uska bartaav berukha hai...par vo bas mere Akshat ka dard or akelapan hai...kya tum meri ek baat manogi? Dadi asked.

"Kahiye na dadi.. Guddan agreed and Dadi took her palm and kept it on her head.

"You always try and never give up, right?! Dadi asked, to which Guddan nodded.

"Toh phir tujhe meri kasam, mere lalla ko...nhi apne Pati' ka saath deni ki har mumkin koshish karna, bhale hi vo tumhe dur dhakele par tum fir lautkar aaogi apne pati ke paas, haar nhi manogi...

Akshat could have got his nose flattened, when to his surprise Guddan stepped out of her seat and caught him. Finally, he was able to grip the handle while with other palm, he held onto Guddan and saved himself from her oncoming assault that would have been brutally triggered, had he fallen over her and had she been squished under him.

"Aap theek hain... Guddan asked unsure. She didn't want to but couldn't help it. She didn't want to hurt Dadi's faith in her. That's what she was trying to tell herself but her conscious screamed one thing, his nasty behaviour could never overweigh his goodwill.

Surprise was written over his face as he moved away from her. He had totally expected her to stand by and watch because uski umeedon ka bojh koi uthana nhi chahta tha. Expectations that always shattered...

"Aise kya ghoor rahe ho! Agar aapko chot lagti toh Dadi kitna upset hoti! Guddan explained.

Akshat shook his head, feeling foolish. Guddan uski umeedon ka nhi, uski maa ke uss par vishwas ka karz chukka rahi thi.

"You are a highly irresponsible and immature person. You actually forgot your tickets and credit card back at home! Akshat scolded her.

"Ek toh thank you nhi bola, upar se bin baat ka gussa! Guddan exclaimed astonished and continued, " Mere paas online tickets hain and my card too is with me! Kya aap yahi sunane aaye the!! Agar aapka ho gaya ho toh...alvidaaa! Guddan waved her palms at him, concentrating her best not to let her lips turn upside down in a nasty frown. Isse toh badhiya hota ki muh ke bal girkar inke saare daant toot jaate!😡

Finally the bus stopped and passengers started boarding the plane. Guddan started ascending the stairs too, followed by Akshat.

"Aap kahan aa rahe hai!! She asked, highly suspicious.

"Isse pehle ki tum koi galatfehmi paalo, let me make it clear- I can't go back from here, this can be termed as a breach of airport regulations and even though I'd much prefer company of police personnel to yours, I don't want to waste my time and money on bail!, Akshat explained, coolly and stepped past her.

"Har line mein taana marna zaroori hai kya! Guddan called out after him, wanting to knock his teeth in, a wishful thinking!

As they plopped in their seats, Akshat took out his phone and called home. Once done, he closed his eyes and turned his face to the other side, while Guddan did the same.
