Challenge Accepted- An OS
“Okay, bye Sanjana,” she said, greeting her neighbor whom she had met in the corridor, while unlocking her home and entering it with an exhausted, yet contented smile on her face.
Dr. Sai Kamal Joshi had yet another hectic day at work, with the number of surgeries a tad more than the previous day.
Quickly, Sai kept her bag on the makeshift table and collapsed on the sofa, breathing deeply. Yet another day at work, which Sai treated as a precious burden, had passed amidst tears, some of glee and others of anguish. Sai lazily sat on the sofa, trying to obliterate at least some of the exhaustion she felt before proceeding with her daily routine.
It was only then that she realized that today was no other ordinary day.
“Oh damn, Sai. How could you forget such an important day, stupid! He would have teased you to death for being so forgetful after planning for the event yourself. Now run.” With that, she got up, grabbed her bag, and disappeared into her room in a jiffy.
25 minutes later, she came back, dressed in shorts and a comfortable night tee and in a very sprightly mood, all set to make the day completely hers by making that over-confident and imbecile man, taste some bitter defeat. She looked at her phone clock, which read 9:07 pm.
“Hmm, lots of time for him to come over. I can comfortably have my dinner and get the set-up ready,” she thought, and proceeded to make some pasta for herself.
After having made dinner and complete some kitchen chores, she sat on her dining chair, with her upper body on one chair and her legs on another. She opened her phone to scroll through the messages quickly while her pasta plate lay on the table, waiting to be devoured. As soon as she turned on her mobile data, the pinging of a large number of notifications, startled her.
Rishi- 5 new messages.
Hi beautiful, don’t forget that we are meeting tomorrow.
Finally, Sai, finally. After a whole, long 16 days, 7 hours and 49 minutes, I will get to see you on a date. Yipeeee!
I can’t wait anymore. I wanna be with you.
God, I hate my boss for not letting me leave today. I would have loved being there while you 2 best friends battled it out with each other☹
Anyways, I know you will win. Give my love to today’s would be looser and yes, don’t be too beautiful tomorrow. My heart is already with you, don’t make it go sick. *winks**winks* See you tomorrow darling! Love you!
Sai read the messages and then re-read them one more time, the blush and the grin, never leaving her face for even once. This crazy boyfriend of hers never missed a chance to make her feel special. She couldn’t wait to meet him too. He had hopelessly trapped her in his snare of love.
Soon, she started day-dreaming about Rishi and the time they would be spending together the next day. Coming back to reality with the realization that she had more important things in hand, she quickly typed an adorable, little message, put her phone away and started eating her lip-smacking meal.
She got the set-up ready, cleaned up her house a bit and waited for her best man to grace her with his presence.
The clock struck 10 and as if on cue, the doorbell rang and Sai went to open the door, putting on a confident demeanor.
Surely, Dr. Kunal Mahajan stood at the door with a sly grin on his face. He was dressed in a black hoodie and ripped jeans with harry-potter shaped spectacles fitting perfectly on his handsome face and gorgeous eyes. Every feature of his body screamed authority, well displaying that the owner was accustomed to be heard and followed.
“Hello, Dr. Joshi,” he spoke, his rich baritone filling the room. He entered the house while Sai closed the door behind. Turning, she slowly walked to him while he looked on.
“So, we do have the set-up ready, don’t we?” he questioned.
“Yes, we do Dr. Mahajan. But well, you know that you are going to play a loosing game, don’t you? I mean, c’mon, you can’t be a fool to think that you have a chance against me. The risk involved is huge and I am sure you don’t want to take a chance. Back out with dignity and I promise to do something about the reward.” Sai said, wanting to give the man a last chance.
With a big smirk on his face, Kunal said, “Kunal Mahajan can loose but not accept defeat. Actually, I am going to be the winner today. It’s my day, Sai. It’s you who will be tasting a really bad defeat.”
“Ok then, you seem to be determined to get thrashed. So yeah, may the best man win.”
Smiling his best crooked smile, Kunal said, “Why only man? May the best person win.”
-------------------------
Everything went silent and the only thing audible was the tickling of the wall clock. Kunal felt as if someone had thrown him in an ocean of cold water. His face screamed terror and his hands and body were shaking convulsively.
“This hasn’t happened!! How could it? How can I loose! Shit, no. NOOOOOOO! I have lost, I have los…….”
“YAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!” Sai celebrated or rather yelled, her high-pitched shriek damaging his earbuds.
“Hurray! Hurray! I have won. You lost Kunu, you lost. Yipeee, Dr. Sai won yet again.”
Sai celebrated, danced and yelled while Kunal sat with a grumpy face, still recovering from the shock of loosing to Sai at the latest version Play station released some days back.
“A video game Kunal, just a damned video-game it was! You could have done better. Now, you are a looser who has lost the golden rewar….”
Kunal was once again pulled out of his reverie when an ecstatic Sai, once again started dancing and screaming, now climbing on the sofa. And there began the Sai special-teasing session.
“It’s my day Sai, I will win. You are going to face some real bad defeat, who spewed all this crap? Huhh, you are now a looser, looser. Hahahahahaha!” Sai said while dancing on the sofa.
“Miss. Monkey, kindly get down now. At least care for this beautiful sofa-set I selected for you. Get down, koi teer nahin maare hain tune jeet ke,” a super-pissed Kunal exclaimed. At that moment, he wanted nothing more than to get her down and pull her hair.
