Sai - Yeh holi humari aakhri holi tabhi hogi agar main iss duniya se chali jaun.

Lekin agar main agle saal tak ji gayi toh agli holi mein bhi hum dono saath hi honge iss baat ki main guarantee deti hoon.

Virat - Khuli aankhon se sapne nahi dekhne chahiye.

I saw this episode as a continuation of the above (post- holi) conversation.

Never expected, but the makers did surprise me with the connectivity they showed up in Sai's characterisation.

As claimed prior, Shruthi track and V's whitewashing was done to emphasize the fact that "men too have feelings".

" What about Virat's hurt?" is a constant I'm hearing since Diwali.

Agreed.

Men too have feelings.

Men do get hurt.

Men express their hurt way differently than women do.

In their pursuit of putting up the point of "Virat's hurt", the makers kept Sai's perspective in the backdrop. I won't say they completely dropped it off, but the family dynamics killed it. There was a great scope in developing this angle and makers failed at it miserably.

Coming back to what I feel about the brief morbid fascination with death and why it served as a potent wake-up call to Virat.

My question is - Is this the real wake-up call?

"Death" - a word that has been closely associated with Sai since her birth. I could never imagine anyone else to shed a light on this except Sai.

Samrat - Tumhari umr bhale hi kam ho Sai lekin samajhdaari aur zindagi ka tajurba tumhari baaton se saaf jhalakti hai.

Virat (monologue) - Sai bhale hi umr mein mujhse choti hai lekin kabhi kabhi apne bachpane mein bahot badi baatein bol jaati hai.

Virat - Kabhi kabhi na tum itni samajhdari se jawaab deti ho ki aisa lagta hai ki tum tum nahi ho tumhari koi judwa behen hai.

Sai has seen what others haven't.

Death - a truth that has stayed with her since her birth and continues to haunt this orphan whenever she finds herself close to someone.

Keeping aside the fact that she's a soon-to-be doctor, she was the only one who didn't panic despite knowing that Rajeev was in a critical condition and they had little time before ambulance showed up.

Her "presence of mind" doesn't come only from her education. It comes from within - her unshakable real self that has been masked by constant chatter, laughter, and carefree nature.

The "self" that we got a slight glimpse after holika dahan when she spoke to her Aaba's photo. It was a significant detail. This particular scene made so much sense after holika dahan.

Fire preserves the pure and kills the impure. Anything that doesn't serve the greater good has to burn.

Sai's acceptance of the fact that she wasn't really brave. She hides her pain behind her smile. The truth is she is alone and might always be. The entire monologue was heartbreaking! This was the first time, she peeled the layer that enveloped her insecurity. It didn't come out as anger or tears or sorrow, it was a straight talk. It is what it is. I'm scared, I'm alone, what next?

I mentioned a few days back about "subconscious" which @moor also hinted at in one of her posts (thank you so much ☺)

This monologue was probably Sai's direct acknowledgment of her feelings, thoughts, and insecurities. What took place in between her and Aaba is now showing up, and in front of whom? Virat!

In other post, I had elaborated quite a few things on the river philosophy. Sai and her Aaba's part is so crucial.

"You can touch the river only once".

The river, waves and ocean philosophy is quite popular!

Another interpretation of this philosophy and Sai's dialogue -

You can touch the river only once.

The water is not the same.

The moment is gone.

You died a little in that particular moment.

You are approaching death every moment of your life.

You may hold up to a certain philosophy your entire life. That might stem from your own understanding or social conditioning.

When your life philosophy is challenged by the bitter pill of death - how do you respond?

Fear grips your mind and you recoil - you hold your life even more closer to your heart.

Sai - Nahi Rajeev ji ab iss dimag mein kuch nahi pak raha hai. Mujhe acche se samajh mein aa chuka hai ki ret ko mutthi mein kitna bhi kas ke pakadne ki koshish karo, vo aapke haathon se fisal hi jaati hai.

The entire "Virat manao" track didn't simply come from the place of love. It was interlaced with fear. What if Virat never agrees? What if Sai is left alone all her life? What if he never reciprocates her love? What if he never accepts her love for him?

As Virat extinguished the lamp, Sai understood one thing clearly - her efforts can never the overcome the truth.

What's the truth here?

Light is often related to life.

An extinguished lamp is an indication of bad omen - even death.

The truth - Virat seeks transfer to other place.

The truth - He's unwilling to give her another chance.

The truth - He has given up completely.

The truth - He's unwilling to understand anything.

Later that day, when Sai talks about sand, Virat begins to think if she has really given up.

Sand is another analogy to life and time.

It slips out no matter. Hold it tight or loose, some sand particles always slip out.

I more or less imagined a sand glass with this dialogue. Timer is set. Is it too late?

Switching to Virat's river philosophy -

" A river never gives up. No matter what."

While this speaks a great deal of courage and "never give up" attitude, every philosophy ceases in the face of death.

