Wow I was just reading on kusum dola ( don’t judge me 🥱) and found something interesting. The names there are so revealing just like here.

Ranajay - Wins every war. Victorious. It is not outside battles. He fights so many internal conflicts and wins in the end.

Baadshah - he is the emperor. He has everything in platter. Good family, beautiful wife and dutiful brother who wins things for him. But is he happy?

Roopkotha - it is interesting to know that this means fairy tale in Bengali!! 😳. Wow it explains her delusions and her dreams. She is is in fairy land totally weaving stories in her mind!

Emon - means truthful and starry. Both defines her. She is a star that guides rono 👍 And ofcourse truthful

coming to ghum we discussed this already but putting it here for completion.

Virat - all encompassing. Huge. Here Virat’s name signifies compassion. So he comes across more likable than rono. Ranajay name is more duty bounded. Virat’s name is both brave and compassionate!!

Samrat - emperor. Again limited. And can be compared to baadshah. He has everything won for him but does he feel like a king? No :( he died unhappy like most kings

patralekha: literally it means written on paper. Imagination. Fiction. So yeah like roopkotha she is not real. She is in her own dreamland. Away from reality.

Sai - pure and white. Oneness. No explanation needed.

I am amazed at these names again. Both versions show these names sticking with these characters

Wow. Thank you so much for sharing. I liked badshah's name in kd. Matched well with his character.

I also like roopkotha and Patralekha (names). They're kind of rare, long, unique and vintage kinda names.

That's how ghum is different and i feel very connected to it.

Keeping aside the crimes and illogical stuff.

Ghum serves more depth in writing and is presented in a more realistic way.

Thoughtful of names and small things.

Also samrat like king takes care of his land and his people. Virat like God takes care of anyone 🤣. Only the wife of the God suffers. Never available to her!

Virat and his God complex 😒

Very beautiful interpretation ❤️

Though the way you broke down Virat's name doesn't go with his character..

He doesn't have god complex like I used to think..

He is 😖😖😖

Though if I'm not wrong virat is another name of Shiv.. And Sai is another name of durga.. Please correct me because I'm not Hindu so I don't have much knowledge about these..

By the way as per history shivaji was a Marathi king and his wife's name was Sai bai whom he adored the most because of her kindness...he took his last breath taking her name

I think virat is an adjective. Like in virat swaroop? Anything huge, all encompassing is virat in my opinion. It could be shiv or Vishnu. But the virat I heard in scriptures came across as compassion more than it’s physical natural of being huge!

sai for me is pure. we call sai baba right? Even in andhra we have puttaparthi sai baba. He is given the title sai because he is pure and childlike. Even whiteness is called sai. Simple, plain, white, saintly.

I was more struck with Bengali names. Ranajay and emon are deeper and gel with the story. Rono is fighting real battles. Not baadshah. Kings don’t fight. It is senapati, warrior who fights for his people staking his own. Ranajay fits there.

Even I think virat is like that but to me his compassionate side comes out more. There is a dialogue msin said he says in the end…. That he would have protected and helped a man in the place of sruthi or rk. That defines rono/virat for me! Even before msin said this to me, when I saw KD that’s what I got from rono’s character.

it is hard to live with these kind of people. They are! Especially in a marriage where the spouse coompetes for their attention and love. They feel neglected. And question their importance. That’s what is shown here. And especially when the person doesn’t communicate it becomes even more difficult.

Here in ghum they make virat too emotional and volatile that contradicts his compassionate side! I can blame it on bad writing. But in KD rono comes across duty bounded and ruthless in the pursuit of what he thinks is right. Bordering sometimes on abuse and neglect on his young wife!! You don’t invest in him a lot due to his hard exterior. With virat we tend to like him and when he does these insensitive things we get confused. 😬😕. That’s the difference. Otherwise in my opinion both rono and virat are good and kind men.
