Televisionpoint.com Correspondent A complaint was filed in the metropolitan magistrate's court on Monday against Star One TV channel, and the popular laughter show, the 'Great Indian Laughter Challenge Dwitya' for hurting the sentiments of a particular caste. Complaints were filed against show director, Pankaj, jury Shekhar Suman and Navjot Singh Sidhu, film star Sunil Shetty and Pakistani contestants Ali Hasan and Irfan Malik, by Jitendra Solanki, a resident of Gomtipur of Uttar Pradesh. Solanki's advocate Piyush Jadugar said that in an episode of the 'Great Indian Laughter Challenge' telecast on June 16, contestants had hurt the sentiments of women and the backward classes by commenting against scheduled caste (SC) community members. Jadugar said, "The two had also used some derogatory remarks about the SC community members as also some remarks against women." He said that a complaint was lodged against the channel, the jury and the contestant under various section of the Atrocities Act and under section 294 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and others of the IPC. There is a old saying that, "What is popular is not always right and What is right is not always popular!", the same also applies in this case. Humour shows are popular, it was brought home by the fact that the semi-final round of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge saw ratings zoom to 6.04, one of the highest for the show and one that left traditional fare like soaps far behind. Zee TV's Johnny Aala Re opened to a rating of 5, impressive for the first day of any new show. |