Rajiv- Shivani's journey has been a great example of this.

Every couple can't be a Devkit. For years, they lived away from each other but they came back together when life gave them a chance.

Life now gives a second chance to Rajiv and Shivani. First the fire, now this. Rajiv's life has been in constant peril since their patch up. Shivani breaks down from time to time almost screaming - Life is giving a second chance, but do we have any life left?

Sai - "Honsle ki naav par baith kar hi samandar ke kinaare tak pahucha ja sakta hai".

I spoke briefly about ocean too in the previous post.

Adding some of it here.

This is poetic, metaphorical and philosophical kindly don't make it intellectual.

Once a river reaches her destination, she loses her identity. As in, she becomes a part of that ocean. She gets identified as the ocean. Does she complain? No. Why? That's her niyati - her destiny, her ultimate truth.

I had said - here ocean or destination is Virat.

One of the qualities of Sai is to never give up.

Virat is left flabbergasted as she is not trying to save their relationship anymore.

The truth is - Sai has exhausted all her options. She has made her part of journey. Her life philosophy has faced the reality - the death of her hope. It is clear, the ocean is still not ready to accept her.

Sai's journey till here was full of fear, worry, and love. She took in what came for her. Never retaliated. Her tolerance and patience in facing Virat's anger has only made her strong enough to accept the "death of her hope".

On the other end, Virat is still in the initial phase of his journey - the realization that this may really be it. Prior, Sai left him or claimed to leave him on numerous occasions. This time her leaving him is a matter at next level.

Though he is late to acknowledge, Virat has registered Sai's efforts. What he now fails to acknowledge is that his refusal and bitterness is pushing away Sai from putting any efforts. I'll cover this in the next post. But who can be a better person than Sunny to explain him this?

As I stated before in numerous other replies, a brief separation is necessary for Virat to really get back to his senses. Is the death conversation really a wake-up call? Not really. I would term it as an initiation to something - Virat's journey to his destination.

Few things that stood out in the conversation -

Reconcile with your family.

I'm an orphan.

Life is too short to stay angry with someone.

The frequent reference to the word "family" only emphasizes the fact that Sai and Virat are the only family to each other.

Even if Virat is back with his family, he will miss out something important. And only Sai gives him that feeling.

Do I see the death conversation as a premonition for something?

I want to. But going by the way makers have handled hospital tracks till now, I prefer to limit my expectations.

I see this more of a character shift that I was waiting for. Sai finally lets go of her chirpy self ( I hope they don't bring it back again. Will be a great loss after this profound dialogue on death).

Virat is witnessing altogether a different side of Sai, which probably he subconsciously knew that it existed. But he never expected it to take up a centre stage. And now that it has, with this conversation Sai has given him a reality check.

It is time that Virat peels off his layers of insecurity and fear. He has to take up few steps in this journey to reach his ocean, his destination. And this quest has to come from within.

The previous journey where he wanted to celebrate their anniversary, also took place after Aaba's death anniversary. There, he took decisions on the basis of what Sunny advised him, without taking much into consideration what Sai felt. The dynamics have to change now. I've emphasized the need for role reversal for quite some time. It'll be great if it plays out that way. To reach his Sai - he has to start somewhere.

Like Sai's fear has died in the face of Virat's decision.

Virat's fear has to die in the face of separation.

I'll cover Virat's side in the next post. The last three episodes have been quite something!

Trying to keep it as much of Sairat as I can. Other characters are disappointing. But this rant is for another thread. 😂

Edit : For the ones who might be interested, Osho has some great insights on the philosophy of river, waves, death and life. Do read his work or listen to his discourse.

Beautiful analysis...❤️

Sadly much of this is lost in the pace they have set up.

I have increasingly felt now that the character Sai has A separate writing team or probably they are much clear about what she is .. not so much for V.

Hence, inspite of all the goodness (?) that his character has... His flaws are the only ones highlighted. NB is not a bad actor but even he cannot keep me connected and feel for V like the way i do for Sai.

Whatever be the reason, TRP drop or anything for this mad rush.. i want this introspection on his part to happen soon... Even if it is post remarriage... Otherwise there's no point 👎🏼

P.S. Diya analogy is my fav too.

Absolutely beautiful analysis!

This is the reason I am stuck to the show. The basic premise is beautiful. But yes, they need to work on Virat too. I hope they do.

Ayesha always says Sai will evolve through the years. Again hopefully, that is going to happen and it is not limited to just this track.

Thanks for this👍🏼

Wow! So beautiful!❤️

Your perspective is amazing...you have the ability to look at the bigger picture..Ghum is like a garbage dump which has pearls strewn around...the discerning eye can connect the dots and create a pearl necklace out of it...👏

Ghum has so much potential...if only thieir writing was tighter & more sensitive..

It is the story of contrasting personalities...opposites in every sense...temperament, upbringing, experience...Problem is the lack of investment in Virat's characterization..