“Oh, someone is all cranky about me winning. Kya Kunal, you always loose, get exasperated and then play again, only to lose again. C’mon, if you really want to play, at least polish your gaming skills. Even I am tired of defeating you again and again. Pull up your socks, darling. I can tutor you if you want!”
Sai absolutely loved to tease him after he lost, after all, he made this adorable irritated and grumpy face which she loved with her whole heart.
“Just shut the…..”Kunal started only to get cut off by Sai, once again.
“Oh, by the way, I need to call Pranjal. Let me give her the news of me winning, she can come over with my reward then. We will tease you together.” Sai stuck out her tongue at Kunal, jumped down the sofa, grabbed her phone and climbed on the sofa again.
Kunal, quite irritably, saw as Sai waited, quite impatiently after dialling.
Soon, the person on the other side seemed to have received the call. Sai started speaking, her voice, never turning even a tad less enthusiastic.
“Pranjal! Guess what???!”
After a little pause, “Yes, I won yet again. Sai Joshi, the champion of play station, hip hip hurray!”
Pranjal spoke, excitedly it seemed, for Sai had a smile so huge that it might be hurting her cheeks.
“Yes, Pranjal, thank you so much. Actually, your husband is such a looser that it was bound to happen. Now c’mon, to my house with your worth-dying for chocolate ice-cream. I really want to burn this man in every way possible.”
After quick goodbyes, Sai hung up on the call and smirked at Kunal. He couldn’t even eat his own wife’s hand-made chocolate ice-cream.
“Ok now, get down fast. Let’s put this video game at its place. And stop grinning please. Pranjal just makes this one thing better than me. Otherwise, I am the master chef here. I don’t need anyone else’s food,” Kunal said, grumping exactly like a schoolkid whose parents pampered the other siblings more.
“Aww,” Sai said while jumping down. She pulled his cheeks tightly and to this ruthless action of hers, Kunal whined in pain. Sai laughed at him.
Quickly, they cleaned up the stuff and sat on the sofa, waiting for Pranjal to come with her chocolate ice-cream.
Kunal could feel that Sai was looking, no laughing at him. He didn’t look at her though. But then, not being able to take it anymore, he looked at her with raised eyebrows. That was it, Sai started laughing, her tinkling voice filling the room. Even Kunal started laughing ferociously with one hand on his stomach. They kept laughing for a long time and this moment ended with Sai’s head on Kunal’s shoulder.
After catching his breath, Kunal spoke, “Why couldn’t Rishi come today?”
At Rishi’s mention, he didn’t miss the glint that passed through Sai’s eyes and the adorable blush her cheeks adorned.
“Well, his boss assigned him some urgent work. We are catching up tomorrow though,” Sai said excitedly.
“That’s amazing,” he paused and then spoke with a soft voice, “I am so happy that you could find an amazing partner like Rishi. He loves you like crazy and you guys look so happy with each other. Even Pranjal and I were discussing the same the other day. We both are really happy for you Sai. He is the type of guy you always deserved.”
Sai looked at him with a small smile and said, “Yes, I love Rishi a lot. It’s as if I love him a tad more every day. I never want to lose him. He has become an integral and inseparable part of my life.”
Kunal smiled hearing that and was about to say something when Sai spoke again. “I want to tell you 2 things though.” On seeing Kunal get perplexed, she continued.
“My love for Rishi is to unimaginable extents, so much so that even my rational mind hasn’t processed it completely. But no one, and I mean no one can take the position you have in my life. You were, are and will always be my soulmate, the one who stood for me when I was weak, the one who held my hand when I had no one, the one who taught me to give myself a second chance, the one who motivates me to be a better person every day. The one who truly taught me to love, laugh and live.”
Kunal felt his eyes going moist at that. He looked at her with pure love in his eyes. And there began their eye-conversations!
Now, the walls wanted to strangle both their throats. Walls definitely had ears and they loved listening to these two’s stupid conversations and spicy gossips. Whenever they started with this talkless-talks rubbish of theirs, the walls felt like banging their heads against the, ummm, walls? The clock was even more irritated, though. These two always wasted the precious thing called time by just staring at each other and doing nothing. Relieving the clock on the point that its baby wasn’t being misused, Kunal spoke.
“What was the second thing you wanted to tell me?”
“Oh right, the second thing…” Just then, the doorbell rang and Sai literally jumped in childlike excitement. She went to fetch her dear friend with her dear chocolate ice-cream while Kunal rolled his eyes without even trying to get out of his place.
Just as Sai was about to open the door, she turned back and with a wicked grin on her face, she said, “The second thing is that after calculating, I have realized that out of the 33 games we have played against each other, you have lost 29 of them and won only 4. What high standards of losing those are!”

Hiiiii! Long time, I know😆 I swear I had no intention of writing again but the comment Moor278 left on my story had me nostalgic. I wanted to write something and I did!
I know some might think that 2 grown up adults behaving this way doesn't make any sense but the thing is that Sai always had this childish side to her. When the situations demanded, she can be really mature but otherwise, she had childlike innocence which got killed after, we know what! That's why I wrote this light-hearted piece to show that with the right people, she can be who she truly is😳
I hope y'all liked the OS. Comment and tell me, okay. Chalo bye. And also, I miss you guys❤️
